I disagree with everything MrWhalen says in his responseThe bottom line is that he wrote me an email telling me he was ripping up my invoice and and that I owed his nothing, when in fact he quickly deposited my check and then pretended not to be aware of whether it was deposited or notI wasn't belligerent; I wasn't nastyi simply wanted to talk on the phone rather than go back and forth on emails as he seems to preferI had no intentions of ever using him again because of his behavior, and I'm sorry I took the time to go to his office now that I see what an amateur and unprofessional he is in conducting his businessI thought and still think, after speaking with several PROFESSIONALS that are CPAs, that he was overcharging me! the point is, he told me several times that he was returning my check and that I owed him nothing, and then threatened me by saying that if I didn't stop emailing(his decision to do business this say, not mine!) that it would delay my check being returnedThis is after he/his office completely screwed up my home address and sent all of my personal info to an address that was truly perplexing -- obviously his office and he are not careful as to where they send packages with personal informationHe didn't return my checkHe can urge anyone to go onto his website that he wantsI'm sure they're his friends who agreed to write these critiques for him because I had a HORRIBLE experience dealing with him and will continue to inform all of my NJ friends and business people to steer clear of him and post the same on [redacted] and any other organization that deals with these sorts of situationsMrWhalen doesn't have a clue as to how to properly treat people when they're paying him for a serviceagain, he needs to return the check that he at least twice said he would return and he never filed my taxesI had to redo them and file them myself

I wanted to provide my official response to complaint ID *** from *** *** Most of the statements that *** *** has made in her complaint are factualThey simply lack the honest and rationale context of my interactions with her. Let me say, in my year career preparing
income tax returns, I have always treated belligerent and abusive customers the same wayIf you were subjected to what I have been, your course of action would be exactly the same. *** *** states that I refused to reduce my fee… “Rather than work out an agreed upon price.” 100% true. The Facts:After her tax work was completed, but not yet filed, I presented *** *** with my invoiceShe complained about the amount and attempted to get me to reduce my feesThis is a standard trick used by unscrupulous customers. I refused to reduce my fees, which is my right, EXCEPT *** *** did not agree. I then did what I always have done since I prepared my first tax return in when confronted with these types of individuals. As an amicable agreement could not be reached, I agreed to delete her invoice, WHICH MEANT SHE OWED ME NOTHING! and told her she would need to find another way to have her taxes preparedThis was after all of the work was completedThis means means that *** *** has paid me nothing and I lost money on this case. She has paid me nothing for all of my hard work on her behalf and SHE is still complaining. *** *** states that “He refused to phone me… instead he conducted our conversations strictly through emails… “ 100% true. The Facts:Her belligerence, yelling and abuse caused me, rightfully, to only communicate with her via emailThen, unfortunately, I had to block her from emailing me as well *** *** states that “he sent it to the wrong address.” 100% TrueMy office staff did make an addressing mistake on the package being returned to herBut, even before that package was put in the mail, I emailed her a full copy of all of her supporting documents so there would be NO DELAY in getting her returns completed by someone else or herself. She is completely disingenuous when she states “which meant I had to wait weeks in total to get that package back so that I could file my taxes myself.” Again, this is completely untrue and shows her lack of character. She had copies of all of the supporting documents in a pdf file sent to her via email. *** *** states that “He did in fact deposit my check..” 100% TrueDuring tax season the processing of checks to be deposited is handled by my staffWas *** ***’s check deposited, definitelyHas a full refund been issued? DefinitelyThat refund check still remains uncashed although it was mailed to her weeks ago. *** *** states that “This man is doing business in a completely unacceptable, incompetent manner…” 100% UntrueSince passing the CPA exam in 1990, I have never been disciplined by my licensing body. *** ***’s recent complaint is the first and only one registered with the Revdex.com in my name, ever. Is it possible that I treated *** *** differently than the tens of thousands of satisfied clients I have assisted since 1987? Of course, but in looking at the facts, and my professional history, it is clear that her writing to the Revdex.com is more of the same behavior that forced me to fire her as a client in the first place. This Revdex.com complaint only reinforces to me that I made the right decision to:1) Refund her 100% of any fees paid to me, and2) to expeditiously return all of her original documents that I had in my possession. There is nothing more that I could have done to treat her professionally and with respect, which is always my daily goal with all clientsI cannot say the same for her. Thanks so much for your patience and time.Will the attached suffice as proof of sending her another refund check? I put a stop payment on the original refund check I sent her.Let me know if the attached suffices for your records.Please let me know when the final texts are posted on  your website for my firm.

Mr. Whalen is lying about the fact that he sent the first check. There is no check in the package he misaddressed and sent out, and there remains no check in the package I finally received from him/his business. If in fact he does the right thing with sending a check now, the matter is closed. There would be no reason for this complaint had he behaved properly from the start.
