Comfort-Air of New Bern, Inc Reviews (1)

Comfort air came to fix the heat 3 times before they told me the unit was non-repairable.My heat quit working. I used one company that tried and could not fix the issue, they told me to call comfort air. Comfort Air sent a service man out 3 times before they told me the unit was non-repairable. now they want me to pay for 3 service calls for one problem. A clogged combustion chamber was the problem and it did not clog up overnight or in between visits. I called the owner and he stated they only came out twice and the bill stands. I feel like I am paying for the training of their employees.Desired Settlementi want to pay for one service call as that is all it should have taken. Business Response On November 7, 2014 we were called out for a service call for a Mr.[redacted] located at his rental home at[redacted]. When the tech arrived the tenant was not home so we called Mr. [redacted] and he gave us his tenants number. The tenant stated she was volunteering at the library and would be home at two and asked for us to come back at that time. The service man went back at that time and he found the unit had 120 volts going through it, but there was no low voltage power to run the system. The tenant stated that the owner had an electrician friend work on the system before we arrived. That person tried to wire in a brand new igniter module which was not made for this type of system. The old module was lying on top of the unit so the tech rewired that module back to the unit. At that point he got it to fire off and run. The tech ran the system for 30 minutes checking the thermostat, wiring, gas pressures and switches. He also cleaned the burners and flame sensor. The tech did find a clogged dirty filter. This would cause the unit to not run properly. The unit was running fine when the tech left the job site. Two days later the owner called back and stated the rollout switch kept popping off which is located near the burners. The service man told Mr. [redacted] he would be charged another call and would be responsible for the parts. Mr. [redacted] then asked if he could purchase the part locally and he would put the part on himself. The service man told him to contact a supply house or come by our office to purchase the part. Mr. [redacted] then stated to tell the service man that he had replaced the part with a car fuse. The service man instructed him that was not safe and that the rollout switch pops off from the heat. We did not hear anything back from Mr. [redacted] until December 4, 2014.On December 4, 2014 Mr. [redacted] called back into the office and stated that he could not keep that system running and asked for us to come back out to the home once again. We sent the same service man and this time he found the car fuse that Mr. [redacted] installed was still in the system so the service man took that fuse out and installed and reconnected a new rollout switch. The new rollout switch was still throwing the switch every ten minutes. The service man checked the return for clogged filters, checked the coil to see if that was stopped up, and he took the exhaust stack completely apart to make sure there was no obstruction. All of these testes were to see if we were sucking and exhausting enough air. He found all testing was good and his determination was that were was a stopped up heat exchanger. At that point the service man called the office and was told to cut the unit off and pull the power off so they could not use it for safety purpose. We then contacted Mr. [redacted] to tell him of our findings. We were willing to give Mr. [redacted] a quote but we never heard back from him. Some times customers look for the cheapest way out especially on rental property. Safety comes first in our company. Consumer Response My phone records and the tenant do not agree and show 3 service calls to fix the heat. I was charged for 3 service calls. I spoke with the tech before he arrived home from the first service call and told him the heat had stopped working and the roll out switch had tripped. He told me then that I would be charged for another service call if he went back even if it is the same day. Thinking it was a faulty roll out switch I told him I would replace it myself. I placed a fuse to make the connection and make the heat work. The unit continued to not work consistently tripping the other rollout switch. The clogged combustion chamber was the problem with the unit the whole time and should have been spotted the first visit not the third. I feel like I am paying to train the tech. I have paid the bill for the service call.
