We would like to submit the following response to complaint #[redacted].On July 7, we went to the customer's home to fix the toilets in the home, Our technician changed three flappers on the toilets. While he was preparing the invoice for the homeowner, which totaled $124.47, the helper checked the...

toilets to be sure everything was working property as part of our Company’s procedure. The helper came back and told the technician that one of the flappers was not holding. He went back to the toilet and sound that the flush valve needed to be replaced. He came down and told the husband, “Hey this flapper is not holding and I am going to need to replace the flush valve” and the homeowner said, “ok”. Additional costs were not discussed at this time but reasonable expectation would be that there would be additional charges for this work. He replaced the flush valve,                                         ... took another 45 minutes ($72.00 labor) plus parts. He rewrote the invoice for $233.26. The homeowner signed the invoice acknowledging satisfactory completion of the work and called our office to pay by credit card.Later that afternoon he then called and told the office manager that he had been told the bill would be $320,00 and that he was upset he got charged an additional $110.00 to replace the flush valve. He demanded to speak to the owner, who was out in the field, and was told someone would call him in the morning. Company policy is to have the service manager handle calls such as this and then be escalated to the owner. Our service manager did call the homeowner and told him that we felt we had acted in good faith to fix his problem.The next day, when the customer’s wife called to speak to the owner claiming that we had overcharged and our technician had not really replaced the flush valve, he was not rude but he was firm with her that we had the empty boxes to prove our technician had replaced the flush waive. Every time the owner of the company tried to talk about what was going on, the wife kept interrupting him and got very nasty. He told her we would return her money but not to call the company again because of her behavior and the fact he felt they were trying to get something done for nothing.Not an hour after he told her we would refund her money, she posted a nasty review on google reviews and whatever other place she posted it. The owner then decided not to refund the money because the review was undeserved. We had done the work requested and fixed the problem. Had we not fixed the toilet with the flush valve and left the flapper leaking, they would have complained about that.The customer called back again and harangued the owner about refunding their money. The customer said, “We will give you a great review if you refund our money”. We had completed the work and fixed the toilet and did not deserve the bad review because they had second thoughts about paying the extra $110.00 for the labor and parts to correctly fix the toilet. We have seen the bad reviews and now received the customer’s wife’s complaint to the Revdex.com.We have subsequently refunded the total invoice price, $233,26, on July 20, 2016. We feel that we have been scammed and blackmailed by the customer to get work done for free and feel they need to find another plumber to do any future plumbing work.
