Review: The website promised a free estimate, but once the contractor showed up and took a look at my problem he wanted $98 for his estimate. I told him the website said "free estimates," but he said I didn't qualify, but couldn't explain why. He gave me an estimate for work I clearly didn't need and the bid was much higher than any other estimate for the work.Desired Settlement: Refund of $98 I paid for "free estimate."

In response to your correspondence dated August 27, 2013 regarding the above stated Complaint

I am submitting the following statement.

Mr. [redacted] contacted our office on the morning of August 27, 2013 stating his air conditioning

was not working and requested service. On arrival at Mr. [redacted]’s home, our service

technician proceeded to complete his diagnostic of the air conditioning system by checking the air

filter, finding the capacitor needing to be replaced, burnt wires needing repaired, display on the

thermostat not working properly. These findings were discussed with Mr. [redacted], who then

refused completion of the work. Our service technician then presented his diagnostic billing

charge to Mr. [redacted] who paid the invoice.

Mr. [redacted] did not request an estimate at the time of his call. He stated that his air

conditioning was not working and requested service. Had he indicated that he was looking for an

estimate, a salesman would have been referred for this call and not a service technician. Also,

Mr. [redacted] made no mention of having had other estimates for the work needed. The ‘Tree

Estimates” referred to by Mr. [redacted] are for replacement of units only.

Therefore, it is our position that Mr. [redacted] contacted Climate Systems for a service call - not

a replacement estimate.

As a business owner and a member of the local community, I take it personally when an

individual attempts to besmirch our technician and my company. Also, Mr. [redacted] should

realize that when requesting service from any and all other companies he should be clear on what

services he is requesting and inquire of any and all potential costs to him.

Response:

I did not request service as they claim. I told them that my air conditioner wasn't working and I wanted someone to take a look and let me know what was wrong and how much it would be - an estimate. I also told them I was having other companies give estimates. They should not falsely advertise free estimates if they're going to charge $98 for it.
