Improperly installed new HVAC system. Cost customer increased operating costs, continued refrigerant replenishing and an eventual $1200 repair. In December 17, 2009 we had Collier Heat and Air install a new Trane HVAC system for the downstairs of our house. (Heat Pump Serial [redacted] Air Handler Serial #XXXXX[redacted]) Over the next year, the system froze up, leaked and caused our electric bill to go up substantially. After one year of us patiently making calls to [redacted] and the company's techs coming out and saying they could not find the leak, Collier Heat and Air then walked away from the unit. After continued years of adding refrigerant to the system, we called [redacted] to discover the equipment was under warranty, but if we didn't address the leak, we could have to replace the entire system again at our cost. We hired a company that promptly found the leak. They documented that it was due to improper installation, because tube location was such that abrasion was happening during operation. Repair labor was $1200, but parts should be under warranty. Wrote a letter to Collier Heat and Air prior to having repair done asking to please complete repair work since it was due to faulty installation. No response.Desired SettlementSince they denied the opportunity to do the work, we would like reimbursement for the $1200 repair.Business Response While we regret that the customer has experienced an issue with the equipment that was installed four years ago, we are happy to hear that the manufacturer of the equipment is providing them with a replacement part. Our companies view is that the part in question is an internal functional part of the equipment covered by the manufacturer's warranty and the failure was not installation related. Final Consumer Response Our complaint stands. Collier Heat & Air walked away from the unit and us. Although we have documentation that the problems were installation related, the company should have stood behind their work and fixed the unit while labor was under warranty - during the first year when problems were evident. The result was years of increased operational cost, refrigerant cost, and an ultimate out-of-warranty labor repair cost of $1200.Our only goal is to do our part as a consumer and give an honest review of the company. As long as our complaint is formally recorded, we are satisfied.
