Avoid this credit union at all costs!!!
I had been attempting to set up online banking to view my car loan for almost two years and when attempting to do so was met with an error screen on their page. I left multiple voicemails and emails with no response. When I finally got a hold of someone I was told that additional insurance was applied over a 24 month period without my knowledge. Resulting in thousands of dollars in additional charges. Through all of this I still can not get a response from CFU to setup online account access. Avoid this credit union at all costs!

Columbine Federal Credit Union Response • Jul 09, 2020

We are sorry that this individual has had issues getting online with us. We have contacted them and have gotten them all set up with online banking.

In October of 2017, I engaged Columbine Federal Credit union to act as the arbiter of my car loan. I took approximately $10,000 in credit out to buy out the lease of my vehicle. After all of the paperwork was complete, I agreed to make monthly payments of $250 a month to pay off the balance of the loan. The next month I began receiving written and threatening notifications from Columbine that I had car insurance that contained a deductible that was too high, and therefore I had to either purchase new car insurance with a lower deductible, or I would be financially penalized monthly by Columbine. I was confused because this had never been disclosed to me before this notification. Therefore, I contacted Columbine regarding this issue. After an hour on the phone and I was told that there was nothing they could do. Thus, out of sheer frustration I paid off the entire balance of the car loan to sever all ties with the company. My account was closed on January 31, 2018.

On February 5th, $250 was deducted from my checking account by Columbine. I called the bank to ask why this had happened, and they apologized and sent a check with the money owed, and claimed to have closed the account. On March 5th another $250 was withdrawn from my checking account by Columbine. I called the bank and was again apologized to and was promised that now the account was closed and that a check would be sent the following business day. It has now been two weeks, and I have yet to receive a check.

I have reviewed Ms. file and account and did notice that we did pull funds from her account after the loan was paid off. The funds were placed into Ms. savings account as the loan was paid off. Effective 4/10/2018 Ms. account was closed and a check for all remaining funds in the account have been mailed to the address we have on file. I have tried to contact Ms. on several occasions to speak to her, apologize for the funds being pulled and to make sure we have all the correct information on file but have been unsuccessful. At the time of closing a loan, insurance requirements are covered in detail and an agreement to provide insurance is signed. I have attached an agreement that Ms. did sign with us referencing that insurance was on the vehicle and that insurance would need to be maintained on the vehicle for the entire Finance Contract. Letters that are sent out are only to notify members that insurance requirements are not currently being met and that there is a possibility that forced place insurance would be added by us to cover the vehicle. I am sorry to hear that Ms. felt these insurance letters were threating and are only sent for informational purposes. I do apologize for any inconvenience this has caused Ms. as we thrive to provide great service to all our members.

Revdex.com:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me as I have (as of 4/14) received a check with the money owed to me. I might add, however, that their claim to have contacted me is false, and their attachment regarding the insurance also makes no mention regarding minimum deductible, and therefore enforces my claim that there was no documentation at time of purchase that included that there was anything wrong with the insurance that I owned. I only add this to put on the record my experience in the hope that when this happens to another person there is documentation as to a pattern in Columbine's business practices. Thank you for you assistance in this matter.
Sincerely

I have a motorcycle financed here I want to refinance at another bank but they can’t get my title right. It has been two years I feel like they’re holding me hostage and they’re racking up late charges on me all the time I would like a refund on the late charges and to have the title fixed so I can close all accounts with them

Columbine Federal Credit Union Response • Apr 13, 2018

In researching this complaint, Mr. refinanced the motorcycle out of his wife’s name, but both Mr. and his wife requested and signed paperwork to remain on the title. The purchase date of 06/18/2015 per this complaint is not the date that Mr. refinanced the loan. That date was 02/06/2016. Columbine completed our title work on 02/11/2016, 5 days after the refinance was completed. Since that date, Columbine would have released our lien on this motorcycle per normal procedure had Mr. attempted and completed a refinance of his motorcycle to another lender.

The title issue associated with this complaint was a secondary title change that Mr. requested after the initial title work was completed and is a highly unusual request. Mr. and his wife then wanted to remove her from the title work. Since Columbine had completed title work per the original loan documentation, our tracking system showed the title work step completed and did not alert us of any pending request.

Upon discovery that Mr. secondary request was not completed to his satisfaction, the Credit Union worked diligently including 3 trips to county offices, one due to Mr. failure to update his address with us, to resolve this issue. Mr. states he talked to the company on 01/10/2018. On 03/08/2018, Columbine had completed the second round of title work, at no cost to him. This complaint was launched on 04/02/2018 well after the issue was already resolved.

As for the late fees, Mr. is held to the same standard as Columbine’s other members with an active loan obligation. A title work issue does not prevent a person from making their payment on their due date or within their grace period, therefore we will not be refunding any late charges associated with this account.
