Coastwide Construction LLC Reviews (2)

Revdex.com:I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to meSincerely, *** ***

To whom it may concern: I am the owner of Coastwide Construction and am providing the following statement and  attachments. In October of 2013 I was contacted by [redacted] regarding a leaky roof that she was experiencing. I made arrangements to look at the roof the following week and...

submit a bid. After examining the roof, I realized the existing roof was not that old and that the leaks could most likely be fixed. After contacting [redacted] and having a telephone conversation, she insisted that she wanted a new roof. After a contract was signed in October, work commenced in early November. While doing the tear off of the old root: the areas that were leaking were noticed, on the east side hip of the roof ,the south side hip, where it is claimed it is leaking into the kitchen, and the west side over the living room. The water damage that is being claimed was a small amount of water that came through the ceiling (cdx plywood) sheeting on the west side of the house, into the living room, where prior leaks had occurred in the months before, during a rain storm. While we do everything in our power, we cannot predict the weather and we do our best to keep any water from entering the residence. The area of concern was already water damaged from previous leak- ing, [redacted] showed me the leaks even before a contract was signed for the job. The ceiling panels in question are plywood, there was previous staining. At [redacted] request, I pulled down the ceiling panels and replaced the insulation in one area where the water had entered from the rain storm, I reinstalled the panels, and we sanded the small water stain and the other water stains from the previous leaking that fall when the old roof was still in place. I did it to show good faith. When the roof was complete, [redacted] met with me at the property and we went over the roof and the sanding of the panels and he was very happy with the job completion. I asked [redacted] who had done the siding work on the house, noticing it was new shingles, he explained a family friend did the shingling. I advised him that the recommended spacing for 16" cedar shingles is not to exceed 5 1/2" reveal during install and that his were near 7" spacing. That would cause leaking if not addressed . He did not seem concerned. We side anywhere from I 0 to 15 houses a year on the Oregon coast and the national cedar association is very clear what the spacing should be so leaking will not occur. The entire shingle job on the siding was sub par at best and would not meet Oregon code. I did not hear from the [redacted] the entire winter of 2013-2014. I did not hear from [redacted] until May of 2014 when she left a very nasty message on my cell phone saying she had a leak in the kitchen. I Immediately called [redacted] back and while she was very rude, I assured her that I would go to her house the next day and take a look at the roof. The next day l went to the house and started inspecting the roof, we do anywhere from 15 to 20 roofs a year, it is very rare a leak occurs. I looked the roof over for more than two hours, I could not find anything out of place on the roof itself. I then starting inspecting the siding and windows. What I found was shingles that were not backed properly, tar paper that you could see between the shingles and the trim around the window, directly above the leak in the kitchen, was in terrible shape. Please see attached pictures that I took that day of the gaps around the trim, the loose caulking and sub par siding shingle install. I called [redacted] back that day and explained what I had found, the shingles, windowsnot flashed and loose caulking were most likely the cause of the leak. I explained to her that I had nothing to do with any of it on the original contract. She asked me what it would cost to fix it and I advised her that the cost would be $3,750.00 dollars to fix the shingles correctly, flash and seal the windows, the cost includes tearing down the entire south side of the siding. She said she would talk it over with [redacted] and get back to me. To this date, I have never heard back from [redacted] or [redacted]. I did drive by the house in February, and have noticed the siding has not been replaced and that somebody has attempted to do some work on the chimney, it is evident from the road that somebody has done some work in the chimney area, there is flashing wrapped up over the ridge of the roof. I have heard nothing from [redacted] or [redacted] about the problems with the Gutters, this had never been conveyed to me. These are vinyl gutters, they will only leak from the joints, in which case sealant can be applied, Coastwide Construction does not warranty vinyl gutters, in good faith, if there is a problem with something we installed, I have no issues fixing the issue free of charge. I feel that if the [redacted] actually felt this was a problem with the roof, l should have heard some form of communication from them sooner than a year later. I have been in the construction industry for 20 years, this is the first time I have ever had a complaint tiled against me. I have a A+ Revdex.com rating, the highest rated contractor on the entire Oregon coast with Angies list, and hold multiple endorsements on my Oregon State CCB license. l am a EPA certified lead based paint renovator and take my career very serious. I work extremely hard to set my company apart from others and take these accusations extremely serious. In conclusion, Coastwide Construction denies any and all claims by the [redacted]'s.
