The customer came into our shop on 10/11/2016 at 3:45 pm. The store closes at 4:00 pm. He inquired about the Silent Auction process and I asked what he was biddding on. He said the drum set. I told him that I also was bidding on that for someone else. I told him him it stops at 4 pm and I waited for...

him to add $1 to the last bid of $21. He didn't so I had to continue waiting on other customers. Finally when I was finished I went to the book to add another $1 bid and he informed me that he was the last name at $22 and pulled out his cell and it read 4:01. I showed him our store clock and said it is 3:59 and there is one minute left. He argued and complained that he was the last name and I told him that I had the authority of another customer to bid to a certain amount. He countered with another dollar and so did I. After doing this several times I finally wrote $45 (that was as high as I was given permission) and he wrote $46. When I asked him if he wanted to pay now and take the drums with him he was VERY angry and said how unfair this was because HE was the last name, etc. etc. etc. Very clearly he never did this before at our shop and had no idea how this all worked. He wanted to talk to the owner, We are run by a board and the board chairman was there listening to the conversation. We are an NGO shop that gives most of our monies to an organization called [redacted] which provides relief and help all over the world, in the Name of Christ. The customer left the store angry and didn't want to pay the $46. About 10 minutes later he called the shop and wanted to talk to someone higher than me (the manager). He talked with the board chairman and complained again and said he was going to call the police. The chairman said OK!We value our customers and want them to be satisfied. I am sending him a short letter (see attachment) and hope this will make him happy, along with a $22 gift certificate to our shop.We are revising our Silent Auction rules to avoid such hassles in the future.Thank you, Sincerely,Karen B.
