Review: I own a 1990 Chevrolet Cavlier, it towed to [redacted] auto approximatelty on the 17th of November 2014.I was called by [redacted] Mechanic stating, the starter was broke, and needed plugs and plug wires and a brake line splice. The car started, but would not stay running.THe starter was considerd broke since it had a broken bolt.I was never told how much any parts would be and that they where marked up40%. I paid 327.00$ on November 25 2014 picked up my car, it stalled 4 times bringing it home had to pull over, brakes where mushy. I got home, took it to [redacted] in [redacted] where they spliced another brake line, and bled them.I have had continual problems with my car. I took it to [redacted] in [redacted] on March 16 2015, where I was informed the problem was a coil and the starter was broken again. The Mechanic that worked on my car at [redacted] has since been fired and he felt he had no obligation to fix these issues. He and I had several heated discussions, I wanted my 327.00 since he did not fix the problem to start with, all parts are from [redacted] in his name. I paid 150.00 for a starter, wires 25.95, brake line 11.47. brake fluid 3.50, starter bolts 6.06.Labor 100.00.I did not want my car taken back to [redacted] for any repairs, he insisted as if it where his vehicle, he also said my car was red it is blue.I can not get the starter repaired since it is in his name and warranty also, thou I paid for it.I have tried and my husband has tried to talk to this man, he actually told my husband he had to bring my car back to him. This has gone on for2 weeks.I don't understand how I paid for parts that are still in his name.He has changed stories so many time, he talked to the mechanic at [redacted] This starter has 3 year warranty, but he fixed it where I have to come back to him. THis I feel is against my rights, as a consumer.I called confederated auto parts my plugs where 13.06 but he charged me 30.00 for 4 plugs. I also had to replace the plug wires.Desired Settlement: I feel since [redacted] mechanic did not do the right job and I paid for these parts I want reimbursed, $327.00

Response:

We repaired Mrs. [redacted]'s plugs, wires, brake lines, and starter on her 1990 Chevrolet car in November 2014. Ireceived a call from her in March 2015 during the call she stated we had put the wrong plugs and wires on her carand her starter was broken. I immediately told Mrs. [redacted] we would come and pick her car up and bring it backto our garage and check it to see what the problem was and if ¡t was anything we had done incorrectly we wouldrepair it.Mrs. [redacted] told me that she did not want us to check her car at all and that the wanted her $327.00 back. Iexplained to her that it had been three months since we performed repairs on her vehicle and that we would notrefund any money without first checking her car to see if it was something we did improperly and in that case wewould gladly replace the parts. She then told me that something was wrong with her brakes the day she picked hercar up from our garage in November. My reply to her accusations was why didn't she bring the car back to us that day and say something is wrong andlet us checked it out. Mrs. [redacted] did not reply to that question. However, she stated that she took the car toanother garage and had the brake line repaired. I ask her to bring me the receipts from the other garage thatsupposedly fixed the brake line; she never brought me any receipts. She told me the name of the mechanic in [redacted] that had told her that her plugs and wires were wrong andher starter was broken; I called the garage and talked to the mechanic and he told me a different story. Themechanic stated that he did not tell her that her plugs and wires were wrong. He stated that he told her that shehad a bad coil pack which is a totally different repair than the plugs and wires. The mechanic stated that one of herplug wire boots had a small slice in it and that she may want to replace them. The mechanic also stated that herstarter was not broken; however, a bolt had worked loose and had damaged the corner of the starter. He statedthat he tightened the bolt and put a new coil pack on the car and she drove it away.I offered Mrs. [redacted] a new starter since the mechanic said that the loose bolt had damaged the corner of thestarter. She again stated that she did not want us to work on her car. Therefore, I offered to take the starter to thegarage in [redacted] and pay for the labor for them to put it on; she told me that she wanted her $327.00 backinstead.A couple days later she called me and said that she wanted her starter end she wanted it tomorrow. I told her Iwould get her starter and that she could come by and get it anytime. She called me a name and hung up on me.she never came to pick up the part.I have been in the service business for sixteen years by doing quality work at competitive prices and doing theright thing to keep customers satisfied and happy with our work.Sincerely,[redacted]

Response:

I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

I should not have to give Mr [redacted] receipts for any work, I will pass the letter to the mechanic that stated the starter was broken. I was told by one mechanic and auto parts store if the bolt is out the starter is broken and needs replaced. The bolt should of never came out if the job was done correctly by [redacted] Auto, the bolt would not tighten, since it was half on and cross threaded. Mr [redacted] admitted he didn't fix the car since it needed a coil.I did offer to let him inspect the starter, but did not want any more work done by him. In order to keep my warranty on the starter, I was told the parts I paid him for where in his name and I had to let him work on my car. This is monopolization by him to keep business, and since I paid for these parts they should be in my name. I have never had a business put parts in their name. I feel cheated and that my parts where stolen since I paid for all of them. My rights walked on, since I supposedly have no choice but let him work on the car. He has made many false statements by phone and to you to keep his $327.00. He admitted he would loose much business over this. How would any one feel paying what I did for parts to find they are in the mechanics name, and they leave you no freedom of choice to take your vehicle to another mechanic. Not good business. Since the parts are in his name I would like my money back so I will have a warranty, and can have another mechanic replace the starter, I have already paid for new wires and plugs, and that labor. I have had no other issues since the coil was replaced, I live on limited income and so does my 77 year old husband. He has taken advantage of us. I have witnesses to the problems I still had after he supposedly fixed the car. If my car had been test driven after the work was done none of this would of come up, but it never was. I got in the car in the bay after paying and drove off, thinking it was fixed.
