My wife and I recently stayed at the Comfort Inn Phoenix North, located at 2641 W. Union Hills Drive, Phoenix, AZ, 85027. Upon arriving for check in (at about 5:15 PM on Monday, October 12, 2015), there were several trashy-looking people hanging out in the parking lot smoking, and there was a lot of litter around the premises.

The check-in process was good. The front desk clerk told us to park in the back of the hotel and use the northeast entrance. There was a pile of garbage sitting just outside the northeast entrance, and I had to swipe the key card at least a dozen times before the door actually unlocked for me. The carpet in the hallway (and throughout the entire hotel) was very dirty.

My wife and I are both asthmatic and need non-smoking rooms at any hotel we stay in. The hallways had a slight cigarette smoke odor, which did concern me a little. I opened the room door and, without even stepping one foot inside the room, was overwhelmed with the extremely strong stench of cigarette smoke coming from the room. We headed back to the front desk to get another room, which took a while for the front desk clerk to find one for us that did not smell like cigarettes. While heading to the front desk, a child in the lobby stopped us to beg for money.

The hallway where the new room was located also smelled like cigarette smoke. There was a large bin for dirty linens in the hallway outside the new room which was still there when I left the next morning. The new room had an overpowering stench of air fresheners that had obviously just been sprayed. The odor from the air freshener was so strong it actually gave me a sore throat. The walls in the room were dirty. The sheets were stained. The arm chair was filthy; the arms on the chair appeared a little crusty so there was no way I was going to sit in it. There were hairs on the toilette seat and the shower walls. The mattress was extremely dirty and, when laying on the bed on my stomach, smelled like cigarettes. There was something wrong with the bathroom door and it didn’t close easily. There was damage to the walls where lamps used to be but had been removed and the hotel didn’t patch up the damage. There was a large section of ceiling in the shower where there had obviously been a water leak at some point and a cheap repair job had been made.

The remote for the TV was missing. My wife did not want to go to the front desk alone because she did not feel safe, so we went together. The front desk clerk asked what kind of TV we had, and it was an LG. He said he doesn’t normally have spare remotes, but another guest had just dropped off an LG remote with him because they had a different brand TV in their room. This remote did work on our TV.

When I took a shower, I grabbed one of the two body towels that had been provided to find a long, black hair on it. I grabbed the other towel which also had a long, black hair on it. My wife tried calling the front desk, but the phone did not work (and we were charged a $3 phone administration fee). While I was using the wash cloths and hand towels to try off, my wife headed to the front desk to get more towels, telling me to go look for her if she wasn’t back in ten minutes. She wasn’t back in ten minutes, so I threw on some clothes and met her in the hallway on her way back. She said that the front desk clerk told her that he did not have any towels, the housekeeping staff was already gone for the day (this was about 9:30 PM) and they locked the door to housekeeping so he couldn’t get to the towels, and that there was nothing he could do. He made it abundantly clear to my wife, with other guests in line behind her to check in, that he was not going to do anything about the dirty towels that were provided. My wife told him to go into a room that was not being used and take the towels from there, which he reluctantly did with a room that he said didn’t have any hot water.

A complimentary breakfast was supposed to be provided to guests starting at 6:00 AM, which was about the time I needed to leave for work. I headed to the dining room at 5:56 hoping it might have opened a little early. Not only did it not open early, the dining room didn’t look like it was going to open any time soon. There were already a few other people waiting, I saw at least three signs telling guests not to take any food from the dining room, and considering how dirty the entire hotel was, I figured their breakfast wasn’t worth waiting for so I just bought my food elsewhere.

My wife did not need to be anywhere as early as me, so she checked out a couple hours after I left. She wanted to talk to the hotel manager but she was unavailable because she was in the processing of calling the police because a guest had found someone else in their room.

Don't do it. I repeat don't do it. As I'm typing this I'm writing a letter to the Revdex.com about their ABSOLUTE rude staff. Annera is the rudest front desk employee I've encountered in my entire life. I'm a business professional that flies year round and stays in hotels a lot. Annera was by far the worst ever, you will be majorly disappointed, you heard it here first. Spend 20 more dollars and get you a real respectful hotel that values you as a customer. When I told the front desk I'd make a complaint, the "front desk supervisor" Annera said, he can complain to whoever the hell he wants - we're privately owned by a guy named Jay so who cares. Wow. Don't do it.
