I am writing this after several attempts to contact Compass regarding this matter with no response. This is in regards to Park-Slope agent, Brian Blessinger. I was put in touch with Brian in April 2019, as my partner and I prepared to move to NY from California. Over email and phone, he appeared to be working steadfastly to make this move smooth and straightforward. Upon arriving to NY however, things immediately began to show otherwise. He took me to viewings for apartments that were run down, tenement housing, and not aligned with specifications we’d discussed. When I asked him about the listings he’d sent us earlier, he explained they were many years outdated and he didn’t know how to use the Compass app. He hadn’t conveyed this beforehand and continued to withhold information throughout the search. Furthermore, he became manic at times, breaking down, discussing his personal anxieties and how I should go on without him. Given I’d invested money into flying out and an AirBnB, I was as patient as I could be and conveyed that I wanted to continue working with him. Even volunteering to look for places which we could look at together.

Upon finding and booking a viewing myself, Brian conveyed he wanted to attend too and help with the application. I loved the apartment and put down a deposit and paid the application fee to Compass. Brian said it wasn’t worth looking at other apartments and cancelled all our appointments without consulting me. After taking my partner and my applications, he went AWOL except for sporadic demands for “urgent” paperwork and documentation from our employers, landlords and families. When we asked for updates or context for his requests, he ignored our calls and text messages and his voicemail was full. By the third day, I was fed up and contacted the landlord’s broker. He conveyed that our application had been declined early on and he had no idea why Brian kept demanding more paperwork from us. When Brian called me later that day to let me know that we had been denied (after I had texted him this) I imagined he’d at least show us more apartments. My AirBnB reservation was closing out and I was getting tight on money, and homelessness loomed.

But his response was that we should just look for a room because we didn’t come from rich backgrounds or have trust funds, making it too hard for him to do his job. When I asked why he didn’t convey this earlier, he yelled that he’d done the best he could. I was deeply upset but worried if I argued with him, he would become volatile again or refuse to return my documents. I calmed him down and met up to get my documents back. I ended up finding a place on my own but had to drop another 1k into another round trip flight.

Brian's unprofessionalism and incompetence ensured we will never consider or refer anyone to work with Compass again.

Sincerely

I am the owner of a property listed on their website. The Revdex.com site is not permitting me to copy the link due to an error but the address is ***. I sent a request to Compass by email asking for removal of all photos due to privacy and sercurity concerns. While Compass' compeitors have made it easy for owners to remove photos, Compass' website does not permit removal of photos. Additonally, the company did not respond to my email requests. Please request removal on my behalf. They are also heavy notified they will be held legally liable for any problems arising from invading my privacy and compromising the security of my home. Take it seroiously or be sued and read about it in the Wall Street Journal, CNBC and the New York Times, I dont *** around.

I would not recommend this company. Using Redfin would of been a better choice. I was very annoyed with the entire process, even-though the home selling and purchasing experience should of been a smooth and enjoyable process.

1. I had picked out my lot and options on my own before contacting Evan J of the Evan + Mark Team located in Washington, DC to make an offer with the builder.
2. I negotiated with Evan to receive a refund of 1% from the purchase of my new home, since I have already selected the options and the lot before contacting him. After the negotiations were complete he informed me he could not honor our agreement, since the builder provided a 2% sales commission instead of a 3% commission.
3. Evan had the sales manager of the new property negotiate with me directly, instead of going through him.
4. On the sales of my condo I was told I could get full price, if not multiple offers. Evan had a two hour window for my open house and sent an associate, instead of holding the open house himself. I only had three showings that day.
5. I had originally had a 4.5% total commission to be shared by the seller and buyer agent. Two days before listing of my condo Evan asked me to increase the commission to 5% as his market research had found that buying agents were not willing to show a property for a 2% commission as Compass was receiving a 2.5% sales commission. This should of been brought up before the listing of my apartment when I signed the listing agreement a month ahead of time.
6. I was offered an opening offer by a Redfin buyer $5,000 below asking prior to my open house and I felt Evan was working for the buyer instead of representing me as the seller.
7. At the closing of my condo Evan was not present and his assistant had sent the wrong closing time to the title lawyer, so I waited around an hour past my scheduled closing to sign the closing documents.
8. Evan never showed up to my final walk-through for my new property and blamed a scheduling error.
9. Two business days before closing I had already transferred all closing costs and down payment to the title company. The title company notified me that Evan had emailed them to include admin fees for Compass after I had wired my funds. I had to contact him that this was shady business practices and to remove the admin fees.
10. Evan never showed up to my closing day for my new property and just collected his commission. Horrible business practices.
