older systems such as this motherboards are generally not available directly from the manufacturer (and when they are the price is typically 25-50% more than other parts suppliers making them largely cost prohibitive).  Since part supply is limited for these older laptops we are often forced to obtain replacement parts from different suppliers each time.  We only purchase items from reputable vendors with high ratings and a warranty policy that meets or exceeds the 30 day warranty of parts and labor that we offer to our customers. In this case the part was ordered on March 14, 2016 from an online laptop parts supplier with a 99.8% rating based on over 897 customer reviews.  The part was a new motherboard with a 45 day warranty.  The part arrived on March 21, 2016 and was installed. The initial replacement appeared brand new in sealed anti-static packaging.  There was no indication that it had been refurbished in any way.  The initial replacement motherboard worked fine but there was an extremely minor issue in which some settings were not being properly retained by the board.  This issue would not have been noticed by regular testing, only after a full installation and testing.  Since we want our customers to receive their equipment back without any issues, we contacted the supplier and made arrangements to get a replacement board.  The customer was notified of the extra delay and we proceeded to ship the original board back at our expense. There was some delay from the parts supplier with the second replacement board but it arrived on April 4, 2016 and also appeared brand new.  It was installed the same day, tested and made available for the customer.  Later the same day the customer picked up the laptop. On May 28, 2016 we received a call from the customer stating that they were having problems with the system.  We made arrangements to take in the system to see what the problem was.  The exact problem was slightly different that the original failure but the end result was the same that the motherboard had failed.  The system fan was functioning properly and there was no obvious signs of any external issues that led to that failure. On May 31, 2016 the parts supplier was contacted and informed of the failure trying to get a replacement part.  After some delay on June 7, 2016,  the parts supplier responded asking for more information concerning the specific part number and failure.  This information was provided immediately to the parts supplier.  We tried to contact the parts supplier several times after that but never received a response.  The part was out of the 45 day warranty period from the parts supplier but we still expected a response. On June 20, 2016 after still receiving no response from the parts supplier, we contacted the customer and advised them of the situation.  Even though the system repair was well beyond the 30 day warranty period, we offered to install another replacement motherboard at no cost if the customer is able to obtain one.  If the customer would like to not proceed with a second repair of the system we will also offer free labor to recover the documents, pictures etc. from the failed system.
