Cohen's Fashion Optical (767 Lexington Avenue) Reviews (2)

Review: I came in with a groupon. The exam went fine. Trying to just pay for new lenses was a whole other story. All I wanted, was to keep my own frames and have the new prescription lenses inserted. THAT'S IT. Due to a brain injury I live with [redacted]. I wear a medical dog tag. It is bright red. The staff overwhelmed me with giving in to trying state of the art digital lenses. I was pressured into signing a document. I was told I had nothing to lose, it was a 30 day trial with no strings. When I picked up my glasses and put them on I nearly fell over. Staff told me to give it a couple of days. I told them I was disabled and [redacted] was one of the conditions I have. I was then told it was my fault I didn't tell them and that it wasn't a "trial". They kept me there until I broke down, pulled out my cane and began to shut down. The [redacted], now involved, told me I could have the new prescription lenses but still had to pay the $400 as they give no refunds. So, in summary, I went in for an exam for new prescription lenses, using my own frame, had a groupon but have to pay $400 instead of $100. I feel I was railroaded and pressured to do something I did not want to do. Then punished because I did not reveal my disability. I see now I was not a person who simply wanted only two things. I was a target and then blamed I was disabled and did not disclose it. If they had just provided with the simple lenses I requested this would not have turn into my being blamed for everything and coming up with $400 on disability fixed income.Desired Settlement: Letter of Apology of treatment causing great distress upon my disability. The staff and [redacted] misrepresented themselves and refused accountability by placing all responsibility on myself. And, amount allegedly owed, dismissed

Review: I purchased a [redacted] deal for Cohen Optical. As I do not have health insurance and I believed this was a "good deal." When I realized that my deal was about to expire, I made sure I scheduled an appointment to take care of my glasses. I even called ahead of time and spoke with three different Cohen Optical locations. I asked about the scratch resistant coating on the glass as well as the anti-glare. I was told that the scratch resistant coating was $20 and the anti-glare was $50. There was never any mention of the necessity to purchase a minimum of a $200 frame anywhere on either the [redacted] deal or on their website. Even when I called ahead of time and visited the store to pick out my glasses no one mentioned that. So, I went in expecting only to pay a most $70 for the extras. The frames according to this website [redacted] are only $100 and are two years out of date. Cohen optical charged me $200 for the exact same frame. In addition, I was told the price for the lenses was $250 and that included the scratch resistant coating, UV, and anti-glare but they would not give me an itemized receipt with that information on it. When I asked if I could purchase my lenses a la carte so, I can choose what I actually wanted, they told me their lenses just come with it (that's never the case at optical place I been to). No other explanation was provided. This is not what I agreed to when I purchased this [redacted] deal. TO THEIR CREDIT, the service was nice but it should be if you're cheating people out of their money.Desired Settlement: I want the $130 I paid refunded. That information that it requires a minimum of a $200 purchase should have been on the [redacted] deal. Otherwise it's just false advertising.
