The first week of May we signed a contract with CRS to restore our house after we'd had some extensive water damageWithin a week the subcontractor was at our house to do some needed demolition workThen it took nearly a month for anyone to come back to start more workOur contract expired the end of JuneIt is now the end of October and the work is not yet completeWe have not heard from them in over weeks, not unusualThe subcontractors are sub par for the most partI'm not happy with some of the work done to date and will have to have the work define
The CRS crew from the Maryland office performed mold remediation work in my apartment for approximately 6-weeks (not continuously)One of their on-site Supervisors was present for much of the work Before CRS workers began the project, I hired a Certified Industrial Hygienist to perform air quality testing and moisture readingsThe CIH formally identified toxic mold growth in my unit (including within the HVAC system)My apartment complex also hired their own environmental professional who identified mold growth as wellCRS has access to the reports, which were used to formulate their scope of work Despite being made well aware of the quantity and severity of the mold present in my home, and its presence in the HVAC system, CRS chose not to adhere to EPA and/or OSHA guidelines for the protective gear required to be worn by workers responsible for mold abatement tasks For weeks, the same CRS workers pulled out moldy drywall, ripped up carpet ruined by black mold, carried away contaminated insulation, and compled any number of tasks involving direct contact with toxic mold and/or chemicalsI watched them do all of this while wearing nothing but the occasional pair of latex glovesCRS' workers, both men and women (of childbearing age), wore only their own clothing and shoes, no work gloves, masks, protective suits, or shoe covers If your instinct is to be less concerned about the CRS workers' health than the company's job performance, consider things from a different perspectiveSince CRS showed so little regard for government-enforced safety rules (even though violations could result in fines), it is unlikely they are an ethical company deserving of the trust we place in companies allowed in our most private space - our homeI would certainly not recommend them to anyone
