Colonial Optical Reviews (2)

Review: I had my glasses adjusted at Colonial Optical this morning. After wearing them for an hour or so after returning home, they were pinching my nose. I looked into my magnifying mirror and saw that both my lens were cracked. I returned to Colonial Optical and showed them my glasses and the attendant said he didn't remember doing that. I told him they weren't cracked when I took them in for adjustment. He said he would have to charge me $90.00 to fix them. I think this is absurd and unfair since he definitely cracked my lens when he adjusted my frames. What is my recourse in a matter like this?Desired Settlement: I would like the lens replaced at no cost to me. If I need to have them replaced before this matter is settled, I would want Colonial Optical to pay the cost of the replacement lens.

Response:

Regarding your letter dated July 26, 2013, the customer has never purchased a pair ofglasses from Colonial Optical. Sixteen years ago we made lenses to set in her existing frame on November 17, 1997. We have provided free adjustments frequently since then and we were aware we had not made her glasses since 1997. Our staff and our shop employees have been with Colonial for a minimum of thirty years each. If one of our opticians accidentally breaks or damages a frame or lenses; we tell the patient immediately, and without fail we replace the frame or lenses for that patient. Our shop foreman and benchman examined the lenses the patient claimed our optician had broken; and stated that the adjustment could not have caused the stress cracks he observed on the lenses. Stress cracks come from improper inserting in the frame and sometimes do not show up immediately after purchase. Therefore, we do not feel a responsibilty to replace the lenses for the patient. Colonial Optical has been doing business in Harrisonburg for 68 years. If we had not treated our patients fairly for all this time we wouldn't be in business today. Response:

I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. I am sure that Colonial Optical is not going to pay for having my glasses repaired but I just want you to know that I am aware that they cracked my lens when they adjusted my glasses (which has nothing to do with where I purchased my glasses). Both lens were cracked and there is no way I could have caused these cracks. It was evident that the adjustment to the frames was so severe as to cause the cracks. I am just so disappointed that they can lie about the situation and cause me to pay for this repair. It's just not right but I realize there is nothing I can do about this. I am a retired person on a fixed income and this is a real hardship for me. But that is neither here nor there. It is a real shame that they can get away with this. I just hope they haven't done the same to other unsuspecting folks. Regards,[redacted]

Review: I brought a pair of prescription glasses from colonial optical about 3weeks ago. I have not been able to get them adjusted correctly. I have been there 5 times. I get headaches all time when I wear them do to pressure around the ears. I have ask what there policy was if they could not be fixed correctly. I was told I could get a refund. I called [redacted] who I was told was the owner. She said she would take care of it and pull my file. I went there she wasn't there. They had to call her and told me there was a 25 percent restock fee. I never was told that nor was I given any paper saying this that I read. I live 50 miles away at my parents farm while I am visiting Va. I live in Co. I have to get another pair of glasses elsewhere asap before I go home. I would like a full refund. I have not been satisfied with these glasses at all. Never were fitted correctly.

Thank you [redacted]Desired Settlement: Full refund in cash so I may purchase glasses else where. I paid in cash and I don't have a bank here.

Business replaced her glasses, she needed no more adjustments and seemed happy.
