Colonial Motors, Inc. Reviews (2)

Review: On September 3rd 2014 I [redacted] contacted by telephone the sales person ([redacted]) in regards to a vehicle Colonial Motors had for sale. The vehicle was a 2001 Ford f-350 (vin#[redacted] I specifically asked if the vehicle had clear title and that the title was in possession of the dealership because I needed the Title and permanent one year tag on the same day I paid them the cash money and picked up the vehicle because I was moving to Florida and I would be reselling this vehicle because the only reason I was purchasing it was to haul a trailer to Florida and that I would immediately be selling the vehicle when I arrived at my new home in Florida. I specifically told the sales person [redacted] that if they did not have the Title the day I took the vehicle from the dealership I would not purchase it I would buy a vehicle from a private owner that had clear title in hand and that is when [redacted] assured me I would receive my Title. I then went directly to the dealership and took the vehicle for a test ride I then decided to purchase the vehicle with the only stipulation that I pay $3,600.00 in cash and I receive the Title upon the dealership receiving my cash monies. After signing all the required documentation the dealer presented to me and giving the sales person [redacted] my monies I was told to come back to the dealership to receive my Title and tags in which I was charged an additional $195.00 in cash for the Documentation fee. I returned the next day on September 4th 2014 to pickup the vehicle, the title and one year permanent tag I was told I would receive only to be told that I would get a temporary tag and that the Department of Motor vehicles would some day do the Title and tag work and then I would receive them. This was a very deceptive sale from Colonial Motors by making false statements and causing me great distress and mental anguish as I now have to wait for my Title and tags and I must spend my time and monies to travel back to their dealership to retrieve the title and tag and wonder when and if this is going to happen prior to me leaving to Florida! Florida law states I have ten days to register my vehicle when I arrive in Florida at my new residence but I don't want to register I want to sell it immediately.!! The sales person and the dealership are very unethical, unprofessional. conniving, deceitful in the way they do business. I need this issue immediately resolved and hope this complaint will resolve it without further action including but not limited to filing a charge with the Attorney Generals office and lawsuit against the President of Colonial motors ([redacted].Desired Settlement: Immediately receive my Title and tag or a full refund of the purchase price plus other monies that I have put into the vehicle for repairs.

Response:

Mr. [redacted] did purchase a vehicle from our dealership 9/3/2014. It is not a common practice of ours to promise titles to customers the day of purchase unless we are absolutely sure that the title is in our possession. The fact that the title was an out of state title and that it needed to pass Delaware inspection is another reason we would not guarantee title and tags on a specific date. We did take care of the inspection as that is part of the process needed to transfer a vehicle into a customer's name. Mr. [redacted] was tofd by Mr. [redacted] that he would need the title by the 21st of September. This vehicle was bought from another local dealership. Once the title clerk was notified that the title was needed as soon as possible a call was put in to that dealership expressing the urgency in receiving the title. Mr. [redacted] was then notified that he'd receive his title and tags before he left to go to Florida. Mr. [redacted] has since then received his tag and title. The completed paperwork was given to him on the 19th of September before he left to go to Florida so the issue has been resolved

Response:

This letter is in reference to the complaint number listed above. On 9/29/2014 Ms. [redacted] and her son signed a legal contract on the purchase of a vehicle from our company. Ms. [redacted] singed the contract as a co-buyer. In the event that the vehicle was repossessed both parties are financially responsible for this debt. However, we are not the ones reporting to the credit bureau their contract was financed by an outside company. Ms. [redacted] would need to contact the finance company to dispute this matter as that company is the one reportingthe debt
