Review: On July **, 2010, I consulted with “[redacted]” at Cohen's [redacted], NYC branch, I was accompanied by my wife. I provided [redacted] with my attached prescription dated May **, 2010 which called for a progressive type lens which I had not worn before. I explained to [redacted] that I am a trial attorney and it is very important to me that the lenses be thin as possible and professional looking. She assured me that this would be accomplished through the Hi Index process. She suggested a Calvin Klein wire type frame which is stamped “140 Calvin Klein Collection CK7407 461". I also purchased Calvin Klein reading glasses. I believe she charged me $430.03 for the Hi Index Progressive lenses and about $300-$400 for their frame. The receipts are in my possession. I was not given a $100.00 discount though I was in possession of a promotional flyer. When I began to wear the new glasses, I received comments that they looked “fractured” from the side and people could hardly believe the thickness or distortive nature. They do not look professional, the lens is not at all thin and they are most unflatting in a wire frame. I tried to make due as I am very busy with running my own business. When I finally found some time, I returned to the [redacted] store with my complaints. The owner was most sarcastic and unaccommodating. He would not send the lenses back to be redone but rather said I’d have to purchase a slightly thicker pair of frames and re-order new lenses at the regular cost. I have been told by other eye care professionals that a higher indexing should have been performed and it may be possible that high index was not even utilized. As the glasses are neither thin or professional looking, I request either a full refund or that the lenses be redone using every resource to effect minimum thickness and a professional look. Kindly advise of your prompt decision.Desired Settlement: Either return my payment of $830.03 or provide me with a new pair of lenses and frame with the appropriate frame and lens thickness.

Review: Cohen's Fashion Optical on East 42nd had posted a Groupon with the redemption of $300 towards ANY pair of glasses, no matter what the brand. After purchasing the Groupon I booked an appointment with their onsite optometrist for Sat 4/**/14. Afterwards, I was assisted by the store manager to pick out a new pair of eyeglasses. Upon asking for the pricing of the glasses I was given the price of $898 for the YSL brand, style 6370. In addition I was charged $199 for lenses plus an extra $100 for anti-glare, minus the supposed $300 from the promotion, bringing the grand total to $598.00 (including taxes), this price was suppose to reflect prices with my Groupon discount. Upon investigation I found out that the average range of retail price for the glasses are actually $195-250. Average price for lenses WITH anti-glare $160, I know this because I called 8 different Cohen's Fashion Optical stores in NY. Although this is a franchise and the stores are not affiliated, it is clear that prices were unlawfully inflated so that my Groupon was not actually applied. I called the [redacted] location inquiring about basic lenses with anti-glare pricing and with out hesitation the very same store manger, [redacted], who assisted me said $160, when I inquired about the YSL 6370 frames she gave me a price of $230. Inflating prices is an unethical practice, furthermore the Groupon does not properly reflect the true promotional value the customer is give, which is none at all. I was charged DOUBLE the advertised discounted offer of $300, which was not truly applied. When I called the same East 42nd store back to have the store manager pull my file out she blatantly avoided me and made me feel as though I was wasting her time, after she unlawfully charged me $598, on top of falsifying advertised prices customer service was absolutely horrid, unproductive and unknowledgeable.Desired Settlement: I desire a refund for the extra money I unlawfully charged, in the amount of $522.50. Pricing details: $199 (frames) + $160 (lenses) + $16.50 (NY State Taxes) - $300 (promotional value)= $75.50 (TRUE PROMOTIONAL VALUE)... $598.00 (false value charged) - $75.50 (True Promotional Value) = $522.50 (VALUE TO BE REIMBURSED). Furthermore I would like an apology from Cohen's Fashion Optical. If the parties cannot come to a compromise I am requesting FULL REFUND, without product.

Review: In December 2014 ordered prescriptioned sunglasses - wrong prescription 4 or 5 times - rude, unprofessional staff, no apologies, no phone calls back - still no glasses -contacted corporate office - was told I would get a full refund (rather than a credit, which is what I desired) - never returned my call(s) telling me when, etc. I want nothing more to do with this organization - awful reviews from many disgruntled customers with similar problem.Desired Settlement: I want a full refund - either in a check or cash - please see above

Review: 12/**/15 Asked what insurance I had, showed Medicare card. Shakira (salesperson) said I was eligible for a 30% Medicare discount; other salesperson said 50% off. Charged me $574 (which would have made the glasses $750 to $834 without the discount!). 12/**/15 Glasses were made with very thick, heavy material. I went back asked for thinner lenses. Was told it was the frames not the lenses. I switched frames, said I want them thin like the last pair I got at this location (showed current glasses every time I went there). 12.**.15 Picked up new glasses, same thick, heavy lens. I complained again. Shakira was disinterested and dismissive. 1/**/16 I spoke to manager, Karen, who was rude and unprofessional. Said they would change the lenses at an additional cost of $200. Discussed material for lenses. She said “Well, what do you want them made of?” As if that should be the consumer’s resonsiblility. I said thin polycarbonate. Paid another $200 for a total of $774 (after “Medicare discount”). I said “you know you’ve already overcharged me. I am on Social Security with limited income.” She shrugged, said “the lens people have to get paid. They don’t work for nothing.” Asked for refund, she said they only give store credit. Again, I was told by Karen that it was the frame making them so heavy, so I switched again. 1/**/16 Picked up glasses and AGAIN they had same thick, heavy lenses. The glasses are painful to wear and leave deep red pressure marks on my nose. I cannot keep them on for more than an hour. I do not want to incur further charges from this unscrupulous establishment and will have to get new glasses elsewhere (already having spent $774). Their unwillingness to try to resolve the problem, and the attitudes of the staff and manager are unacceptable.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund so I can purchase needed glasses from a reputable optician.
