Community College of Philadelphia Reviews (1)

Review: I signed up for spring classes in November 2013 for the Spring semester for 2014. A week later, I went to the main campus on Spring Garden and dropped the classes. When I dropped my classes there was a receipt of the dropped classes given to me. September 2014, I received a bill in the mail for $1100. I called CCP and informed them I dropped the classes a month before classes were to begin and I did not attend one of the classes, because I dropped them. CCP stated they have no record of my dropping the classes. I have since moved and my original receipt was lost in the move. CCP states I have to pay this bill or it will go to a collections agency. Not only is this situation unethical, the people that I have encountered are extremely rude and have laughed at me about my concerns.Desired Settlement: I want this bill to be gone and not to contact me again about this issue that they created.

Response:

October 3, 2014Dear [redacted]:I am writing in response to a complaint filed with the Revdex.com alleging that the Community College of Philadelphia acted irresponsibly in handling the student account of [redacted]. The complaint was filed on Monday, September 15, 2014, under ID [redacted].I have reviewed the [redacted]'s statement in detail and conducted an internal investigation to examine the validity of her claim. On November 11, 2013, [redacted] used her login credentials to sign into the College's student portal. She self-registered for an English 101 and a Math 016 course resulting in total charges of $1,110. On November 13, 2014, a bill was sent to her via e-mail and mail (exhibit A). A second bill (exhibit B) was sent to [redacted] on November 26, 2014, demonstrating she was still registered 15 days after the initial date of registration. A week later I went to the main campus on Spring Garden and dropped the classes.”On May 14, 2014, [redacted] completed the tuition appeal application (exhibit C), alleging she had dropped the classes and had not attended any classes. The College refund policy states, “You are responsible to officially drop classes prior to the start of the term if you do not plan to remain enrolled in classes, including cases of non-attendance,” The resund policy is displayed on the student bill, printed in the College Catalog Enrollment Guide, Student Handbook, and on various web pages. The College investigatcd her claim and found no evidence that [redacted] had formally dropped her classes. On June 25, 2014, a denial letter (exhibit D) was mailed to [redacted].If you have further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at [redacted].Sincerely,Jill G General Counsel andVice President for Human Resources
