Review: had well pump go bad on 06/10/2013. cochranville plumbing quoted price of $1100.00 to replace 1/2 hp gould submersible well pump and 1/2 hp electrical control box. the well pump was replaced, the control box was not. they just replaced cover which just snaps on, on my old box. complained about this I was told by [redacted] that they don't put on whole box. If this is situation why do you get charged for box. I was told if I wanted them to install box I would have to pay at least $90.00 or more. on repair bill it says 1 1/2 hp goulds pump, 1 1/2 hp control box. it also lists price as installed as quoted $1100.00. the capacitor on the control box can be bought separate for a much lower price than the box they stiff you to buy.Desired Settlement: since bill says installed as quoted and lists the 1/2 hp pump and 1/2 hp control box, not just panel for $1100.00 want control box installed.

RE: RESPONSE TO COMPLAINT ([redacted]) ID [redacted] TO Revdex.com
Dear [redacted]:
My name is [redacted], owner of Cochranville Plumbing & Heating, Inc.. We have been in business since 1979. We are licensed, insured, and bonded in Delaware & Pennsylvania, and do care when a customer complains especially when it’s a misunderstanding.
In response to complaint: The short of it— The Control Box Was Replaced. The back flatpiece of metal, which does nothing and was not rusted, was Not replaced, due to unsafe wiring situation to be explained. This was also explained to customer.
My mechanic, [redacted], was sent to above customers job on a no water call diagnosis. He quoted a price of $1100 to pull pump, replace w/control box which customer complained his brother could do job but was away in mountains and tried to negotiate lower price but we couldn’t. Customer finally agreed to cost of $1100. when we were ready to walk away.
Mechanic pulled the pump, replaced with new 1/2 hp Goulds well pump and went inside to replace control box, which consists of two parts. The first part consists of the circuit board (capacitor, overload protector). The second part, the back, is nothing more than an empty shell that the top pushes into five contacts. But, when mechanic took top off to replace the inside of back cover, he saw someone had tapped in on 220 volt line a 110 volt line for customers conditioner. Our mechanic, [redacted], told customer this was Not safe! He also told **. [redacted], customer, that we do not replace the back unless it was rusty. But because someone had also added an illegal connection, we definitely couldn’t and wouldn’t touch due to possible legal implications.
After completion of job, we submitted bill of $1100, which we received a check for $650 and told we would have to wait on balance which **. [redacted] paid three weeks later. Still insisting we didn’t replace the Control Box which was just explained. Also, accusing of stiffing wanted to have money ‘knocked off' the bill but we didn’t as we did replace the controls.
I realize it’s a hardship when you have to pay unexpectedly for emergencies such as No Water which we hear frequently in the plumbing trade. But, materials aren’t cheap; gas isn’t cheap, insurance for vehicles, employees, etc.. .and we stand behind what we sell. Nobody can beat the cost of a brother or family member to do the work for you. But, realize we have insurance if your house was to burn down because of a fault of ours or a flood which we have to pay for to protect the homeowner and us. If anyone, other than a licensed, insured contractor does work for you, your not protected.
We quoted $1100 to replace pump and control box which was done, as explained. And, it is the best price we could do.
I apologize **. [redacted] is upset with our price
Sincerely,
[redacted], owner

I am rejecting this response because:There was no mention of box being illegally connected until I mentioned to them that they did not install box and I wanted box replaced or an allowance for box. That was on 06-25-13 when I left messages to call me. I never received any calls back, so I faxed them memo telling them I would pay balance of bill when this issue was addressed. The next day I was out shopping since my wife is handicapped, she received call from [redacted] saying he wanted balance of $450.00. She said that I would pay when box is replaced or bill readjusted since body of box never installed. He made a remark that when people lose their water they just pay whatever it is and we are picking at strings. She said I will call when I get home, this time he gave us a cell phone number to call him. I called when I got home told me he would come out and correct problem. He came over and said that they never replace body of box unless rusted out. Then this was first mention of box outlet having incorrect connection. He also said that he figured three hours labor to replace pump, not install box. I asked him what he wanted to replce box, he said he was a master plumber and he wanted $110.00 more. I told him I would never recommend cochranville plumbing, he said he does not like to be hounded. I gave him check for balance of bill and he left. This is the third pump put in by cochranville plumbing and there was never no mention of hook up before. I have a chemical tank which has never been used since sine 1987.
On 07-19-13 I lost my water around 2:15pm I called cochranville plumbing around 3:15pm, no reply I called three other times Friday until 7:30pm no call backs whatsoever. On 07-20-13 I called again around 9am left message no call back. Went up to his office which is a mile from my home, no one was there. I waited until 10:45am then called another plumber in my area, who I picked out of phone book, called number and received call back. Explained situation to plumber told me if I checked circuit breaker told him yes. I told him I had a pump replaced five weeks ago and that I left five messages for him to call me and he never returned my calls. My wife and I are both senior citzens
