Colon and Rectal Medical Group of San Diego Reviews (1)

Review: Dr. [redacted] collected $250 in advance for my deductible to perform a surgery. This was in error because the $250 was owed to the hospital who submitted its claim first. Two months has past and I have not received a refund of the $250 that the hospital is owed. Dr. [redacted] was paid in full by my insurance. The biller he uses hung up on me and would not give me a time frame of when I would see the refund. His office also tried to have me pay copays when they were not owed. Dr. [redacted] will not address billing issues I have been told.Desired Settlement: I would like a $250 refund.

Response:

Dear [redacted];

This e-mail correspondence is in reference to your letter dated July 3, 2013; regarding the above mentioned ID [redacted].

On March 27, 2013 Mr. [redacted] came to Dr [redacted]’s office for his initial visit, at that time we verified his insurance eligibility and was advised by his insurance company that he had a $30.00 office co-pay; collectible at the time of service and a $250.00 deductible for any surgical procedures performed. On March 27, 2013 Mr. [redacted] was seen by Dr. [redacted] and we collected the $30.00 co-payment per insurance verification. Mr. [redacted] was scheduled for two surgical procedures to be performed on April 10 and 11, 2013. We advised Mr. [redacted] that the $250.00 deductible would be required prior to Dr. [redacted] preforming the procedures as per his insurance verification. On April 1, 2013 Mr. [redacted] paid our office the $250.00 deductible as required for his procedure. The first procedure was performed on April 10, 2013 with a charge amount of $1,100.00 and the second procedure was performed on April 11, 2013 with a charge amount of $1,970.00; both procedures were submitted to Mr. [redacted]’s insurance company for reimbursement.

On May 15, 2013 Mr. [redacted] insurance company adjudicated his claims and made payment to Dr [redacted]; the payment was received into our office on May 24, 2013. Mr. [redacted] was advised that once the payment was posted into the computer a refund would be issued. He was also advised that the payments received during the month of May 2013 would be posted by May 31, 2013 and he would be issued a refund. This response was not satisfactory to Mr. [redacted] therefore he took action and filed his Revdex.com complaint. On June 3, 2013 we issued a refund to Mr. [redacted] in the amount of $250.00.

Dr [redacted]’s office policy states that insurance is verified for each patient and any outstanding deductible or co-payments are collected at the time of service; it also further states that once your claims are adjudicated by a patients insurance company and posted into the practice management system, if a refund is due it will be promptly refunded.

In this case Mr. [redacted] has received a full refund as stated by our office policy. Please contact Mr. [redacted] and verify that his refund has been received. We can also provide your office with proof of refund if you require such documentation. We also request that any negative reports be removed from Dr. [redacted]’s office profile.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Regards,

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

I was refunded the $250 dollars but many of the facts presented by the business are falsified. I was never told I would definitely be getting a refund or when (if) it would happen. The customer service was horrendous. The woman who responded, [redacted], hung up on me when I was trying to get the information she allegedly gave me. That is after a few days of not being called back.

Anyway, the part of the business' response I do not accept are the facts as well as the request to have this complaint removed. The office utilizes 'shady' practices and it definitely needs to be noted. Another customer with a surgery around the same time as mine posted a eerily similar complaint on [redacted], so I am sure my situation is not isolated.

Regards,
