I am writing in response to Complaint ID#[redacted]. Complainant is requesting that the bill for services provided be waived. The charges in this facility are based on services provided, including diagnostic testing....

Additionally, patients are seen and charged based on acuity. Depending on the acuity level and census, a patient seeking non-emergent care may be placed in the waiting room after triage until a room becomes available.
Per the above referenced complaint, complainant felt "treated very rude by the nurse". Our facility takes all complaints very seriously with an established formal process. As such, an investigation into this matter, including speaking with the nurse involved, was followed.
Upon review of the record, complainant was seeking non-emergent care and placed in the waiting room until a room became available. A history was obtained by the triage nurse and it was recommended that complainant address concerns regarding a specific condition with the Emergency Department physician when seen. Complainant left the facility 30 minutes after arriving, prior to being seen by a physician. Per hospital policy, complainant signed a Consent for No Treatment form, which acknowledges that the patient is leaving without being seen by a doctor or nurse practitioner. This document requests that the patient sign stating they understand there will be charges for services started in the department during this visit.
A review of the bill and complaint reveals that the services provided included obtaining a chief complaint, history of present illness, vital signs, medication history, accurate weight and height, immunization status, mode of arrival, mobility upon arrival, and targeted assessment. These components of the services provided are consistent with internal hospital policies. Our charges are competitive for similar services at other area facilities within our healthcare marketplace.
The total charges billed were $75.00 and an insurance contract adjustment of $11.25 was taken off the account. This left a balance owed of $63.75.
The insurance company is showing that this is an amount owed as a co-pay amount. We have made attempts to assist complainant in the completion of a financial statement to see if complainant meets our guidelines for any further financial assistance in addressing this outstanding payment obligation, but the financial application has not been returned to Columbus Regional Hospital.
