The situation was exceedingly inappropriate, as well as threatening and dangerous. As a young, small female traveling alone having strange men wander in and out of my room is entirely unacceptable, as is the reality that hotel management was handing out multiple copies of keys to different people for rooms already occupied. Additionally, the inability to fully close and lock the windows is further evidence that this business is unfit to house guests at this time, as there is no assurance that their guests are safe. Perhaps most egregiously is the flagrant disregard exhibited by the hotel for it's guests' safety by allowing the fire door, with a posted notice from the [redacted] that it be kept firmly closed, to be kept open and/or ajar.
These failures directly contradict Baymont Inn & Suites parent company, [redacted] Worldwide's "Core Values", available here: [redacted]. Furthermore, these infractions also clearly violate Hospitality Law's guarantee that hotel management and workers are required to "act prudently and use reasonable care", as well as an obligation to ensure that their premises are reasonably free of risk. Clearly, not checking windows in rooms on their premises, especially in the main building, as well as not having an awareness of who is staying in which room, which is clearly visible on the computer and/or filing system of the hotel (or at least SHOULD be). The vast majority of jurisdictions interpret 'prudent and reasonable' to include foreseeable dangers. Richmond is one of the jewels of Virginia--I assume the Commonwealth would abide by the same expectations for it's hospitality providers.
While I do not demand a refund for my stay, I do think it is entirely reasonably that the Revdex.com (or the Fire Marshal, for that matter) file sanctions against this institution in Richmond, and perhaps even institute penal fines. The following are the direct stated ([redacted]) responsibilities of the Fire and Emergency Services department of the Government of Richmond/VA : Inspections and Site Visits; Investigation of Complaints; Issuance of Violation Notices; Issuance of Summons; Verification of Compliance & Corrective Actions; Issuance of Permits. It is the responsibility of the Fire and Emergency Services division to investigate and enforce the Virginia Statewide Fire Prevention Code, the Code of Virginia and the Code of Richmond. In endeavouring to follow through with their duties, it would be entirely prudent and appropriate, as well as reasonably expected, for the Fire Marshal to investigate this hotel for continuing infractions, which clearly are incredibly dangerous. From the Richmond, VA Fire and Emergency Services website ([redacted]), "If code violations are noted, a Notice of Violation (N.O.V.) is issued. The N.O.V. explains what violations were found and the date they are to be corrected. A re-inspection is then conducted to verify that the violations have been corrected. If the violations have not been corrected, another N.O.V. is issued or a summons to General District Court may be served. Generally, summons are used in cases where the inspector finds insufficient effort to comply with the law. However, a summons may be issued upon discovery of extreme, blatant, or repeat violations. Violations are Class 1 misdemeanors, and carry a penalty of up to $2,500 and up to 1 year in jail per violation.'

Review: The clerk at the front desk was entirely incompetent. It took him 10 minutes to check in the person ahead of me, and then at least 10 minutes to check me in. I said I wanted a king bed, non-smoking room. He sent me to a room on the first floor, which when I opened it not only REEKED of smoke, but clearly had someone else staying in it! Their clothes were in the room, dirty underwear on the floor, and the bed was unmade. I went back to the front desk, and he gave me a new room on the 2nd floor. The fire doors at the top and bottom of the stairs were both unable to close and were left ajar, which directly went against signs on both doors posted by the fire marshall saying they were required to be kept shut. The stairwell smelled like something had died in it, and to make it worse it was a billion degrees in the stairwell and the 2nd floor. The second room I went to, in spite of allegedly being a non-smoking room, STILL reeked of cigarette smoke. When I went to open the window to try and air it out, not only was the screen broken and the window unable to stay open, but there was CLEARLY a cigarette stuck in the windowsill. Finally, the manager took me up to another room (the 3rd one I'd been put in) and this one at first blush seemed fine. As I was sitting here typing this review about how TERRIBLE this hotel is, guess what? A STRANGE MAN OPENS MY DOOR! He's a guest here, too, and was on his 5th room (the previous ones he said all were dirty or smelled or both) and they'd given him MY room!!! Looking around the room now I see that the window screen is broken, the window is unable to stay open at all and the locks are broken (the only reason I'm not moving rooms based on the locks is because I'm on the second floor....hopefully I don't get murdered at this dump!), the refrigerator is filthy, as is the microwave, and the carpet has huge chunks cut out of it in various spots, leading me to think that people have smoked in here, too. When I asked for a refund to go elsewhere, they refused.Desired Settlement: Ideally, I would like a refund. However, what I want most is for the Revdex.com to know how truly terrible this hotel is. Health issues related to cleanliness of bathrooms, beds, pool etc should all be questioned based on the many terrible reviews on TripAdvisor.com, and safety issues related to fire safety doors and ability of other guests to enter other's rooms! And the locks on the windows don't work?! Not safe at all.

I have reviewed the offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID[redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

The situation was exceedingly inappropriate, as well as threatening and dangerous. Regards,

Review: When I walked in to my first room it smelled like there was some sort of fungus growing underneath the carpet floor it was very muggy and humid as well. I requested to be changed to a different room. The new room([redacted]) seemed a lot better than the last room I had been to so I decided to stay in this room. I had no idea what I had gotten myself into, a couple hours later and im trying to sleep but wake up in the middle of the night itching myself and then I turned on the lights and sure enough there were bedbugs all over the bed I immediately jumped off the bed and proceeded to lock myself in the bathroom taking a really hot shower in hoped that if there is anything on my it would die from the heat. I lasted about 3 hours in the bathroom and could not bring myself to use their towels since I was extremely disgusted by the situation so instead I tried drying myself with their hair blower. when I went back to look at the bed I killed and took a picture of 2 of them that were still lingering. I Left around 5:30am and was denied a Refund by the employee at the front desk. I have no work till 12pm today so I will try to get some more sleep in my car instead of the hotel I had originally planned on staying in. A REFUND is the least they can do for all the trouble I am currently still going through. It is now 7am and I still need to hang around in my vehicle till 12pm... I WILL NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN!!Desired Settlement: $50
