Commonwealth Maintenance, Inc. Reviews (5)

First hired in [redacted] 2014 and on going due to problems. Commonwealth (CM) was hired to perform chimney inspection at my residence. As a result, work in the amount of [redacted] was recommended, agreed upon and paid for. Repairs that I understood would be performed were not. Two new chimney caps were installed. One of the caps blew off due to being improperly installed and [redacted] was sent to reinstall. He discovered that the other cap that had been installed was the wrong kind of cap. He ordered new cap and took original cap when he left. I left messages requesting that the replacement cap be installed but never heard back. I have an estimate of [redacted] to install a new cap. During the inspection, they failed to mention a large gap where flashing meets chimney. This resulted in a bat flying around my bedroom at 3 a.m. I sent a photo of the problem to [redacted] and he said that "maybe they looked at one side of the chimney and not the other" during inspection. He said that he would send someone out to fill the hole. I already had pest control people lined up, but [redacted] insisted that the pest people were trying to rip me off and I would have to hire him later on anyway to fill the hole so I may as well have him do it now. I was concerned that filling the hole could trap bats inside the house with no way to get out. He said that they do this all of the time and that the guys would check for bats before filling the hole and would be sure that there were no more bats prior to doing the job. The repair job they did was called [redacted] by [redacted] of the New York office and he said that the photos showing the completed job were "horrible". The job was so bad that my check was not cashed. It cost [redacted] to have a roofer repair the work performed by CM. CM offered to repay me the [redacted] but I never received payment. Even though [redacted] said that the techs would know if there were any more bats and the tech [redacted] promised and wrote on my receipt that there were "no more bats," they did end up trapping a bat inside the house. I found it hanging on an upstairs wall on Sunday morning. The cost to remove that bat was [redacted] The cost to remove the first bat was [redacted] was unresponsive to my emails and certified letter dated [redacted] 2014. I requested a written response several times and [redacted] finally said he would mail it "tomorrow." It wasn't sent. Up until the time that I requested reimbursement, [redacted] took responsibility for the gap. I tried going through the resolution process offered by [redacted] but [redacted] did not respond to [redacted] and instead called and threatened me. When I called the office asking for a mailing address, I was told that they do not give out the company's mailing address. It appears that the two addresses on file with [redacted] and the ones on file with Revdex.com and [redacted] of [redacted] office may be bogus.Product_Or_Service: Chimney inspection, repairDesired SettlementRefund in the amount of [redacted] to reimburse for damages and replacement of cap that was removed by [redacted] Cash, Check or Credit Card.Business Response We have tried numerous times to come to a mutual agreement. She has harassed our employees. She has made false statements. Mrs [redacted] is under the assumption that when we originally inspected and service her chimney back in [redacted] 2014 that we should of seen a hole in her wood soffit. We only inspected her chimney and we did not inspect her siding. We do not handle that type of work we have tried to explain that to Mrs [redacted]. We are not responsible for that damage. When we tried to send a technician from our company to her home she said she did not want us to come. Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)In Response:Commonwealth Chimney offered to reimburse me for the [redacted] that I had to pay a rooferto undo the damage that was done by its employees. I have email documentation. I never received the check.I never refused to have a tech come to my house. The third time they were sending someone, I was concerned as to whom they would send due to extremely poor workmanship on the part of the previous two teams who worked on my house. [redacted] told me he was sending [redacted] their most experienced tech. Turns out that Silverman was a brand new sub-contractor hire.Flashing had pulled away from the chimney bricks and left a gaping hole. It is possible that the damage was done at the time of inspection. Nothing to do with the soffits. When I first inquired, I was told that "they may have checked one side of the chimney and not the other" by [redacted]. I asked what kind of chimney inspection only inspects one side of the chimney? Part of the reason that I had the inspection done was because I was concerned about the integrity of the chimney's exterior.[redacted] insisted that they be the ones to repair the hole mentioned above. If they have nothing to do with this type of thing, I don't know why he insisted over three phone calls that I not hire the pest prevention company, but hire Commonwealth Chimney to take care of the hole because I "would just need to have them come out later (after the pest control people) to fill the hole". I was concerned that bats would be trapped inside the house. [redacted] said they did this all of the time and that the techs would check for bats before securing the hole. I have in writing that they checked and that there were no more bats. However, they did trap a bat in the house which cost me [redacted] to remove. It no longer had its mean of egress. The response does not make mention of the fact that when they came to re-install the chimney cap that blew off because the wrong type of screws had been used during installation, that [redacted] removed the second cap that had been installed by CM because he said it was the wrong type and that the tech who installed it wasn't experienced enough to know which type to install. He took that cap with him and told me that a new one was on order. Commonwealth Maintenance never came back with the replacement cap for which I had paid for parts and installation. It will cost me [redacted] to have another company come out and take care of it.The response does not address the fact that a plumbing permit should have been pulled before installation of the chimney lining. I was told by the building inspector that since I have a gas furnace, I will have to hire a plumber to retroactively pull the permit and check that the work was done properly.I do not think the following qualifies as harassment:I called and asked for their mailing address. The certified letter that I sent to that address came back as undeliverable. It turns out that I was given a bogus mailing address. This same address is on file will both [redacted] and the Revdex.com. I spoke with the management office of the building at that address and they had never heard of Commonwealth Maintenance. That led me to call CM back to ask for a valid address. I was told that they did not know their address. I was told that they do not give out their address because there are women working in the office. I asked if the address on file with [redacted] of [redacted] office was a valid address and got no response. A representative from [redacted] also called to get a physical address without identifying herself as such, and was unable to get the address.Note: According to town hall records, there is a different company located at the address on file with [redacted] of [redacted] office.I left three polite messages on [redacted] phone during working hours asking after the cap replacement that he told me he would order and install. These calls were not harassment as I wanted the cap installed, catch more flies with honey, etc. [redacted] called me back once at 11 pm at night and hung up when I answered the phone. I have documentation of this call. That qualifies as harassment in my book.I called and spoke to [redacted] when I found out that a permit was supposed to be pulled. I asked if that was something they could do for me. She said she had no idea, but would have [redacted] call me back. He never called me back. I only made the one call regarding this issue. So that doesn't qualify as harassment on my part. When I wrote a review for [redacted] called me directly (against [redacted] policy) and threatened to sue me. He was very belligerent, and not for the first time. Now that's harassment. The business is now in [redacted] "penalty box" for not responding to my complaint and for not responding to a licensing question that [redacted] posed to them at the request of a different customer. Please Note: The original settlement amount was calculated prior to my knowing that a permit needed to be pulled. I will now also need to be reimbursed for hiring a plumber retroactively. Why does Commonwealth Maintenance not provide customers with a valid mailing address? All of the above is true.Final Business Response I also sent this email to Mrs [redacted] asking to come to her home and install the cap that needs to be re installed . We have done all we could to please Mrs [redacted].Final Consumer Response I responded to their email by requesting proof of license and insurance before they send someone out to replace the cap that they walked off with. I have not received that proof. Also, the cap is one small part of the complaint. They need to pull a permit for work already completed and then have the work inspected. I have an email from the company indicating that they will reimburse me the [redacted] worth of roof work that had to be done due to the damage they caused. That is not all, but just some of what I am trying to settle. I have also asked repeatedly for a mailing address, which [redacted] indicated she gives out to customers, but have not received the address.

Hired the company in [redacted] and they came out and did part of the work and have yet to finish it. They have made 5 appts and kept 0I hired the company in [redacted] right after buying my new house. [redacted] came out for the first apt and we hired him on the spot. We needed our fireplace and chimney cleaned and a cap added at the top. He also told us while there our fireplace was not correctly anchored to the house and was a huge fire hazard. He told us he could have it dont and all work would take a day. The guys came out a few weeks later and did the cleaning but couldn't anchor the chimney because they needed to have a special pieces fabricated. We said fine we would wait. We have been waiting ever since. They have made multiple appts and NOT shown for any of them. We have heard multiple excuses such as a sick child, the pieces were not up to par and the technician ran out of time. My husband has left work for all of these missed appts and they didn't even call to let us know they weren't coming. We have paid more than half of the price for the work and we can still not use the fireplace. I paid with a check which was cashed. I have a copy of the contract but it has no account numbers written on it. At this point I am very frustrated because we have lost valuable time waiting for this work to be complete. My husband has lost his time off for leaving work early multiple times. We want the work finished and other people to not get into the same situation we are in.Desired SettlementI want the work finished ASAP. It is not almost winter and my fire place should be functional.Business Response I apologize for the delay in completing Ms [redacted] job. Due to manufacturing delay it was out of our control. But Ms, Hartmans job will be completed on [redacted] We apologize for the delay or any inconvenience this may of caused. We want the job completed as well Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)Company called and left a message telling me they would be there [redacted] between [redacted] They NEVER came again! They are making NO effort to get this finished. Their business practices are unbelievably unprofessional.Final Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)Since the company reply they have missed another appointment and did not call again. At this point I am contacting a lawyer.Final Business Response I spoke to Mrs [redacted] and told her we would be thereon [redacted] and she was fine with it. That is when her job will be completed Thank you,[redacted]

stay away from this co.cancelled first apt. then never showed up for 2nd one and never called

STRONGLY RECOMMEND to avoid doing any business at all with this so called company.Purchased chimney cleaning service through Groupon.Shame on me. I should have known after making appointment and talking with person on phone this was going to be memorable.Scheduled for 11/11/14,they called and cancelled due to overbooking? Re-scheduled to 11/14,they called and cancelled due to LIGHT RAIN! I told them I felt they were running a scam and all I got was I'm sorry.I'm sorry sir. I was not interested in anything she had to say. She re-scheduled for 11/17 and yes they cancelled again due to rain? They set up two more dates in which you guessed it CANCELLED! I had already called Dave's Chimney Service and they came out and performed chimney cleaning within a few days.No cancellation,no excuses.Professional job well done. Lesson learned.Make sure companies are legit. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!!!!

I had a stainless steel liner installed inside my chimney in [redacted] of this year. The bill was [redacted] A couple of weeks before that my mother had the same type of work done to her chimney for a lot less money, more than [redacted] less. At first I thought it was because she got a senior citizen discount and that she was doing 2 houses, her own and another one she's renting out. Then when I started to do my gas conversion to my house, the plumber who's doing it told me that I got totally screwed over by the people who did the chimney. I was way over charged, about twice more. Not only that, he said that from the receipt, it looks like they taxed the total amount which included labor. He inspected the work that they did and saw that there were gaps where there shouldn't be any otherwise there would be gas leakage. The work that was done was no way near worth over 3 grand. He has a master plumber license and told me that what they did in less than 3 hours shouldn't cost more than what he charged me for doing 3 days of work doing the gas conversion. On top of that the people who did my chimney were also 6+ hours late doing the job.Product_Or_Service: chimney linerDesired SettlementOn my receipt it states that they will meet or beat any written estimate. Therefore I would like a refund of a minimum of [redacted] and would like them to seal the gaps that are around the chimney liner that they installed.
