Compton Roofing Inc. Reviews (1)

Response to Revdex.com.   We roofed this home in July, 2013 and the house was then sold to the person leasing the property.    We honored the workmanship warranty regardless of ownership.    Over the course of 2 ½ years there were two minor repairs at this home; these...

are separate issues and in different locations from the problem that has been the cause of this complaint.  Items 1 and 2 are the repairs unrelated to the current problem.   1. In March, 2014  the homeowner had an energy inspection and there was a flue pipe that needed caulking, per the energy inspection.  Homeowner called us and we did a service call.  This was under workmanship warranty and there was of course, no charge and no further problems reported with that repair.   2. In January, 2015 there was a leak and we caulked fascia at the roofline.  This roof was then out of workmanship warranty at that time but we still offered customer service -- No charge and no further problems with that repair.   Homeowner said there was a stain on the ceiling in one of the bedrooms but apparently it was small and they did not request any additional assistance.    The current problem leading to this complaint:   3. In the Fall, of 2013 there was a leak in the area in question.  The original flashing was resealed and we arranged for painting.   For over two years there was no other problem with this area and then in February, 2016, the homeowner notified us that there was a leak in this same area.     While he did not call us until February, 2016 we believe that the record amount of rain in late December of 2015 was the contributing factor to this leaking since it had not leaked in two years. There was 10-12 inches of rain which caused flooding issues in the St. Louis area and water infiltration was a problem with many homes in the St. Louis area.   Also, at this point the homeowner mentioned for the first time he was unhappy with the painting repair from before – it had been over two years since we painted that area.   In February, 2016 when looking for the cause, removed the siding in the area of the leak since we could not see any specific roofing problem.  We believe the water infiltrated behind the siding at that point on the home.  We then covered the wall under the siding with a peel and stick membrane product and put in a taller flashing as a precaution since we had the siding removed  and made a repair.   We did not charge for this repair; and we did not work on this part of the home when replacing the roof originally.  We were simply performing customer service.     The homeowner feels this last leak is a result of the roofing and wanted us to cover repair costs.  In late spring 2016, the homeowner brought forth some repair estimates for water leaks into the house and it was at that point we reviewed our responsibility on this project and we believed this problem was not a roofing issue but rather water running in behind siding due to the record rains.  The homeowner was not in agreement.  Per the homeowner’s request, we turned it into our insurance company on August 12, 2016.  Our goal at that point was to allow someone else to review the facts.   A claim was opened and an engineer was sent to the home to assess the repair, etc.  The three different leaks were all in different sections of the home and different issues.  The insurance company did determine that they would cover painting on one of the prior leaks (#2) and verified that the most recent item was not  a roofing issue, rather water infiltrating behind siding above the roof on the dormer.   [redacted] sent a letter to the homeowner denying the larger claim, but allowing for a smaller repair based on the estimate submitted by the homeowner.  We feel like we responded to every problem, made every repair, even if not our work and allowed the insurance company to review everything.   We were quite willing to let this go through as a claim if the insurance company determined this was our responsibility.   Unfortunately the homeowner is unhappy with the engineer’s findings that this leak was not a result of poor roofing installation.
