Review: On the date of service I had gone in for a physical and discussed things like you normally would at a physical. Got blood work done as well. a few months later I received a bill for visit and it wasn't coded for a physical so my medical insurance did not cover all of it. Than out of the blue I had gotten a phone call while I was work from Columbia medical and before they would dicuss why they called they wanted my social number address and everything. I asked if I could my wife call back to make sure they were who they say they were and the billing department got really rude with me. Once my wife called and verified, she explained that we needed to make a payment. My wife explained that the visit was a physical and wasn't coded right. The billing department said they'd investigate it and ended up sending us a second bill a month later for the same date of service with it coded differently. This time it was under a physical and we owed more money. So, my wife called the insurance to make sure if it went through them yet and it had not. so, she called Columbia medical back and asked why I got two bills for the same date of service with two different amounts and the second one was not submitted to the insurance. My wife asked why it had not been sent to the insurance. She had got told it was against the law for them to change the codes without the doctor telling them to. so than she asked why the codes were changed than and all my wife got in return was attitude. Columbia medical would not explain why the codes were changed. the only thing they would say is they were changing them back to the original codes and that we were stuck paying them. would not explain there actions or anything. the only reason they would give was its against the law to change the coding. My question that I still have is Why change it in the first place than. The bill ended up going to collection and after months of confusion. I ended up paying the bill so it wouldn't effect our credit score too bad.Desired Settlement: If this be the only thing. For them to realize that they can't randomly change codes at their will and not have any reason for doing so. If its against the law than don't do it. An apology would be nice.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

I still yet have a reason to why they changed the coding with it being against the law for them to do so without the doctors orders. As well as the way they told me that I have to just deal with is very unprofessional. I would like to have others know how that doctors office is ran. I have proof to show that they changed the codes and never submitted to my insurance.
