Mrand Mrs***,
I want to very quickly state that the technician that came out to your home was my father, Cody himself, so please forgive me if emotions mix with my logic for my responseAs for your concerns over pricing, I think the best way for me to explain things is to give
you a breakdown of the parts and labor that you have paid.
Currently, you have paid $for the spark switch harness, $in labor, and $in tax for a total of $349.54.
Wlmay Parts Distributing, the only certified Whirlpool distributer in the Boise are, sells these parts for $+ tax, plus the cost of shipping (about $5.00-10.00)The difference in cost (roughly $16.50) is the cost of doing business, ordering, shipping and bringing the part to your home, plus a year parts and year labor warrantyWe paid the upfront cost of ordering, stocking and having the necessary parts available for your convenience to complete service in a timely mannerWe were able to be back out to your home in less than days because we always put rush orders on our parts so that you are not inconvenienced further but having your appliance out of commission for longerWe choose to order our parts from Wlmay since they are a Whirlpool factory certified company who does not deal with used or refurbished parts.
If our main argument comes from your internet research on Amazon, Ebay and other similar websitesI can assure you, those parts are not factory order parts or even unused partsWe actually have a parts clerk here in the office whose previously worked at a company in California where his only job was stripping appliances and selling the parts on Ebay.
The cost of repair is also not just the cost of the part itselfThe costs must also include the technician's time and labor, gas to get to your home, our office staff, our rent, insurance, the cellular phone the technician used to call you, and the list can go on and onOtherwise, we would be out of businessI would also like to add that our services have a year warranty, which is unmatched by any other servicer in the areaYou are paying for your repair to be done right and guaranteed that it is done right.
Our labor charges are standardized charges that are set by the National BluebookAll of our technicians use this model, Cody includedThe concept behind this is that we charge you a flat rate, regardless of the time it takes to perform the repairNaturally, a technician with more experience will be able to complete a repair faster than a technician with less experienceWe believe that the cost of the repair shouldn't hinge on the amount of time but rather on the expertise neededCody has years of experience in this industry so naturally he has a tendency to be quite fast, but his prices should not be effected by this fact
Cody spent approximately hour assessing the unit to find the problem and hour to replace the part upon return (plus travel time to the home)I would assume that a technician from another company that does not use the Bluebook would charge by the hour and would not have Cody's experience, most likely taking about hour longer to complete this repairAt an hourly rate, you, as the customer, would be paying more for this repair. I am not sure where Home Adviser gets its algorithm for the expertise needed for completing repairs, but this is the rate that we have charged for over years now for this particular repair.
We never claim that we are the cheapest, and we are completely upfront with the fact that we are not, and likely never will be the cheapestWe like to consider the saying, you get what you pay forI am hoping that you received: exceptional customer service, a technician that was honorable and professional, service that was provided and completed in a timely manner, a technician who was also drug tested and background checked to ensure your safety in your home, and a warranty that is unmatched by anyone in the areaFar too often we have gotten customers who had previously gone to other businesses and have found that they would send out a service provider who was not professional, a rip-off who didn't fix anything, or someone who was downright creepyInstead, paying less would mean an untrained servicer elsewhere who shows up in his own truck and has only been doing repairs out of his garageWe have higher rates because we believe that we provide a superior service.
I hope that this email has cleared up your concerns on the pricingIn the past we have had customers that came to me with some of the same concerns, have used other companies, and then come back to our company saying that they would rather pay a little more for professional technicians that cares about the work that they do.
Cheers,
Loren H***
