Colonial Generators installed a back up generator at my house last spring, and sold me a $1500 7 year service warranty that included required annual service. It is now time for that service, and their phone number is disconnected.

I'd l;ike to get the guaranterede service, or alternately hav e my money returned.

Colonial Generators Response • May 29, 2020

Dear Revdex.com,

The annual service plan purchased by the customer has been assumed by a 3rd party company named *** of Florida, LLC of which Colonial Generators will be direct billed. There will be no additional cost to customer and *** will receive the same services which were originally contracted. Accordingly, we consider this matter fully resolved and customer made whole. In the event the customer has not yet been contacted by a representative from *** to schedule the service, then the customer should feel free to reach out to them directly.

The phone number of *** of Florida is .

I recently went to a company called Colonial Generators to install a Whole Home Generator back in September 2019. an estimate was done by them as well as three other firms. I went with colonial. the VA is helping me pay for part of this. I received a partial payment from the VA and forwarded this to the company. It was not a deposit. I paid them so that the amount financed for the 18 months would be less.I haven't heard from them since and have been attempting to contact them for a refund. They did not do any work at all. I even contacted their headquarters in PA with no success. the amount I sent them was $3400. I need to know why they are not refunding my money since they seem to have no intentions of installing the generator. It's been since September 2019 when I first contacted them. They cashed my check knowing that they would keep it. I think this is criminal behavior
There has been no communication with the company to help me

My husband *** and I bought the generator on December 12 2017. Installation was never completed. We have a trench in the yard waiting for electrical completion. Propane was never installed. I suppose the first big problem was a call from electrical installer who said the permits were not right. After that returned calls from Colonial Generator in Sanford FL was nonexistent. I called Hillsborough county and the lady said there was not any notation of a problem and the permits had been approved. We really need this generator to keep batteries in stair lift from draining in power outages. That could keep medically disabled husband from exiting the house in an emergency. That bit of info didn't inspire them to finish the job.I cant trust them anymore and would really like refund so We can buy else where. We have called many times only to be told we will get right on it. There was never a return call after the second large payment.

Subject: Failure to honor installation / generator service contract by Colonial Generators (CG):

In 2018, my wife and I had a 22KW *** Generator installed by CG. The ratified contract states that the first year of maintenance is included in the contract. (Copy available to the Revdex.com upon request.)

For approximately three months, I have been attempting to contact CG to schedule this maintenance with no success.

CG has / had a Sanford FL address (417 Central Park Drive, Sanford FL 32771) The office number I have for the Sanford office is : , which is the number I tried for the first several weeks. Each time I called, the number was busy. Emails to my points of contact in the Sanford office were not responded to.

I then contacted the CG Pennsylvania office seeking assistance by calling . I did speak to a representative at this office who informed me that the Sanford office was having telephone issues and that they expected the Sanford office to be back and running in a few weeks. The CG representative did indicate that she would email the Sanford office on my behalf and that someone would be contacting me to schedule the maintenance. Two weeks or so went by with no response from CG. I called the Sanford office and received only a busy signal. I again called the PA office and was advised that the telephone issues were continuing in Sanford. The representative agreed to send a second email to Sanford on my behalf to schedule the maintenance, but would not cc me on this email despite my request. Unfortunately, I have yet to back from CG.

After making 9 additional and documented telephone calls to CG PA office with no response (despite the fact that I had left messages), and recognizing the need to have the yearly maintenance actually performed, I contacted another vendor and had the required maintenance performed. However, due to the failure of CG to meet its contractual obligations, I have paid twice for the yearly maintenance.

Revdex.com:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID. Assuming that the vendor follows through on its commitment to issue a refund on 3 January 2020, I find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

If the refund will be coming in the form a check, I ask that the check be made out to *** and that it be mailed to me at *** Melbourne FL ***.

f the refund will be provided as a refund to the *** credit card I used to pay for the generator, I ask that I be informed that I should look for the refund on my *** statement.

Regards and thank you all for your assistance in this matter.

New install from the Sanford FL office without issue. System is fine. The Sanford office is contracted to perform the first year maint on the unit inclusive with the purchase. I have contacted the main office in Prussia and they said they forwarded my request to the Sanford office. It has been a couple of weeks now and no contact from anyone. I dug around for the direct dial number for Sanford office and it is now dead. My only option is to work through the Prussia office which is getting me nowhere. Colonial seems to have some serious service communication issues. I would like to have my 22kw gen serviced as promised but am getting 0 action from anyone at Colonial. Shame

Vendor failed to acknowledge a key provision of our contract with the manufacturer. Our warranty has not been validated with the manufacturer even after 16 months following the installation.

Customer Response • Dec 03, 2019

I am pleased to inform you that the complaint referenced has been resolved. I received correspondence from the vendor late last week and a follow up phone call today from Colonial Generators. As of now, everything seems to be in order although I think that the Revdex.com getting involved was helpful. If there is anything else I need to do, please let me know.

I had a whole house generator installed a year ago. It never passed the electrical inspection. We have called dozens of times and can't get Colonial Generators to come out and fix the problem.

Colonial Generators Response • Oct 23, 2019

Please be advised we have in been contact with the customer and had a technician go to the customer's property to address and fix the issues raised by the electrical inspector. At this point we believe all fixes have been made in compliance and are merely awaiting scheduling of the reinspection. We have been working directly with customer in good faith and have provided the performed repairs/fixes at no cost. If any future issues are raised at reinspection we will continue to work directly with the customer.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!! I gave them one star only because they didn’t allow zero stars! I signed a contract and gave them a 50% payment. They did not start work until May and that was installing the generator and partial electrical. They told me it took so long because they had to wait for the permits, that was a lie because I checked the Orange County site a it was issued a month and a half before they told me it was issued. The customer service well there isn’t any!!! They would see my number come up and would not answer the phone or return my call when I left a message. The next hurdle was getting the gas hooked up. This should have been a half hour job. The gas hook up was there because my pool hookup is right next to the generator. They gas me the same excuse that they were waiting for the permit to be issued of course another lie, I checked and they had received it 2 months prior. The real reason was they owed the gas installers money for past work and wouldn’t work for them until they paid. I was relentless I called they office and salesman every day. I sent emails to the head office telling them I was prepared to take this further that my brother is an attorney and it would cost me nothing to sue them. They regional manager was another lire who said call me any time and if I can’t answer I will call you back we’ll that never happened! Of course hurricane season was on us and still no working generator. Finally August it was completed. The generator is great they company terrible.

I have had nothing but problems dealing with the Colonial Generator Central Florida Branch in Sanford FL. I have done everything I was required to do. I gave the Sales Manager Erik F my deposit of 7337.00 dollars. I notified him when my gas line / meter was installed but yet I have had nothing but problems with this sales person and techs. The tech arrived 3 weeks ago and he requested the balance due before they installed the generator. I told him my understanding was that I pay 50% down as deposit which I did, then 40% when the generator was installed and the 10% balance when the generator was up and running. This was verified with the Colonial Generator store scheduler. I asked him, where the automatic transfer switch would be located? He said right next to the power meter. I then asked him when he would be replacing my existing 100 amp panel which is from 1964? He said he was not here to do that and that was not on his work order. I brought my copy of the agreement out and pointed out where Colonial was to replace my 100 amp panel. He then said he didn't have the parts to do the job and that it would take 2 days to install everything.

There has been a total lack of communication between Colonial Generator Sanford and myself as well as their own staff and techs. I was also in constant contact with the City of Titusville asking about the status of the permits. They said they did not receive the correct paperwork. I then finally got in touch with the Sanford store Scheduler who said they were waiting on me to notify them that my gas meter was installed. I told her that I had informed my sales manager over a month ago that my gas line was connected but he failed to inform anyone.

I have also asked for an updated proposal since the one I signed is no longer accurate but I have not seen or heard anything from Colonial Sanford. I have pretty much lost faith in this store and it's employees and do not want them to have anything to do with my electrical system. They just can't be trusted.

Colonial Generators Response • Sep 30, 2019

Dear Revdex.com,

Our Florida manager was in contact with this customer today (9/30/2019) over the telephone and the customer is back in agreement with allowing Colonial Generators the opportunity to complete the work per the contract. This will include replacement of the 100amp panel which customer was referring to in his dispute, and was the source of the confusion and reason for delay by the merchant.

Customer communicated they are willing to allow Generators to proceed so long as there is an assurance that all work is completed next month. We anticipate no further issues with this project and will be able to meet customer's parameters.

I purchased a service contract from the general manager with Colonial Generator. I have attempted to have the company perform routine annual service per their service contract. I was able to contact the general manager to schedule the annual service. Initially he said that he would get back with me to schedule the service, but he has since stopped answering the phone. I have attempted to call the local office in *** and left a message. I have called the home office in *** and left a message, as no one will answer the phone or return the call. It has been over a month since my first conversation with the general manager of Colonial Generator.

DON'T USE THEM! Terrible company to do business with! It's been almost a year since our 4 generators at different locations were installed and they were paid in full, however they have NOT paid the propane company for their fees! Result our company is on a pre-pay basis!

Cannot get my generator repaired that has been paid in full. During the first contracted service call, the tech found a blown switch. Twice a new switch has been put into place and twice blown. Another company was called in to trouble shoot and they found a wire was installed incorrectly and charged me a service fee, its under warranty. I am still waiting the refund of the service and the repair to my generator that was purchased incase of hurricane power losses.

Colonial Generators Response • Sep 16, 2019

Dear Revdex.com,

Please be advised the customer was improperly charged a service fee for the warranty work from the 3rd party service provider assigned by ***. *** will be providing a direct reimbursement to customer for the $129.95. In addition, Colonial Generators was out to the customers home last week and the a replacement part is on order and expected to arrive within next 2 weeks. Upon it's arrival, Colonial Generators will be performing the remedial work at no cost to customer. The Company will continue to keep customer informed of the status as to the scheduling of the repair work.

I want to bring to Revdex.com's attention regarding Colonial Generators' poor customer service.

Our generator lost Internet connection two+ weeks ago, I called Colonial Generator on 2/14 for help. After three calls to their general number , Mr. Chris C called me back and resolved the connection issue. While on the phone with Chris, I realized that our unit was serviced in May, 2017 and would benefit from another oil change and service. So we set an appointment for this service to be done at noon on 2/19. No one showed up or called us on 2/19. This was rude! We called them three more times afterwards including calling Chris’ cell phone directly. His voice box was full. No one called us back to make such appointment yet.

Their lack of interest to serve their generator customers makes us feel uneasy. They may eventually call us back and provide the service. But we don’t feel comfortable to work with them anymore. We want to bring this to Revdex.com's attention and to alert other Colonial Generators customers in case someone else have similar experiences with this company.

Contacted on April 25th, 2018 regarding a defective component (***). Was told that the defective component was back ordered and that a new version would be available in June 2018. The representative indicated they would contact me to set up an installation as soon as it was received. Business never contacted me in June so in July I contacted them and was told that I would be contacted for an install. The beginning of August I contacted them and was told they would receive them any day and would contact me to install. On the 20th of August 2018 they indicated that they had the replacement and would be out to install on the 21st of August 2018. On the 22nd of August 2018 I contacted them about the "no show" and was told once again that I would be contacted to set up an installation. The system has been broken for over 4 months and I have not gotten an repair committment.
