I am writing in
response to the above stated complaintI am going to summarize my experience
with Mrs*** *** and her home improvement
project
On October 3,
I gave Mrs*** an estimate to demo and replace her existing driveway
due to cracks and the fact that the concrete settled next to the garage door
She signed the estimate and I began the work on October 9, with the
demolition of the existing driveway and setup for the new one to be pouredOn
October 10, I finished setting up, replaced the block under the garage
floor, and poured the concrete driveway with bag low chert, wire mesh, rebar,
used expansion and CS-309-Non-Yellowing Acrylic Curing and Sealing Compound
for protection of concreteThe entire process went very smoothly and I was
very happy with the resultsWhen Mrs*** came outside to view the finished
product she was very happy as well and commented that the driveway looked
beautifulAfter Mrs*** paid her remaining balance I instructed her not to
drive on the concrete for at least seven days and not to use salt on her
driveway for the first year
In January I
received a call from Mrs*** stating that patches of the concrete were
crumblingBased on her description over the phone my initial thought was that
some falling leaves may have gotten mixed into the concreteI told her that I
would be by when the snow and ice had melted and I could thoroughly evaluate
the areas of concern
At the end of
March I went to Mrs***’s home to address her concernsThere were very
large areas of the driveway that had appeared corrodedI instantly informed
Mrs*** that this much damage was not caused by falling leavesIt appeared
to me that the surface was damaged by saltWhen I asked Mrs*** if she had
used salt to melt her ice over the winter she said noAt this point my last
thought was possibly defective concreteI immediately called the owner of
Gleason Redi-Mix Incand spoke to the owner *** to arrange a meeting
The meeting was
set between Mrs***, her son, myself and *** from Gleason Redi-Mix***
looked at the driveway and asked if Mrs*** had been using salt this past
winter on the new concreteMrs*** explained that she has a handicapped
daughter and needed to salt the driveway to ensure her daughters safely down
the driveway to and from the bus each day*** offered to test the salt
content in the damaged areas of the concreteHe informed us that it would be
difficult to obtain an accurate result given the length of time since she last
salted her drivewayAt this time ***, Mrs*** and I discussed replacing
the drivewayI offered to replace the driveway with no charge for labor but
would have to charge for materials and demolition*** offered the concrete
at costMrs*** explained she could not afford this option
About two weeks
later I called *** for the resultsHe indicated that the results showed
traces of salt in the concreteHe also confirmed that the correct concrete was
delivered to Mrs***’s homeI called Mrs*** and reiterated what ***
had told meMrs*** explained that she did not trust *** as a person
because he could not look her in the eye and believes the concrete was
defective. When I asked Mrs*** what
she would like me to do she told me she was going to file a complaintI later
received the complaint in the mail
I empathize with
Mrs*** and would like to see this issue resolved where all parties are
