Review: The apartment has been attempting renovations during this recent leasing period; all of said attempts have resulted in inferior completion and even personal damage. The first renovation was replacing our floors. During the process, our animals (and myself as I was sick that day) were subjected to fumes that left us dizzy and made my cat quite ill. We were not warned ahead of time of the fumes, just that we wouldn't be allowed to leave during the gluing process. Many animals were subjected to this without warning. At the completion of the project, the floors were not glued down correctly and are still bubbly and the carpets in other rooms have begun to fray because they were not properly stapled. I applied for a work order with the apartment and they sent a guy over to inspect. This man told us that there was nothing to be done except put rugs over the damaged areas and we were disappointed.

The next renovation - and the primary reason for the complaint - is still ongoing. The apartment is replacing the siding on our buildings and our building specifically is last to be done. The process for the [redacted] building has already taken a week longer than the rest and has resulted in damage to my personal belongings. The apartment did warn us over a month ago that there would be noise early in the morning as the workers banged on our walls. They did not warn us that the workers would be singing and yelling at their comrades at 7:30 in the morning or that our hanging pictures, bookshelves, etc would be thrown off the wall where they could be broken on the floor. I have been awaken many a morning to the chatter, not the work. Of the damage to my personal belongings: one of my electronic pictures has been broken (cracked glass) as was an irreplaceable pewter faerie statue. Several of my books fell off the shelves and now have bent pages and spines. Worst of all I have caught the workers on two occasions, looking into my room early in the morning as I lay in bed. I know that the work does not need to be done at my window because on both occasions there was no sound of work until after I caught the offender's eye and he hurriedly moved away from the window. I am very offended by this and did confront my apartment's leasing office about the problem I've had and the damaged items and they, in more words, told me to deal with it. As they put it, everyone has had to wake up to the noise and everyone has been told about the workers so we should have removed items from our walls. No where in their one warning (issued months before our apartment was even touched) do I remember reading that there would be a possibility for collateral damage. Nor should casual conversation (in the form of yelling or singing) be an acceptable work ethic for so early in the morning. My apartment managers got my name and information but have yet to resolve any issues I have with the workers. Which is why I have turned my complaint to the Revdex.comDesired Settlement: I asked the apartment at the time of my complaint if anything could be done of the damaged items and they avoided the question. I am very upset that they are damaged especially since the statuette holds such personal value to me. I would request reimbursement of the repairs for these art pieces (one is a glass repair, the other will require a pewter specialist). If this is declined or impossible, I will request instead and rather emphatically to be released from my lease early with no extra fees. I realize that the apartment is comparatively cheap, however, I believe that all inhabitants deserve better service especially if the apartment is using the renovations to raise rates. I thank you very much for your time and understanding.

Response:

[redacted] did stop by our office and spoke with our Assistant General Manager about an art piece that had fallen and was damaged. She never mentioned reimbursement for repairs, only that an irreplaceable art piece she made had been damaged. An email was sent out to all residents in her building on November 10th that stated several reminders about siding replacement including “remember to remove any valuable items from walls to prevent damage.” I have a copy of this email if necessary. My AGM apologized for the damage and had a conversation with our contractor about her other concerns. After receiving a letter from the Revdex.com I called [redacted] to attempt to resolve the issue. I had to leave a message and my call has not been returned. It is not our policy to replace resident personal belongings in the event that they are damaged, our lease highly recommends renter’s insurance to cover personal property in apartments.Regards,[redacted]General Manager

Response:

Though I am still upset, I understand that an email was sent as a warning. I don't have any records of the email on my computer and have had many previous problems receiving emails from the apartment as is, but in the end, my complaint is with the contractors. I am not happy with their work and I will not be renewing my lease next year because of my dissatisfaction; however, I don't see that there is much use continuing with my complaint so I will withdraw it. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Regards,
