Coarsegold Community Center Reviews (%countItem)

I rented space for twice a year 6 years for a craft fair. Rent was always paid, insurance was always paid, facility was always clean. I usually
requested my date well in advance. Had a horrible time securing my space. I usually requested space by email or USP. Average secured
space time was 3 plus months and usually verbal-so no record in writing
December 2019 I had not entered my request for the next year as my xmas fair was very time consuming. Mean time another renter was not happy with their date. Hall manager gave them my next year's date-I was
not told until January 8, 2020. I understand 1st come 1st served, however I had been a steady renter for 6 years. Further I was a board member for a number of years was forced to resign (claiming conflict of interest) This decision will cost me half of my business (a business that
I do not profit from. Center has the best rental in the area.

Coarsegold Community Center Response • Jun 10, 2020

Dear ***, My Name is *** (pronounced ***Y), I am responding to *** complaint as a Board Member of the Coarsegold Community Center and the Facilities Manager in which I have the duties of both. I am going to address Ms.’s actual complaint as written first and then I am going to share with you some of HER ACTIONS as we tried to accommodate her with other dates for her event. Ms. following statement is true:“I rented space for twice a year 6 years for a craft fair. Rent was always paid, insurance was always paid, facility was always clean. I usually requested my date well in advance. Had a horrible time securing my space. I usually requested space by email or USP. Average secured space time was 3 plus months and usually verbal-so no record in writing December 2019 I had not entered my request for the next year as my xmas fair was very time consuming.” Our side:I have no idea what she is talking about with “Had a horrible time securing my space.” Unless she is referring to her date requested for December 12, 2020. Ms. following statement is false:“Mean time another renter was not happy with their date.” Our side:We had a group request the date of December 12, 2020 for their charity event to be held at our facility. Their request was verbal and was made on or about the 10th of December. I checked my calendar and it was available. Ms. sent a request via email on December 17th. Her request was received and a response was withheld pending the next Board Meeting to be held on January 6th 2020 and would be discussed at that time. We expected her presence since she was at that time a member of the Board to discuss the conflict of groups wanting the same date, Ms. didn’t show due to a medical condition I believe. The Board decided to keep the reservation for the Charity since it was requested first. A couple of days after the meeting I sent Ms. a response that the date had been reserved already and that it wasn’t available. Ms.’s following statement:“Hall manager gave them my next year's date-I was not told until January 8, 2020. I understand 1st come 1st served, however I had been a steady renter for 6 years.” Our side:As explained above her requested date was already taken. We understand that she may have been a steady renter for six years; I have only been here for two years. Our policy is “First come, First served”. On January 9th she proceeded to request dates for her events out to 2023, something we will not do. She also sent multiple deposits for all her dates requested, we returned them all. Ms.’s following statement is false:“Further I was a board member for a number of years was forced to resign (claiming conflict of interest)” Our side:Ms. was elected to the Board in December 2018, she was served notice of dismissal on February 3, 2020 and she was voted off the Board February 6,, 2020. We felt it was a conflict of interest to be on the Board and publicly post a derogatory remark about the group she was a member of. Our Bylaws state that we can remove anyone for cause. Ms ***’s following Desired Settlement:“Finish the Job”“Give me my date, someone is passing this issue all over this hill--want it stopped” Our side:Per our attorney, in January 2020, all Board members involved have been advised “not to discuss anything pertaining to this issue as we could end up in some sort of litigation” so basically we are not talking about her or any of her events. I have confirmed with all Board members that no one has said anything, and to be honest we had thought the issue was closed. Although we have heard from others that she in fact “bad mouthing” The Coarsegold Community Center in the community. Narrative of events:Ms *** was offered alternate dates to which she replied that she could not do those dates due to conflicts on her calendar. She then proceeded to call the Board President (for some reason she stopped all interaction with me) to try to get date reinstated. She told the Board President that she was recording the call about half way through the conversation and also threatened us with legal action. She posted on our Facebook page a negative recommendation (which she later deleted), something the Board felt was something a Board Member should not have done. We consulted with our attorney, was advised of the procedure in which to remove Ms. from the Board (which is in our bylaws). Ms. has continued to send harassing emails. February we started to revise our rental contract and policies, Ms *** had a tentative date for an event on March 14th and that it would be under the new contract format. She requested a copy on February 17th and at that time an approved copy of the contract had not been made. It would be approved at the March Board Meeting. Ms *** has requested that anything that we had posted on our Facebook page be removed, we complied. Ms. made a second request with the threat of legal action, we found out that the local newspaper had taken pictures of her event and tagged our page with her event and it showed up on our page. I have no control of what other Facebook users do with their content, we did our best to comply with her request and asked her to contact the newspaper to remove their content. Ms *** utilized our facility free of charge in December a policy was in effect at the time “that any board member may have an event held free of charge once per year”. I rented to her for free without a contract for her December event. I was later informed that the policy only applied if it were to be a private event and not for business or profit. We the Board no longer desire to do business with her and would like to part ways. We wish her no ill will nor do we hold any grudges. We feel that her toxicity towards us over the past few months does not warrant doing business with her. We tried to accommodate her and make things right. We cannot nor will we give in to her demand for “her date”.I can provide proof of all emails and comments made to Facebook by her as well as the minutes of the Board Meeting when she was nominated a member of the Board and the Board proceeding of her removal. ***Facilities ManagerBoard Member – Treasurer

Customer Response • Jun 11, 2020

I was not advised I am rejecting this response because:
1) tired of being blamed for ALL that has happened! I do not and have not been badmouthing center-if I am asked why I left I tellum, if I am asked about the Center I simply say ask them. I am the victim here and am tired of being accused of all this stuff. This narration has more faults than Calif earthquakes!2)As far as contacting president ***--it was only after hall manager wouldn't talk about the situation Spoke with ***, we spent one hour looking at different dates. We came up with 1st weekend in November -a local group has that date and has f 30 plus years-I am a small biz and cannot compete with them; other date came up Dec 5 th--I do have another commitment, discussed with my group and decided with date 30 miles apart and no3) emails that were sent were requesting future dates NOT HARRASSING and copy of rental agreement info requested was not sent (6)5) Free event for board member--I asked several times if this free event applied to me and a each time I was told yes!--later more info- if hall manager did not have his correct info was not my fault6) I will not and would want to do biz with an organization that turns on someone and wilfully and relentlessly and vigorously turns its members against a member In case you who are against don't know--"We are the same people as we were yesterday" but the ill will is definitely there--rare if make $10.00--but I really enjoyed my biz7) This action follow me where ever I go--for ruining my business-there is no forgiving-your toxicity permeates throughout everything you do8) leaving board I was threatened by way I was treated at last meeting (I left) was handed a threatening notice--I resigned and I doubt that members were allowed to read my resignation9) Posting on facebook-I posted one 6 word that said -watch rentals -treated badly-- Posing from outface book-I requested all removed they said Newspaper could not remove--evening one hour afe my equest it was gone-hall manager posted really nasty rendition of situation there were others who read it LAW OF UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCE!!
