Initial Business Response /* (1000, 16, 2015/11/16) */
This is what we found in the website with regards to laws of gift cards-
Single-store cards-
Cards with a balance of less than $10 may be redeemed for the remaining value if the consumer asks. This avoids the problem of spending...

additional money on a purchase when it's difficult to find merchandise priced lower than $10.
OUr (Cocola) gift card is not a single store card. We have 5 different locations and our goods are not expensive items, with almost all pasties, mousses, cakes, and drinks less than $5.00. Customers do not have to spend much money for additional purchases. The value of our gift card is as low as $5.00.
We will do a further research with laws on gift card. Meanwhile, we have tried to contact the customer by phone but we were not able to contact her and offer our apology when our employees were not able to satisfy her request on the spot.
We also like to offer our apology for not being able to respond to this case earlier. Our head office is located at a different location and we only received the letter dated 10/26 a few days ago.

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 18, 2015/11/23) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I strongly disagree with what they said.
First, I have never received any phone call from Cocola Bakery since I filed my complaint.
Second, the gift card I asked them to cash only has $0.82 on it. In order to use it up, I have to spend extra money on unwanted pastry. The average cost of a pastry at Cocola is around $5, which is really inconvenient to any customer. Plus, I am tired of carrying a physical gift card around with such low balance.
Third, Cocoa's gift is not as they claimed "as low as $5". In fact, the one I got initially had a value of $25.
If a company cannot abide the gift card law, why did they sell the gift cards at the first places?! Refusing cashing small amount gift card balance will eventually push more and more loyal customers away. Keeping making excuses for their mistakes will only make customers dislike their products.
My initial purpose for reporting Revdex.com was to remind the business owner the existence of gift card law. After reviewing their respond, I am more disappointed at this bakery. I am planning to posting my experience to more social media such as Yelp, Facebook, etc.
I will tell all my friends to stay away from Cocola Bakery gift card as they will not cash any small amount gift card balance for you!
