College Hunks Hauling Junk and Moving Reviews (%countItem)

I contracted College Hunks to do my local move, the moves broke a piece of workout equipment and lost an end table. Also over charged me.
I contracted with College Hunks to do a local move, first they broke a piece of workout equipment, the lost a end table and I later discovered they also damaged my tv stand. Also they over charged me, the movers worked a total of 2 hours and I was charged for 4 hours, I was also over charged for them to drive from Nashville to Franklin for a fee of 125 dollars. When I told them they lost my end table they refused to claim any responsibility, to date I have not been contacted and I have not received anything for the damage workout equipment or the lost end table. They also discussed my move with another customer which is unprofessional to say the very least.

Desired Outcome

I want a refund of 250 dollars for the damaged equipment that can no longer be used and the end table they lost. I also I would like an apology for the horrible treatment I suffered.

Our team was responsible for damaging a plastic cosmetic piece off of an equipment bike. We have the make and model of the equipment bike and have put in a request with that company about the plastic piece in question. We are awaiting ordering for this piece and will be out to replace the plastic piece at that time.

Our moving team also was advised to load the items and unload them into the possession of another moving company on the day of service. The other moving company who is not fully insured and bonded, was contracted out by the apartment complex due to their elevator being inactive.

All rates and pricing were provided and confirmed by the client on a recorded line. There was no misleading information provided or over charging. Trucks and crews are equipped with gps so we track arrival, transport, and unloading arrival time.

We apologized right away about the broken plastic piece on the exercise bike and before the move was over, our office spoke to the client about the claim process and she was able to e-mail in the make/model of it to get that process started, which it has and is currently open as discussed above.

Please do not hesitate to reach out with any further questions.

Our team leader, a listed Marine who has been fully background checked and vetted since we are bonded, confirmed that he loaded and unloaded the end table in question and put it in the possession of the other moving company.

When discussed with Denise, since they told her they don't have it, then "we lost it". Unfortunately, this claim was denied as we could not take responsibility for a piece of furniture after it left our possession.

The move was complete

Customer Response • Aug 17, 2020

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
First the piece they are calling cosmetic isn't at all cosmetic, it tracks the workout. Second the company cannot prove the other company lost this end table and one of the guys was also helping moving the furniture with the other insurance company which is insured and bonded. And no this pricing was not told to me prior to my move or else I would not have contracted with them. Also they don't get to decide who comes into my home to repair my equipment. Also they have never contacted me about repairing my rower and I will not allow anyone representing them to enter my apartment. Now I want full reimbursement of the item their mover damaged.

College Hunks Hauling Junk and Moving Response • Aug 18, 2020

In regards to the Pricing not being told to the consumer;

I have attached the call recording to the call where services are scheduled. It was an in depth call and 18 minutes long. Approximately at the 12 minutes and 45 second mark, our team member Shea starts to go over the pricing info and rates. The consumer asks for the costs directly and is provided them clearly in the recording and approved.

I am not sure why the consumer would book services with out knowing what the charges would be but as you can see from the call recording attached, that was never the case.

In regards to the damage, the piece that tracks the work out broke off from his plastic holder. We are fully aware and would like to replace this piece.

The consumers service was completed on 8/10. at 1pm. At approximately 1:34pm, our office emailed the consumer to start the process in replacing the damaged piece, That email is below,

"Hey ***!

To begin the claims process, we will need the make and model of the equipment piece.

Once we receive that, we will get you set up for an appointment for a manager to come out.

Talk soon,
Shea
"

The consumer, to this date, has refued to provide the make and model of the equipment piece so we can order the new piece and have it installed.

We, as a company, would love to resolve the only issue we see at hand which is the damaged part to the exercise machine which we a ready to order and replace with the cooperation of the consumer.

Offering me a Settlement less than the LAW states.
On December 16th I used College Hunks to move my household belongings. During the move my 4 piece SECTIONAL couch was DAMAGED. On December 17th Joe who is a Representative of College Hunks came to my home to access the DAMAGE. He said that he could repair it out of town and it would take over 30 days. Maybe even longer since as of today January 11th we still have had NO communication from the repair guy. Or I could take $150. I declined the $150 because I know that would not cover the damage. The couch is less than 3 years old. Joe stated that was his final offer. I called a FURNITURE repair company that gave me a quote of $246.93 to come to my home and repair it in 10days. I passed this information on to College Hunks and Joe DENIED the quote and said his offer was bottom line. I submitted my Original receipt for the couch to College Hunks. I reached out to the FURNITURE comany( *** in *** to try and get the exact weight but NO ONE Could give me that. HOWEVER I was sent an email from the Company Stating that my set is Way OVER 150 pounds which Joe is basing the $90 settlement on. Steven the store Manager said that it could weigh anywhere from 400 to 600 pounds. Steven from *** called College Hunks on Thursday January 9th to tell them this MORE ACCURATE information but was DISMISSED. I ONLYA want was is HONESTLY owed to me for the DAMAGE the Company did. The LAW states $.60 per pound and that's all I am asking for. I DONT want to be CHEATED or Low balled because Joe got upset he was asked to leave my home due to his Demeanor. When this occurred Joe no longer displayed the Ability to think Clear and be fair or Customer service centered. I would like to either have another Representative from College Hunks to come out and see for themselves the entire Sectional or to just Be paid the fair price and be done. Please contact me if I can clear up any gray area to this matter. Thank you so very much

Desired Outcome

I would like another Representative from College Hunks to come to my home and see for themselves that the Couch is much heavier than the $90 Joe is trying to give me OR contact *** and speak to Steven the manager and get the most ACCURATE weight to issue a fair and Honest Settlement

Thank you for reaching out. There were 2 friction scuffs/small tears caused to one piece of the sectional couch while moving into your apartment in Antioch. We take full responsibility for that happening and do apologize that it did happen. We offered to make it right by offering you (2) options. A cash pay out of $150 or to have the couch repaired by our 3rd party furniture repair company (***). You chose to go the repair route which was accepted. The repair company was slow to respond due to this transpiring over the holidays. We remained in touch and advised as soon as they did we would reach out with the next steps. During that time, you received an estimate of $288 (As told to our team) to have it repaired by another company. We offered the $150 pay out to use toward it if you wanted it done by that company. If not, then we would have to wait for *** from *** as that is our approved Vendor. After that discussion, you asked for Joe to come back out to look at more damages that were caused on the move day that you did not mention before because they were not a big deal and you were only concerned of the couch. We set up an appointment for Joe to come back out either way to make right of any damages as promised. Upon arrival, he was shown a small nick in the wall that was being caused by the door knob opening and closing. You advised that there was no door stop there and that one was just put in by the management office with in last 24 hours at the current time Joe was there. Joe offered to fix the nick in the wall either way because it was small in nature and would not be a problem at all. The next claim was a mechanical bed that was not going up/down. The power worked but the motor did not. The bed is under warranty of the manufacturer and it was recommended to call the manufacturer since it was the motor not working and not damage caused during the move. There new claims ended up being false claims against the company and Joe, while being on-site, professionally explained that these claims were false at that time. The couch was then re-discussed and the same options applied. You were not happy, told Joe to leave, and said that you would handle this a different way and that you would also fix the small nick in the wall from the door opening and closing yourself. Before leaving, Joe asked to please email in the make/model of the sofa so he could get the weight of it and send a check for the lawful insurance amount. Upon receiving the e-mail with the purchase receipt, we called American Freight from our office (On a recorded line, which can be provided) and spoke with the Store. We gave them the exact SKU numbers of the purchase pieces and were provided the weight from the store representative. Upon completion of the phone call, we immediately e-mailed the consumer letting them know that a check will be in the mail right away. That was the end of our claim.

The College Hunks Customer service Manager Joe makes the company rate BELOW average. He is RUDEA with no Little people skills. Joe is NOT fair with taking care of issues. I feel like my Furniture was damaged by College Hunks and in return I am left taking care of it. I feel TAKING ADVANTAGE OF AND DISRESPECTED. I feel like I have been ROBBED and taking Advantage of. I will NEVER use this service again. BEWARE. DO NOT RECCOMEND. Joe needs to be Trained if he is the Spokes person for the Company. Patrick L should look into it ASAP

College Hunks were paid to package and move a TV. The TV was not packaged as agreed to resulting in damage to the unit.
A walk-thru occurred at my home. I was informed the TVs needed to be moved in the original packaging or the moving company boxes. I paid $100 for two moving boxes for the TVs. On moving day, they didn't bring boxes for the TVs. The TVs were wrapped and strapped to the side of the truck. I told the movers I had apprehension about moving the items without boxes and my expectation was we would verify each TV worked before they left. The movers assured me that was fine and I would have no issues. The TVs were brought in with a moving blanket and tape wrapped around each one. One TV worked fine. The other TV would not recognize a Roku stick or DVD player- there seems to be damage with the port. The company was contacted by the movers. I was told to call the office and "they would make it right". Initially, I didn't get a response. But, after several emails and calls the company asked the make and model of the TV (***- 58" High Definition Plasma). Again, no response until the company emailed the back of the moving papers. The back page had never been shown to me, the papers were on clip board and does not have my signature on the back. In addition to the TV boxes purchased, I bought the highest insurance amount possible. I have not filed a complaint against minor scratches on my antiques, scraps to walls on my new paint, refrigerator handles not installed and left outside - I have been very reasonable. All I want is for my TV to function as it did before I was moved by College Hunks. If the TV would have been transported as it was paid to be transported - properly packed in boxes- my TV would function. I can't use my streaming TV service or DVD player with the TV. The move occurred on Sunday, July 28, 2019. College Hunks Hauling and Moving of Middle Tennessee is the company. The last contact person is ***, Director of Sales & Marketing, phone: XXX XXX.***, email: ***.***@Once a file is started, I am happy to forward my email correspondence.

Desired Outcome

I would like the unit repaired so I can use theTV. I use streaming TV and dvds. Currently, the TV will not display or acknowledge these items.

Thank you for reaching out. Mrs. *** claim of a broken TV has been closed out since July. College Hunks Moving does not bare any liability to the mechanical parts of flat screens when moved. Prior to service, the client was provided proper paperwork to sign acknowledging the following; "The responsibility/liability of College Hunks Hauling Junk and Moving excludes the following: *Damages to the mechanical part of any electronic(s), which includes but is not limited to TV's, computers, stereos, washer/dryer, appliances, refrigerators, freezer, and trash compactors". This form which was signed by M. *** was emailed over to her for her records. Our team prior to moving the flat screen TV as policy, made sure that it turned on and off. After unloading the TV, the crew checked to make sure it turns on and off with no damage to the screen or picture. If the hdmi port is not working, College Hunks Moving is not responsible which was agreed upon prior to moving the flat screen TV. Please reach out with any further questions or proof of documentation. Thank you.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
As previously stated, the company did not pack the TV in boxes in accordance to their stated contract and I paid extra for boxes never used to transport the TVs. The negligence in not following the outlined packing procedures lead to damage. The drivers before strapping the TV to the side of the truck assured me the TV would properly function. Also, the insurance terms were on the backside of paperwork and that page was never pointed out to me- which is proven by no a lack of my signature on that page. The signature blank because I never saw the page.

College Hunks Moving can provide a copy of all paperwork with the signatures on them. This has been shared with the client via e-mail. If further documentation is needed, please advise and this can be provided. To help, College Hunks Moving will provided Standard insurance coverage of .60c lb/per article.

Document Attached***
I am attaching All documentation. The first page shows the $100 charged for boxes not received or used by the company to move two TV. The second page shows where no signature was provided on the terms because the terms were never pointed out to me by the company. The company is in violation of their own moving terms- to only move TVs in original packaging or their boxes... boxes which I paid for and never received. Secondly, it was only after damage to the TV that the company pointed out the back page of the moving sheet. This is evident by a lack of my signature.

I have attached all signed paperwork by Ms. on the day of service. Please let me know if anything else is needed.

They are very bait and switch. From crews to the supposed donation hauling to junk hauling, know they are very shady to inept. They will not provide on site tours prior to moving to assess crew needs and time frame, they charge to take donations where they actually do not donate directly to the charity but they take to their warehouse where they "sort" through the items to determine if they are suitable to donate and then they have a generic "***" slip you are given to itemize your item regardless of where YOU actually want the item(s) donated. Then we have the management who are abusive, blame laying and utterly useless when they send untrained inexperienced crews to the job and in turn blame you for the theft, the damage and incompetence. BEWARE.

Thank you for reaching out Ms.. In regards to your service on July 23rd, 2019 for LABOR service to help Load (2) *** Storage Pods. We did not provide removal service for this client so we are unaware of any issues with removal or where the negative complaint regarding our removal services came from as these services were not rendered. We are a fee based removal service and national partners with the ***. If* deems any items donateable, then they accept them, if not, then we can not determine what is donateable and not donateable as we are not the licensed 501c3 non profit organization. *** donation slips are electronic (per*** and their operation, not College Hunks). In regards to the actual services rendered on 7/23, Labor for 3 Movers to Load (2) Pods. Ms. called in after not being satisfied with her crew during the service, College Hunks Moving prides it self on customer service and making sure our customers are happy at the end of the day. Upon receiving Ms.s complaint, a College Hunks Director (Joe) reached out to Ms Tanya and let her know that he will be right there to resolve any issues. Upon his arrival, he sent the crew to their next job and stayed with Ms. Tanya for 2 hours, reorganizing the Pods and packing them as tightly as possible. In those 2 Hours, (Joe) spoke with Tanya and have great conversations with her. Everyone involved was happy as the previous problem had been resolved. Joe, the Director, apologized for any issues but completed her job to her satisfaction and also did not charge for the previous crews time that they were there. Tanya was happy with the bill, Joes apology, and the resolution that was provided to complete the service. Ms. made multiple calls into the office following her service asking for an apology and to speak with a manager about her service. She was advised multiple times, that Joe, the director, was on-site with her and did her job for her and that he was the top boss. He was the one that resolved all issues out there and made sure she was happy upon completion. Ms. Tanya continue to go online and write negative reviews across many social media platforms stating that her service was horrible and nothing was done. Joe called Ms. Tanya and asked what was wrong since everything was completed to her satisfaction with him out there that day. It was very confusing to Joe as Tanya was still saying how upset she was that no one apologized or a manager did not call her. Joe tried to explain to Tanya that he is the boss, and explained that to her that day when he was out there in his khakis and polos (Office Clothes) which she confirmed, complimented, understood, and was appreciate of. All in all, College Hunks completed this service with the Director of the company, apologized, and discounted her bill significantly.

Movers led by Chris *** damaged most of my furniture and broke off a piece of my Peloton bike. Movers charged for time spent on breaks.
This issue is related to my second time using College Hunks (Job ID XXXXXXX). Last year (the first time) went great. It was super organized, and I felt like I was dealing with a responsible and ethical moving company. But this time was one of the worst moves I've ever had (and I've moved every year for about the last 10 years).
Here are my complaints:
(1) *** (the leader) rounded the time to his advantage. The movers also took frequent breaks, which they didn't account for in the time that they charged me. The exact same move that was performed last year in 3 hours took 6 hours this year (and the drive was 30 minutes less this year), because of all of the breaks and added-in time. Last year, moving my 1-bedroom cost me a little over $300. This year, it cost me about $700.
(2) I made ONE request and stressed how important it was to the movers (and even to the person scheduling my move)... and that was "please don't break my $5,000 stationary bike." I showed them specifically what not to touch. Chris puts his weight on that specific area of the bike and breaks off a piece of the plastic. Even though I watched the entire incident, *** tried to convince me that he didn't break it. After trying to explain to him how plastic breaks, Chris spent time (that he charged me for) making phone calls and taking pictures. He told me his boss Tyler would give me a call that day. As you can probably guess, Tyler has never called me. I'm starting to wonder if "Tyler" even existed at all.
(3) Both movers showed up entirely unprepared. They required me to supply them with water bottles, because they didn't bring their own. I had to run to the convenient store to buy them some, as they stood in my apartment taking a break (that they charged me for). They did not have door stops. They kept asking me to throw away their trash.
(4) The movers didn't wrap most of my furniture, and they seemed to bang every piece of furniture on doorways and railings. There are scratches on literally everything I own. I didn't wrap everything myself, because in my experience from last year, the movers wrapped all of my furniture (even the stuff that I had wrapped myself). When I asked them about it, they were like "yeah, College Hunks wraps everything," so when I prepared for this move, I didn't wrap anything, because of that. I feel betrayed by the awesome movers I had last year.
(5) Both movers didn't seem to have any idea what they were doing. A couple of times, I had to explain to them how to carry certain items, because the ways that they were carrying items were so unpractical. For example, the movers lifted my filing cabinet up and turned it sideways, and when they started complaining about how heavy it was, I was like "it's easier if you put it on a dolly upright." And it was.
(6) In general, both movers (especially Chris) seemed out of shape and struggled to move a lot of items that I've never seen any other mover have issues with. After a couple of trips, Chris got to the point where he resorted to carrying only a couple light items with frequent breaks, while leaving the other mover with most of the work (which of course added to the time that I was charged for).
(7) When it came time for the bill, Chris jerked me around a lot with the price. It felt extremely uncomfortable. When I was like "wow! $700?? This is like twice as much as for the same move with the same company from last year," he blamed it on the other mover (Domonique). He explained it was because Domonique was "new." I couldn't believe he was blaming his terrible work performance on his coworker.

Desired Outcome

I would appreciate any reasonable refund for overcharged time, due to the movers. I would also appreciate any contact at all. As indicated in the description above, "Tyler" has not made any contact with me regarding my damaged bike. Additionally, Chris*** should not be in a leadership role. I feel like this may be the only way to provide direct feedback to the company.

Hey ***,

We apologize for any inconvenience or negative experience you endured on your second move with us.
Our team will be in contact with you today about the damage claim process and handling the damages of any items via insurance or repair and to discuss the timing on your move. *** will be reaching out, his contact is *** if you happen to miss his call and need to call back -

Three teams from College Hunks Hauling Junk helped me move from my 5bedroom house lived in by the same family for 60 years accumulating 8 junk trucks and 1 full moving van to storage, donation centers and recycle centers. Each team, 11 individuals total were HARD WORKERS, professional, competent, capable, friendly and got job done in one day for each team!
I cannot say enough about how they made the difference between and a grueling experience to a good experience.

The movers took more time than needed just to charge me more. They totally took advantage.
On December 10th 4 (FOUR) movers arrived at my 2 bedroom apartment to help me move.I was moving to a 3rd floor apartment BUT it only has 1 (ONE) set of stairs because of how the structure is built.
The move initially started at a respectable pace and then they started to move VERY slowly and some even stayed outside longer than necessary after they would go to load something into their truck.I watched some of them carry one light box and take 15 minutes to get back from the parking lot.My move should have taken 3.5 hours MAX but they deliberately moved at a very slow pace to basically MILK the clock.I was appalled at how 4 grown men can take that much time to move a 2 bedroom apartment.I made a complaint when they called me to verify payment and also when the company sent me a survey but I have been basically ignored. This was not my 1st time using movers so I know how it works and this was the worst service EVER! Watching the movers move so slowly knowing it was going to cost me more was very annoying but I could not do anything about it.

Desired Outcome

I need to be refunded anything I paid OVER the 3.5 hours it should have actually taken 4 grown men to move a 2 bedroom apartment.

On 12/10 we performed a move for the client, ***. We scheduled the customer with a 6 hour time block from 8am to 2pm to move a 3 bdrm apt, 1200 sq ft on the 3rd floor. This is the average time for a move this size. To make sure the move was done in the estimated time blocked off, College Hunks sent a 4th mover to speed up the move. *** was not charged for 4 movers. College Hunks Moving only charged for 3 movers during the process of the move which provided a substantial discount of $282 off the final bill.

Customer Response • Jan 03, 2019

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I do not accept their response because I watched the movers move at a slow pace meaning they did not actually perform at regular speed which would have resulted in LESS time being used for the move. When I booked the movers there was NO mention of a 6 HOUR window.Again as I mentioned the 3rd floor apartment only has 1 (one) flight of stairs and that cannot be used as an excuse on why they took longer.Bottom line is they did not execute the move at normal speed...they MILKED the clock as I mentioned.I have been moved by 2 movers before at a faster speed than that so I know it is possible.Again is this was their reason why did I not get any response from the company until I made this complaint ? They are fraudulent and I am extremely unsatisfied still.

Movers Broke Furniture & Refused To Offer Any Form of Remedy
On 12/2/2017 I hired the moving company College Hunks in Nashville, TN to move one room in my house to another house. Early on, they informed me that the desk had cracked and that it wasn't their fault, it was how the desk was made. I've had that desk moved by professional movers many times and NEVER has there been an issue. They then went to move the solid wood, very heavy filing cabinet and tried to lift it by pulling on the metal drawer handles, which then bent out of place. So they resorted to sliding the unit across the brand new hard wood floors without any padding underneath it. I was so alarmed at their discare for the home and furniture, I asked them to leave it as it was and ended their service.

My assistant calmly asked to speak with their manager, but they said "there is nothing we can do". So I asked someone on my team to call their office and talk to a manager. College Hunks responded saying, "there was no-one available and it would be a week or more until there would be a manager able to take his call." He then proceeded to say that he would like to come to their office in Brentwood and talk to whoever was in charge. College Hunks then called him back and informed him that he was "threatening" them if we came to their office. At this point, we decided to contact the Revdex.com. At no point did I, my assistant, or my boyfriend raise our voice or act in any manner other than calm and polite. We simply asked to speak to manager regarding details on an insurance claim or a discount on the moving fee. They then proceeded to charge the card on file for the entire amount of the move and we've heard nothing since.

I've hired multiple moving companies in Nashville, TN and never have I had such an unprofessional experience. We decided to go with College Hunks because it was an easy one-room move, I never expected it would be such a mistake.

Desired Outcome

There are well over $2K worth of damages and all I've asked is that College Hunks refund all or a portion of the moving fee they charged.

College Hunks Hauling Junk and Moving Response

At College Hunks Moving in Nashville, TN, we strive to provide our customers with a stress-free experience from the time of booking to the completion of service. We deeply apologize that we did not meet this consumers expectations but we are doing everything we can to resolve the issues at hand. I have been pulling the calls (all calls are recorded) and communications over the week end with a the clients team. The client/consumer did call in on Saturday morning to voice a complaint about the a desk that was broken. It was then that our customer service agent, informed the client that she will advise our moving manager of the situation and have them called him back directly. She provided the client with the expectation that he would receive the call back no later then Monday, December 4th, 2017 - with in 48 hours due to the complaint being on a Saturday and our moving manager was not in the office over the weekend. After setting the proper expectation, our client made a comment saying he would come down to the office if no one called him back the same day. Our agent, let our client know that she was the only person in the office today so there was no one else there to assist. She felt threatened by the remark so when she called the moving manager about the regular complaint, she let him know that she wasn't comfortable being in the office if this client showed up angry after she informed him of proper policy and expectations.

Outside of this communication, College Hunk will work to resolve the issue with this client with in the next 48 hours by discussing a proper solution via refund/credit to their services for any damages that are covered via standard insurance policy.

We apologize once again for not meeting the expectations on the day of service but we look forward to resolving the current issues on hand promptly.

Customer Response

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
It's been a week and I've still not been contacted by College Hunks nor has a credit/refund be given, even though they stated in their response that contact would be made within 48 hours.

We have left a message for the client asking to give us a call at 615.221.0250 to confirm payment information and discuss refund options. Please call between 8am and 4pm. Thank you

I scheduled my appointment with this company and they had two young men out later that day. They gave me a bid of $220 to haul a couple bags of potting soil and some random yard trash away. They then called me and told me that they would not be able to haul the potting soil away because it was to hard to get them loaded and it would take to long. I then called their manager and he agreed that they bid it for that price and would finish the job. An hour later they called me back and spoke with the owner, and informed me that they would give me $60 back and that they were taking what they could and leaving the rest. For what they took I could have taken it to the dump in Roberts for $40. I can not even describe how disappointed with this company. Your service was terrible to say the least.
