Community II Heating & Air Conditioning Reviews (1)

Review: On May **, 2013, my mother, [redacted], called Community 2 Heating and Air to service our central air condition unit outside. [redacted] the technician came that morning. He said there was a leak in the AC unit but said he could add freon in the unit so that we can have cold air running in the house. He quoted the price and said it was $90 a pound. I initially asked for 3 lbs. but he insisted to put 5 lbs. to fill up the unit so it could last the entire summer. So going by his word, I agreed to the 5 lbs. He allegedly put the freon in there. When the service was done, he charged me $450 for the 5 lbs of freon plus a $99.95 service charge. The total amount including a $48.81 tax is $598.76. We barely used the AC unit since. On June [redacted] 2013, we turned it on to find out there wasn't any cool air coming from the vents. So we called [redacted] again and he came to the house only to tell us there was no freon in the unit. We asked how is that possible when you allegedly installed 5 lbs? He said that it all leaked out. We barely used the AC and now the freon is gone into thin air? He then wanted to charge us $350 for a leak test (which he should have done in the first place), and then wanted to charge us again for the service. We refused because we were being ripped off. We have called several times to speak to a manager that was never there. Then [redacted] was supposedly the "supervisor". He never showed us any identification that he was a "supervisor". They do not want to refund the money. So I called my credit card company to dispute the charge. Please help us. This company ripped us off and took advantage of my ederly mom who cannot live in this extreme heat conditions.Desired Settlement: I want a full refund of $598.76 back to my credit card.

Response:

Community 11 is a staten island based company for over 41 years. We pride ourselves on fair and honest customer service. On 6/**/2013 we received a call from [redacted], her one and only call, expressing her dissatisfaction, after our service technican was there, and told her the problem with the unit. Community's technicians are instructed on how to correct any refrigerant leaks. If unit is low or empty of refrigerant perform a leak test, find and repair leak, recharge the system. Some customers opt not to have the leak test done due to the expense involved and request us to just recharge the unit. The amount of refrigerant needed is determined by the lenght of the refrigerant lines from the evaporator coil to the unit. The way we determine how many pounds of refrigerant the unit needed is to weigh the refrigerant tank before and after charging the unit, this is done with customer present. Because our technician did not suggest a leak test , we will refund the customer the total amount paid
