Tom Coccomo - great experience
I am in the process of building a new house with Tom. He has been nothing but kind, attentive and accommodating. I felt it was important for me to experience Tom for myself and after an honest conversation, I was ok proceeding with the build. The realty is that this is a huge undertaking and having Tom's attention has been valuable.

Renovation
Although we are related I was reluctant to work with family, but everything worked out perfectly.

Just awful!!
We signed a contract with Tom Coccomo in May 2019 to build a new home. Our first mistake was not hiring a lawyer to go over the contract. It was very vague in a lot of places and they did not honor it. We had to buy everything only from the vendors they do business with. They tell you you get contractor pricing but the truth is that the vendors are all very expensive and the builder has deals with them where the vendor gives a percentage of your purchase back to the builder. What a racket that is! Everything was going fairly well for a while until we were getting close to closing. All of a sudden $38k in change orders appeared for work that we never approved. I had asked Tom Coccomo for change orders for months on some extras we had asked for pricing for but they went ahead and did a bunch of stuff without ever giving us any pricing. We were shocked to see a balance of $38k. Also, There was still quite a bit of work to be done before closing. We did ask for some of things to be done so even though the costs were exorbitant we offered them a fair price. Some of what they were charging us for we had no idea about. Some of what they were charging us for was already written in the contract that it was the builders responsibility and even though the contract stated that all changes had to be put in writing and signed by both parties and we never received any of it in writing, Coccomo would not accept our offer and basically stopped working in the house. There were also mistakes made that were never corrected i.e. Tom ordered and installed all the wrong windows in the house. The contract states what windows were supposed to be installed. He said he would order and install the correct ones and that never happened. There was also a mistake made on the soffit that they wanted us to pay for to correct. Their contract has a payment schedule so by the time you close you have a lot of money invested already and they use that against u to negate their own contract. We had to hire an attny but my partner is 83 yrs old and did not want to wait years for litigation so we wound up closing. They required that we close on this brand new $550k home in “as is” condition so the house is not finished. No locks in the doors, no front walkway, wrong windows, floor a mess, etc, etc, etc. They stole all the extra materials that we paid for and they were supposed to leave (tile, paint, crown molding, etc.) they are VERY unprofessional, dishonest and Tom Coccomo is very disrespectful. We will finish the home and the work will be better quality as their work is sub-standard. They DO NOT honor their work or their word and they should not be trusted. They are a TERRIBLE contractor and they take great advantage of people! I had to give them one star because I had to get the review in but I give them a negative star rating.

The above statement is factually inaccurate and intellectually dishonest. The reality was you walked away from our signed agreement because you could not sell your existing house for enough money to pay your bank off (essentially you were under water). Your contract states all deposits are non rufundable we spent tens of thousands of dollars on the house Construction process. Your were fortunate we did not sue for specific performance. Please contact the realtor who handled the transaction for the truth.

Review: We signed a contract on October 7, 2015 for a house to be built by Coccomo Brothers in Middletown, CT on [redacted]. The property was listed by [redacted] in Middletown Ct. We gave Tom Coccomo a bank check in the amount of $ 5,000.00. The contract said we had to have a commitment letter by October 31, 2015 by our Bank. The Bank said no letter could be issued in that short amount time. I informed Leslie B[redacted] Tom's real estate agent [redacted] in MIddletown, CT of this matter. She was to amend the Contract and we were to resign it. The contract was never amended or signed by us. The Bank and we also wanted a copy of the final Blue print. The Bank and we never got the final contract to this date. I received a call from Tom on November 15, 2015 and gave him the second $ 5,000.00 check on November 17, 2015. He was to take the check to City Hall and get the permit that day or the next. Tom said once he paid the money he would have the building permit. I tried calling Tom numerous times for a week on an update of the permit with no respond. I begin to text Tom on December 7, 2015. he responded. December 7, 2015 I just back from visting in laws I will call you tomorrow. We talked on December 8th or 9th 2015. He explained the concerns from the Building Official. Twelve of the Thirteen concerns were resolved he stated. He was waiting on the Insulation person to provide him with some information. Once I have that information it's a go. The Building Official told me that Tom has not addressed any of the Thirteen concerns on December 17, 2015 on the document he gave me a copy of. The document the building official gave me is dated November 17, 2015. We want our deposit of $ 10,000.00 returned to us.

[redacted]Desired Settlement: The return of our $ 10,000.00 deposit.
