could use a MAC computer but not an IPadShe indicates in her complaint that pages do not load, but has not included the fact that she is fully aware that pages written in FLASH can NOT load on her IPad Answer: I do not own an IPAD nor have I have ever owned an IPADWhen I inquired into having problems with my computer I was using a Macbook computer which nowhere on their site does it state that you cannot use a MACAlso after going back and forth with the IT department they stated there should be no issues with using a MACI will attach the email In the beginning, [redacted] had some difficulties navigating through the program She was advised on the availability of an orientation video that would walk her through the navigation, but she required an instructor to do so Since we no response [redacted] offered to work with her and apologized for not having access to ***’s PERSONAL email, since [redacted] was not emailing the University, but rather this former instructor’s personal email Answer: [redacted] was let go from the company and I was not informed until weeks later because I inquired into the delay in response on grading my internshipI have several emails between ***, and [redacted] in regards to not having a proper place to submit the internship toThere is NOWHERE on the site to submit the cases for the internship, nor does it mention who to send the University to release the Internship status on her account She complained no one was answering her, but did not attend any of the online conference times to talk to [redacted] , the instructor She took offense to [redacted] being unavailable for one week due to vacation, but did not re-submit any of the requested materials Answer: I attended two nights of conferences the weeks previous and NO one was on the callI emailed [redacted] and asked her if we could talk to go over my cases and she emailed me back and said sure the next night at 8:30pmI agreedI received an email the next day stating she had a migraine and would talk to me when she got back from a WEEK vacation and still did not reach out to me when she got back The Internship is a mandatory and invaluable part of the be necessary for [redacted] to improve some of her coding skills in order to do so Answer: I have been done with the cases since the end of march I had no problem taking feedback and working on cases but as far as I knew from things with [redacted] things were on trackI had a delay with [redacted] and Bill on getting grades back but still did not know what I needed to do next to get my certificateIt was only recently on the "recorded" call that any action was stated for me to complete more cases to get a certificateOn that call it was promised that I would have grades by that fridayThat was weeks ago from today and I have yet to receive grades on that topicI know [redacted] had a death in the family but I reached out to [redacted] during the following week asking her what the delay was and she said her internet was down and she had no way to contact [redacted] I had no problem receiving help from [redacted] but at this point I had already been delayed two months waiting on feedback of what to do next and [redacted] did not mention any issue with my cases until this recorded callI actually heard there were issues through a friend of mine who was told and is also taking the course CODESMART™ University’s standard operating policy is to run without refund, in accordance with the signed agreement from [redacted] She is in the final weeks of her program and needs no other program to complete her education ***’s CODESMART™ University education enabled her to pass the AAPC national exam on the first try, and in spite of her brusque responses and complaints, she has been attended to with a positive spirit and an excellent education [redacted] had, in fact, written a testimonial about our program when she passed the examination A copy of that I wrote a testimonial before I had issues with the internshipAlso in the same email [redacted] asked me for a testimonial she also asked me if I would be interested in a consulting position that never pursuedI understand work was slow so I am not upset about that email is attached At the same time [redacted] was complaining about a lack of communication, she exchanged over emails with the Online Education can be challenging for some students who need a lot of personalized attention, but we are positive [redacted] has received an excellent educationHer own testimonial and her national growing student population and we have been working relentlessly to insure that our host site FIU either fixes issues or provides us with the ability to fix them as they come up either technical or Apologies that we used the term iPad when we meant to refer to an Apple product which does not support Flash Technology unless the student downloads the FLASH playerThe new MACS do not have Adobe Flash Player already installed but by installing the Flash Technology, the MAC may be used to complete the programThat was explained to *** early into her training, and she was able to work around it since she has completed her course training and has only the internship to complete and is clearly presented on the website FAQs
2. We are working closely with *** to help her finish her only requirement left to graduate, which she has expressed interest in doing

explained to [redacted] that CODESMART™ University is

Answer: I do not own an IPAD nor have I have ever owned an IPAD. When I inquired into having problems with my computer I was using a Macbook computer which nowhere on their site does it state that you cannot use a MAC. It is a comprehensive asynchronous learning environment, which covers all areas of
knowledge needed by a New Medical Coder to be a successful medical coder or biller.
 
At CODESMART™ University, we provide our learning in a multiple of
modalities including online office hours with a live instructor via [redacted] or
[redacted], email and blog posting.  [redacted] has almost completed her online learning and has dealt with our staff
and instructors on many levels.

training and be able to get a job in the medical coding field.  She will receive a release of her Internship
status when she achieves the necessary degree of mastery in the coding of
records in all clinical modalities.  We believe
she now understands this.

Review: I recently tried to contact an employee of CodeSmart by the name of [redacted] via email that I had previously spoken with in the fall of 2014. The response I received was that she no longer worked for CodeSmart and I was to contact her shareholder, [redacted]. His email address was also given. I was confused as I am a medical coding student and didn't understand why I would need to contact a shareholder with questions about my program. I decided to investigate [redacted] online and learned he had been involved in a pump and dump scheme involving CodeSmart stocks and that charges had been brought against him in the summer of 2014. I then tried to contact [redacted] who I had initially spoke with upon enrolling and I received a notice that those emails were undeliverable. I then tried to call the number on the main website and got through to a woman who was an ex-employee of CodeSmart. She was irate as this was her personal phone and she kept getting calls for CodeSmart. She gave me a number I could try which was to Florida International University. That got me nowhere as well. I then tried a different number (as I ended up with 4 different phone numbers between correspondence and the website) which brought me to [redacted]. The young woman I spoke with, [redacted], said they had my information and she would see if she could get me a number to call. The number she ended calling me back with brought me to tech support. They could only help me with technical issues and that's it. I was told because I could not get in touch with anybody to answer my questions, I should try and finish the program as quickly as possible. There is NOBODY to answer my questions. There are NO instructors to talk to. They are supposed to offer an internship/externship at the end of the program. Who runs this if there is nobody to go to when I get to that point? How can I trust this school after discovering all of this? I still have another year to pay on my loan. I will also be contacting the attorney general's office as well as a lawyer. This whole situation has been very bizarre and just feels like it has scam written all over it. I will most definitely NOT recommend CodeSmart to anybody who is looking to become a medical coder. I have come across another CodeSmart student who says she has had a very similar experience.Desired Settlement: I highly doubt I will get a refund of the $2973 I have already paid, but I would be extremely happy if I have my electronically debited payments stopped for an "education" I cannot trust or use at this point.

Review: I paid 3,996.00$ for my online coding course I am falling behind due to their website and me being unable to access my course. I have contacted their IT department on several occasions and they hVe not answered since 1/** when they stated their servers were back up and I should now be able to access. I emailed the man [redacted] whom I purchsed the course through as well with no response. I am frustrated and will be unable to finish my course in a timely manner, I have had problems off and on throughout the course, but recently it's been nearly 2 months without access.I am unsure of exact contact dates prior to dec/ january but several contact to the it dept were made.Desired Settlement: I would like the connection issue resolved and an extension on my course or a full refund of my 3996$ which I paid for the course.

Review: I signed up for their ICD10 classes. was solicited on the phone. looked them up. seemed reputable. Paid in full. 5,000.00. had many problems from the very beginning, and one day the website just disappeared. Please contact me with any information you have about options I might have to get a refund or file a law suit, etc. thank you. [redacted]Desired Settlement: full refund of the 5,000.00 dollars would be nice. How do I go about that. Is there a class action suit or do I need to file alone.

Review: I am a current student and Code Smart University as of January 2014. I have excelled through the program and am on my final lesson. I did however take time away from my studying with work and family, but remained in contact with three individuals who recently I have reached out to and received automatic responses that they are no longer associated with the university, furthermore I have tried to make contact with the university via e-mail and phone and have received a automatic voice mail recording and left messages for response with no avail. I have read several messages on the comment bored from fellow students that as well have been able to establish contact with Code Smart University. My primary concerns are the university is no longer in operation, which if so why have I not been contacted by the university or offered a refund. I know Code Smarts policy is not to refund the students, but I feel there is a breech in this contract if the university has not made effort to contact me after several failed attempts to contact them with the help I need with my education. Review: I purchased the ICD-10 online learning program through Code Smart last year, I have not anything back from this company since July of 2014. I have emailed the instructor to help with answering questions concerning tests questions, which books we needed to purchase (the year of the CPT manual) I have not heard anything back from this school since July of 2014 and have been trying to contact them since November 2014. It appears that other students have been waiting to hear back from someone on the blog without any luck I have tried to call the number that was given for contact, no answer there. It rings and then it goes to a busy signal. I called the College Network and the woman that I spoke to said everything is fine, continue to try to reach out, I guess she doesn't think that 4 months is long enough to continue to reach out. I did make contact with the man that registered me up for the classes, he states that he does not work for them anymore, not for about 7-8 months, he stated that because the CPT-10 was backed up another year, the school really did not need him right now. I also reached out to another administrator that sent me a welcome letter, she states that she has not worked there since about November 2014, the company owes her $25,000 and she sent a request for W-2 and the request was returned to her undeliverable. She did give me a number to call. I have been trying to call without any answer. I also talked with tech support thinking they may have a contact number. They said that they are contracted and they have not been able to reach anyone at Codesmart neither. I am quite concerned about the thousands of dollars that I have paid to attend these courses. Is this a legitimate school and/or business. They have not held up on the words of being available for questions concerning the classes. I would like some answers.Desired Settlement: I would like to know that this online program is still a real program, to find out why no one is available to those of us that are attending this course. Review: My name is [redacted]. I have been a student with CodeSmart University since May of last year (2013). I am writing this letter to express my concerns that may have been addressed, but most are still outstanding. I am beyond frustrated and disappointed with the program for New Medical Coders. This is my first experience with Online education, and most likely my last. Over the past eight months I have sent several emails to [redacted], as well as the IT Department. I was able to reach [redacted] by emailing her via an address I found on [redacted]. As far as [redacted] goes, her information was forwarded to me via the IT department. I have attempted to post questions in the forums where it says ask a question and receive no response, just an email back with my same question. In the beginning of the program I had several issues with the actual slides not loading which was supposed to be being addressed with IT and was never resolved; I just had to go off the notes section that were microscopic at that point, which I could have done on my own. I have more recently had problems with entire lessons not loading which were resolved after THREE weeks. The next issue I had was not being able to access BOTH practicums. I will attach the emails so I do not have to explain again, but this issue has not been resolved and I have not heard back from [redacted] either! Then there was an issue that took almost two weeks to resolve, my internship. There was no internship on my homepage, and after playing back and forth with [redacted], IT finally stepped in to get it resolved after almost two weeks. The last issue I have had is now starting the internship, which says there are 17 sections, but actually have 19, there is nowhere to submit the cases. It does not say where, or who to submit them to. I reached out to 2 different people this afternoon and no response. I am just very upset regarding the efficiency, professionalism, and communication with this program.Desired Settlement: Since writing this letter, I have had quite a few more issues in regards to communication and the internship. I would like a refund so I can pursue an education with a different school in a timely manner. CodeSmart University has delayed my education by at least 2-3 months at this point. the New Coding Professional Program. It is a comprehensive asynchronous learning environment, which covers all areas of

knowledge needed by a New Medical Coder to be a successful medical coder or biller.

At CODESMART™ University, we provide our learning in a multiple of

modalities including online office hours with a live instructor via [redacted] or

[redacted], email and blog posting. [redacted] has almost completed her online learning and has dealt with our staff

and instructors on many levels.

complete her studies. Our IT department, our lead instructor and I all

explained to [redacted] that CODESMART™ University is

written in FLASH and would not be compatible with her IPad. She was frustrated and continued to express

this frustration to each of the individuals as a new and unanswered question,

even though she had repeatedly been told that she could use a MAC computer but

not an IPad. She indicates in her complaint that pages do not load, but has not

included the fact that she is fully aware that pages written in FLASH can NOT

load on her IPad.

In the beginning, [redacted] had some

difficulties navigating through the program.

She was advised on the availability of an orientation video that would

walk her through the navigation, but she required an instructor to do so. Since we service our students in a variety of

ways, so walking her through the program was not the issue. The issue is the

time that [redacted] felt was taking too long - while she ignored opportunities to

expedite her training.

There was an issue with the hosting

platform at FIU with both forwarding the emails and the lead instructor, [redacted], did reach out to [redacted] as soon as she was aware of the problem. [redacted] worked very closely with [redacted] at that

time to assist her in completing the program.

[redacted] fails to mention in her complaint that [redacted] worked very closely

with [redacted] to enable her to pass the AAPC national examination for physician

practice medical coding on her first attempt.

There are 19 sections for students to

practice their coding skills under the guidance of a mentor. Unfortunately, [redacted] had to leave

our University, but her replacement, [redacted], did reach out to

[redacted] informed [redacted] that she had been emailing [redacted] directly and

gotten no response. [redacted] offered to

work with her and apologized for not having access to [redacted]’s PERSONAL email,

since [redacted] was not emailing the University, but rather this former instructor’s

personal email.

During this virtual meeting, [redacted] was

informed she needed to improve some of her coding skills for CODESMART™ University to release the Internship status on her

account. She complained no one was answering her, but did not attend any of the online conference times to talk to

[redacted], the instructor. She took offense to [redacted] being unavailable for one week due to vacation, but did not

re-submit any of the requested materials.

The Internship is a mandatory and invaluable part of the education process at CODESMART™ University, so [redacted] cannot state that she has

been finished since January. She is actually presently working to finish her Internship.

On the conference call Wednesday June [redacted], there was no

indication from [redacted] that she did not want to accept the help [redacted] was

offering her. She stated how she merely wanted to “understand where she stood.”

[redacted] was very clear in apologizing for the miscommunication between [redacted]

and [redacted] and stated she would work as hard as [redacted] to help her complete the

program, but that it would be necessary for [redacted] to improve some of her coding

skills in order to do so.

CODESMART™ University’s standard operating policy is to run without

refund, in accordance with the signed agreement from [redacted]. She

is in the final weeks of her program and needs no other program to complete her

education. [redacted]’s CODESMART™ University education enabled her to pass the AAPC national

exam on the first try, and in spite of her brusque responses and complaints,

she has been attended to with a positive spirit and an excellent

education. [redacted] had, in fact, written a testimonial about our program when she passed the examination. A copy of that email is attached.

At the same time [redacted] was complaining about a lack of communication, she exchanged over 14 emails with the [redacted] and Instructors. She complained only to the Chief Operating Officer of CODESMART™ University,

but started her email to Operations with a ‘HI THERE.’ Copies of that correspondence are attached as well.

Online Education can be challenging for some students who need a lot of personalized attention, but we are positive

[redacted] has received an excellent education. Her own testimonial and her national certification are proof.

CODESMART™ University works to improve our online training daily. We have added

presentation and increased live office hours, we hired additional instructors

to accommodate our growing student population and we have been working

relentlessly to insure that our host site FIU either fixes issues or provides

us with the ability to fix them as they come up either technical or educationally.

training and be able to get a job in the medical coding field. She will receive a release of her Internship

status when she achieves the necessary degree of mastery in the coding of

Answer: I do not own an IPAD nor have I have ever owned an IPAD. When I inquired into having problems with my computer I was using a Macbook computer which nowhere on their site does it state that you cannot use a MAC. Also after going back and forth with the IT department they stated there should be no issues with using a MAC. I will attach the email.

Answer: I am not aware of any "orientation video". I was not having trouble navigating the program. There were complete slides that would not load, or complete glossaries that would not load. There were also Modules/Practicums that I never received access to, even after emailing IT, the email provided if there were issues and the number provided for issues.

I am not sure what is meant by expedite her training, but I recall back in December having an issue with a complete lesson not loading, not being offered to walk through and getting a response to that email from IT in late January which is not a reasonable amount of time.

Answer: [redacted] did not work closely with me AT ALL. I only spoke to [redacted] ONCE since starting the program. You can check my phone records. It was not due to her that I passed the AAPC exam. She gave me one brief statement on E/M coding and that is the only thing she mentioned on the one phone call we had. The reason I passed is because I watched youtube videos and used the AAPC study guide. In all communications with [redacted] through email we only talked about IT issues or the internship, but even those emails were on at least a week delay.

Answer: [redacted] was let go from the company and I was not informed until weeks later because I inquired into the delay in response on grading my internship. I have several emails between [redacted], and [redacted] in regards to not having a proper place to submit the internship to. There is NOWHERE on the site to submit the cases for the internship, nor does it mention who to send the cases to. The only reason I originally emailed them to [redacted] was because [redacted] forwarded me her email to get my internship setup, because for 3 weeks I was not even able to access the internship. From that point on I began forwarding my cases to [redacted]'s WORK email at Codesmartgroup, until she was let go. Then I had to wait for [redacted] and [redacted] to go back through all my cases and give me credit or grades which I have yet to receive and this was back in March.

I received an email the next day stating she had a migraine and would talk to me when she got back from a 2 WEEK vacation and still did not reach out to me when she got back.

Answer: I have been done with the cases since the end of march. I had no problem taking feedback and working on cases but as far as I knew from things with [redacted] things were on track. I had a delay with [redacted] and Bill on getting grades back but still did not know what I needed to do next to get my certificate. It was only recently on the "recorded" call that any action was stated for me to complete more cases to get a certificate. On that call it was promised that I would have grades by that friday. That was 3 weeks ago from today and I have yet to receive grades on that topic. I know [redacted] had a death in the family but I reached out to [redacted] during the following week asking her what the delay was and she said her internet was down and she had no way to contact [redacted]. I had no problem receiving help from [redacted] but at this point I had already been delayed two months waiting on feedback of what to do next and [redacted] did not mention any issue with my cases until this recorded call. I actually heard there were issues through a friend of mine who was told and is also taking the course.

1. Apologies that we used the term iPad when we meant to refer to an Apple product which does not support Flash Technology unless the student downloads the FLASH player.. The new MACS do not have Adobe Flash Player already installed but by installing the Flash Technology, the MAC may be used to complete the program. That was explained to [redacted] early into her training, and she was able to work around it since she has completed her course training and has only the internship to complete and is clearly presented on the website FAQs

2. We are working closely with [redacted] to help her finish her only requirement left to graduate, which she has expressed interest in doing.

3. It is the policy of CodeSmart not to refund students once they have already accessed materials.

4. We sympathize with [redacted] for the frustrating experience she has had. Though hundreds of other students have passed through our program without the issues she has mentioned, we still want only for her to find success as a coder and see the returns she deserves for all her commendable hard work in our program.

Review: I signed up for Codesmart University one year ago .I have completed all assignments and just need to upload my internship to finish and get my certificate .I have tried to contact the school since December [redacted] by phone and email and have not received a response . Every instructor I have tried to contact says they no longer work there . Every time I call it goes straight to voicemail and no one responds to my call. I contacted the help desk and they say they can only help with computer issues. After some research I find that the company has been charged by the FBI for insider trading and that happened the same time all the instructors quit .So my problem is I spent $4100 on this class and can not get a certificate to say I have finished .I have passed all exams and tests .No one will return my calls or emailsDesired Settlement: I want to have my certificate of completion or a refund for services not provided .After a year of hard work I have nothing to show for my effort .So let me graduate and help with job placement like the contract said or refund my money so I can go to a real college and get my certification
