Collegiate Storage and Rental Reviews (7)

Review: I originally purchase a refrigerator rental through the company's website Sep *, 2013. My delivery date was scheduled for the [redacted], but no one ever showed up or called. After calling numerous times the next morning I was finally able to get through to a live person. She said she understood the problem and my fridge would be delivered that night (the [redacted]). But again, nothing was delivered and no one called. I emailed on the [redacted] and a man claiming to be the president of the company called and offered to have the fridge delivered that night and refund my purchase to give me a free rental. I agreed and a fridge arrived that evening.

It's now Sep ** and I still do not have my refund. When I called a week and a half ago I was told this can take up to two weeks. I called again this morning to ask where my refund is and was told by the same man who claimed to be the president that these things take time and he's at the mercy of the banks and there are about 40 refunds to process. Yet I didn't receive any type of definitive answer or solution. This is a story I'm just not buying and given the quality of customer service I've received thus far there's no reason for me to trust I'll receive the refund I was verbally promised. It's been well over two weeks and I get the sense this is a scam. I informed the man today I would contact that Revdex.com and my bank if nothing was in my account. He became upset and told me he's not going to listen to my threats and ended the phone call.Desired Settlement: I want a full refund credited back to my account as promised for the continued poor service.

Response:

The complaint is only partially correct. The order was placed late in the delivery cycle for the university by the customer and consequently we were not able to make a timely delivery. Thereafter, we were able to contact the customer and made a special delivery of the unit to her dorm and as a sign of good faith in consideration offered her a full refund of her payment. As she acknowledges, she has received the refrigerator and we have processed the full refund to which she obviously complained that her refund was not timely. For the record we never said the we had 40 refunds to process, I don't know where that came from, however we do have to process the refund through our system and that does take a little time.

In summary, we did a special delivery of the unit to the dorm, we have confirmed the refund of the payment in full and apologized for the late delivery several times.

I trust you will find this acceptable.

Thank you,

Consumer

[Your Answer Here]

There is nothing about my complain that is only partially correct. I was never notified my delivery was scheduled late in the cycle or contacted to be told the fridge wasn't coming. I want it made clear that I had to call the company the next day and was told the fridge would come that night. Again, it did not and I wasn't contacted to set up an alternative. It wasn't until I sent an email that someone called me to promise the delivery and a refund. When I initially followed up on the refund, I was told it takes about two weeks. I waited well past that time frame to call again. I was in fact told they had about 40 refunds to process and these things take time. I was also told I should be happy I was given a free rental as if I was being done a favor. But at the time of the phone call my rental wasn't free because the company still had my money. They didn't offer to look into the matter any further, they only offered excuses. The attitude was that I'd get my refund when they got around to it. It's funny how that same day I filed my initial report with the Revdex.com and I received an email confirmation for my refund. Yes, I have my money, but I'm absolutely disgusted in the company's quality of customer service. I also find it ridiculous it would claim I'm making a false statement about what I was told.

Review: I rented a Cook and Cool Combo Unit from Collegiate Storage and Rental for the academic year - Order #[redacted]. Once I arrived at the dorm on 8/**/214, I discovered that the microwave provided does not work. Over the next few weeks, I continued to call the company website and left voice mails requesting follow up. I also contacted the company via their website and complained to my University. We finally received an e-mail response on 9/** that I would be contacted by a [redacted] to arrange a replacement. I continued to follow up as no call was received - on 9/** I sent another e-mail requesting a full refund for this defective product. Collegiate storage and rental replied saying that if I wanted a refund, $150 would be refunded. I paid a total of $272.18 (cost breakout below) and expect to be refunded the entire amount. The product provided is defective and has not worked since Day 1. In addition to that, I've dealt with a lot of frustration trying to contact the company and get resolution.

Products Subtotal: $250.00

Delivery: $0.00

Subtotal excluding taxes: $250.00

NYC: $22.18

------

Total for this Order: $272.18Desired Settlement: At this point, I no longer wish to give my business to Collegiate Storage and Rental. I would like to be issued a full refund of $272.18 and would like them to pick up this microwave/fridge combo as soon as possible.

This response further goes to show that this business is not able to manage customer responses. My name is not [redacted] and no one has reached out to me to discuss the issue. I am really happy with my decision to store my appliances with Collegiate Storage and Rental! When I needed my things back they delivered everything on time and were super friendly!

Review: This business takes advantage of college students, promising to deliver a refrigerator and then failing to. After paying $65 on September [redacted] 2013, this business said they would deliver my refrigerator on September [redacted] 2013, but never showed up. I called their number at least ten times over the next five days, leaving numerous voice mails and one email, but they never responded. On the sixth day, finally someone answered. He did not apologize for failing to deliver the refrigerator nor did he explain why. Instead he was rude, dismissive and did not apologize. He did promise however to deliver the refrigerator that night, but once again did not show up. When I called the next day he was again rude and did not see anything wrong with failing to deliver the refrigerator. Instead he said, I can try to get it to you tomorrow. I declined and demanded my money back to which he responded "call back tomorrow". I have not gotten my money back so far and I cannot imagine how many other college students they have scammed.Desired Settlement: Please, please this business needs to be shut down. I have heard numerous other stories from students who were also scammed by them.

Response:

Though the delivery date was missed due to a mechanical failure of one of our delivery vehicles. We did attempt to reach the customer to reschedule without success.

Upon receipt of the complaint the President of our company attempted to contact the customer on three separate occasions, again without success. A voice-mail was left in which we stated that a full refund was being credited to the credit card and we also offered, in consideration of the inconvenience, to provide a refrigerator to the customer at no cost. To which there was no response. In fact, a full refund was issued.

We regret the inconvenience to the customer.

I could not be happier to have rented a mini fridge from Collegiate. My fridge was already waiting for me in my dorm room when I moved in. The fridge was clean and came complete with its own ice trays. I was even left with a special surprise of RedBulls inside. I also love being able to have a microwave attached to the fridge since I no longer have to leave my room to heat up food like I had to last year. This company has gone above and beyond my expectations and I would 100% recommend renting a fridge from them!

Extremely easy storage. They came and picked my storage at the specified time and dropped them off to my sons room before he even moved in! I rented a fridge for his room and that was also there before he moved in. Absolutely recommend this company to anyone in the New York City area. [redacted]

Review: At the end of the spring 2014 semester, I stored a refrigerator, microwave, and trunk with them. We had agreed on a delivery date of September *, sometime between 6-10 pm. That night, I got a call saying the truck had been towed and was in an impound lot, but that my stuff would be delivered tomorrow (the [redacted]), in the same time window. It sucked, but I was okay with that; stuff happens. I called to try and confirm the dropoff the next day, and got no answer at the company. I called the number of "the boss" who'd called me the night before about the towing, and he once again confirmed that my stuff would be dropped off. I waited in my dorm until 10 that night, and gave him a call, at which point he told me all the trucks were running behind schedule, and that they'd be delivering until midnight. I kept waiting, didn't receive anything, and called back at 12, at which point he'd shut his phone off. The next day (the [redacted]) I called the company to no avail, and then "the boss" again. He picked up, said that the trucks the night before had gotten pulled over by cops and searched(???) and that my stuff would definitely be here that night. IT WASN'T. Finally, on the [redacted], I got somebody on the phone for the first time at the office, and got a delivery time promised to me. My trunk came that night, but NOT my refrigerator or microwave. The next day, my refrigerator came, but still no microwave, and on top of that, the fridge was scratched up and has a big dent in the front of the door. It is now the [redacted], and I still don't have my microwave.

I slept on a bare mattress and drip-dried for four days because my sheets, towels, and so much more were in that trunk. I've called probably two dozen times in total over the week, and received an answer from their office only twice. They've made me waste 20 hours siting in my dorm for them to possibly deliver my stuff that could have been better spent elsewhere. There are multiple stories of similar things happening on Revdex.com and on [redacted], and it's unacceptable.Desired Settlement: I held up my end of this deal, paying them up front to store my stuff, and being in the proper places at the proper times to drop off and receive it, and they've ignored their responsibilities with amazing gusto. I'd like a full refund for what they've put me through, and I'd still like my microwave.

The bottom line is that these sorts of things shouldn't happen in the first place. Even if I'm refunded, I'm still going to be irked by the cat and mouse game they put me through. They didn't answer my calls and downright lied to my face.
