Went in to have my labtop cleaned up, it was having pop ups all the time and slow. Figured I would us the local small town shop hoping I would get that small business service. I entered and was greeted by a young man that was assisting another customer. I waited as he finished with his current customer.
I explained the problems that I had with my labtop pop ups and slow response ect. I asked him what the cost was to have them go through and do a general cleanup and check it out. He responded thatt the cost was $45.00 which I felt was fair. I told him that if they found anyother issues or things they felt should be done that I needed a phone call regarding it before anything was done and he agreed. I paid the $45.00 invoice and was instructed it would be 3-7 days.
Five business days later I recieved a call that the lab top was done, they informed me that the anti-virus was going to expire soon just as a FYI. I inquired about the anti-virus they used and its cost. I was told it was $35.00 so I told them to go ahead and put it on (at no time did they say it was $35.00 plus additional labor.) I was informed I could come anytime after noon to pick it up.
I stopped by around 4 to get my lab top only to find a balalnce of $94.94. What remember I paid the $45.00 at time of drop off and authorized a $35.00 anti-virus so I was expecting a $35.00 plus tax bill. When I asked the lasy that was helping what this was about she pointed to a $100.00 line item for shop labor that included removing junk files and spyware, remove temp files, remove the expired anti-virus and install the new anti-virus. I was shocked I told her hey I was told this was $45.00 and I was instructed the young man that took my lab top that anything more that needed to be done was to be approved by me. She explained that the $45.00 is a down payment ont he service and it should have been explained that way. I kindly told her that at no time when I dropped it off and talked and paid the $45.00 was I told anyhting that pointed to this being a down payment. She called the young man out that took in my lab top and he for the most part plead the 5th saying I told you it was not the final bill ect. ect. then when I asked about the hey I told you I needed a phone call for any other money to be spent there was a ummm umm well and no real answer.
Yes the first invoice says on the bottom that this is a esimate for the service followed by a sentance that says"You will be called for approval of additional labor or parts" so not onkly did I ask for that they statte it right on the invoice that they will.
I ended up paying the full bill only because of the fact that neither of the people that helped me had any intrest in doin anything to meet in the middle in fact I was told that this is the bill I cant do anything about it. I told them both that by not informing me that the $45.00 was a doen payment/Deposit whatever was misleading and untruthful. they dis agreed of course.
I was hoping for a good small town business to work with and I didnt get that here. Bottom line I would have paid the whole bill regardless but the fact that the response to my concerns and the response to me calling them out on the misleading customers got NO attention lead me to this post. I will never return there and advise that if you choose to go there make sure you write down things and have the associate sign your copy so you have a leg to stand on due to the fact that they dont give you the whole story uo front and denie any wrong doing when there is a issue.
