Review: I put in a request with [redacted] for a company that could remodel my Master bathroom. I've used their referrals before & received excellent services from their referrals. As a result, I felt & still feel that [redacted] is a trustworthy, safe & reliable source of referrals for home improvement. Also, because they advertise that they do a more thorough background check on their referrals, as well as making sure all licensing is up to par. They sent me several references, & after looking at their ratings & reviews, I reached out to 2. I received a response that same evening from the contractor for [redacted]., who also goes by the name [redacted]. I was rather surprised that he responded so quickly & but I know this line of work is very competable, so I suspected he was vying for the job by giving me a very low quote over the phone. So I made an appointment for him to come & look at what I wanted done & to get a more accurate estimate. When he saw what needed to be done his price doubled, & was a little over what I wanted to pay, but I wanted to get the work done while I had the finances to do it. So I hired this contractor/Concorde Remodeling to completely renovate Master bathroom, & expand by removing a small wall between bathroom & small walk-in closet to allow room for a walk-in tub to be installed. I hired him also to remove a large wall in Master bedroom, which in doing so would adjoin a 2nd bedroom where 1/2 of the room a new large walk-in closet would be installed & the other half of the room for lounging. In other words it would be like a Master bedroom suite with a new large walk-in closet. At his initial visit to look at the work I wanted done, I asked this contractor if any permits/inspections would be needed, he said none were needed. So he wrote up a simple contract for the work which he charged $39,900 for the total job, & we both signed. At the bottom of his contract, it states in small print, that "the seller" (who is the contractor) would procure all permits needed, & that he also would provide proof of Workers Compensation. He asked for a deposit of $16,000 which I paid him, & two weeks later he began the job. The 1st day on the job he asked for 2 checks; 1 check for $4500 made payable to Concorde Remodeling, & the 2nd check for $5000 made payable to himself. I was a little taken back, but I know its not unusual that contractors ask for more money before the job is completed. I just didnt expect it to be so soon. But I paid him anyway, not wanting to cause any problems, esp. since the demolition work had already begun. To make this as short as possible, he came back for money 3 more times asking for thousands of dollars made payable to himself each time within the next 2 weeks. He did no labor, nor did he stay to supervise the workers. He only would show up to pick up a check. Then you wouldnt see him again until he wanted more money. The end result being I paid this contractor a total of $30,250 before I stopped paying him. I stopped the work & stopped making more payments for 3 reasons: 1) the job had progressed very slowly in proportion to the amount of money he had already received; 2) If I gave him all the money before the job was finished, he might not have finished the job; & 3) I found out that according to the laws & codes of the Town where I resided, I had to have a Building Permit for the work being done, & a Town Inspection for the plumbing that was being done, & I was advised by the Town to get an Inspection for the electrical work as well. They informed me that before any inspections could be done, I had to have a Permit which would take 6-8 weeks for me to actually receive, because they were backlogged. So I called this contractor & confronted him for lying to me about the permit/inspections, & informed him what the Town told me. It's rather hard for me to believe he didn't know that the Town I live in may require a Permit, because he lives in the little town right next to my town. I told him I wasn't allowing his workers to do any more work in my home until I have a Permit. He said he would go up to the Town Bldg Dept., but at this point I didnt think I should rely on a Liar! So the very next business day I went to the Town Bldg. Dept. They gave me an application & scheduled an appointment for me to return with some documents & to help me fill out the application. After paying this contractor all $30,250, I had to pay $700 more out of my pocket to submit the application for the Permit. About a week later the Town called me to tell me that they needed the contractor's license & workers compensation id. I called the contractor & asked him to fax his papers to me, & he claimed his fax machine was broke. He said he had to go to FedEx to have it faxed to me in a couple of days. Days passed & I received nothing. Then the following week I received a phone call from a lady who said she was from the Town Bldg. Dept. She said that my contractor, "[redacted]" (by the way, contractor's name is [redacted] who worked for him in my house name is "[redacted]"), brought down his papers, & everything is taken care of, & he wanted her to call me to let me know that everything is done, & I should start looking for my permit to be in the mail in a couple of weeks. Approx. 2 -1/2 more weeks pass, I receive another phone call from the Town Bldg. Dept. who informed me that the workers compensation papers that were submitted by the contractor is for a business named [redacted]. & not for [redacted]. So a permit cannot be issued to me until proper papers are submitted to them. That is where I stand right now. I want a refund of the money I paid this Crook!!! Let me tell you what I did get for all that money I paid him: Lets start with the Master bathroom: no walls, no ceiling - only an open ceiling where I can look straight into my attic ( I've lived here for 11 yrs & have never seen the inside of my attic, until now!), no floor - just old wood planks, no toilet, no vanity or basin, no tub - just a brand new jacuzzi walk-in tub sitting there uninstalled, no light fixture installed -only hi-hats installed in an open ceiling & not connected to electricity, electrical wires hanging from everywhere not connected, exposed wires hanging out of electrical outlets, & exposed plumbing. A shower base "sealed" to the unfinished wood plank floor very close to the unfinished wood plank walls. So close that there's no room for a drywall to be erected. A new wider entrance door to the Master bathroom was put in, & large gaps are all around it because it's not framed, an inoperable skylite installed in the bathroom, which they removed some new roof shingles to install it! I would never have known that, had the contractor not asked me if I had any extra roof shingles lying around! You see, I had just had a new roof put on my house a week before this contractor started this job! Let me describe to you my Master Bedroom suite: a wall was removed between Master bedroom & another bedroom, a half of dry wall was erected for the new walk-in closet in that room that presently has no closet doors, no shelving, no racks or poles for hanging clothes, no paint & no descent wood floors in Master bedroom or adjoining room. The floor is discolored where wall was removed, no light fixtures installed, only electrical wires hanging from the ceiling of closet where light fixtures are to be installed & also electrical wires are hanging from the ceiling in the lounge part of that room. A portion of the right-side wall of that room is half erected. It use to be the entrance to that room from the hallway. A new picture window has replaced 2 separate windows in Master bedroom. The 2 windows were spaced apart with part of the wall the windows were on between them, which was removed to put in 1 large picture window. The picture window is not aligned correctly to the wall, have big gaps all around it where you can see straight outside through the gaps, & has a double large electrical wire pertruding from under the wall at top of window running all the way down the entire length of window & back under the wall that's under the bottom of the window. From my backyard, you can see black plastic insulation pertruding from the wood siding shingles where they forced the window to fit. They cut my wood siding shingles crooked & uneven at top of window & removed a couple of wood siding from under window. Inside this part of the house is unlivable. Doors have to be kept closed because of cold air coming into the Master bathroom & through picture window in Master bedroom! Also cold air seeps in from Master bathroom to hallway bathroom because the bathrooms are on either side of each other. During demolition, the pressure they used to knock out my Master bathroom walls caused the tile in the hallway bathroom to fall in the tub & break into pieces, which contractor said he would repair. The plumber removed covering & opened up the ceiling in my coat closet in downstairs foyer to work on pipes in the ceiling, & left it opened. He left a mess in my coat closet of insulation & dirt everywhere in that closet. The ceiling in my main entrance hall is cracked in 2 places due to his plumbing work. Contractor said he would repair those things as well. Right now I have a garage full of bathroom supplies just sitting there. I don't want to do any more business with this guy! He's proven that he's a Liar & cannot be trusted! I've reached out to get some help to fix the mess he left me. I'm in touch with someone else that have worked for me before who is willing to help me, but his work is not free. He's willing to work with me, but I need my money back so I can pay him! This contractor breached his own contract when he lied about the permit & inspections needed, so he could get his big greedy paws on money quickly. He did not consider anyone or anything, except his greed for money. This contractor's license should be revoked! He's one of those con-artist contractors that gives Home Improvement Contractors a bad reputation! Truly, Money is the root of all evil! It sure is in his case. I've done some checking on this guy & found out that he has had 3 complaints against him; 2 have been closed & 1 was still opened, the last I checked. I would not be surprised if this is not the first time he's done something like this. I hired this contractor in Sept. [redacted],2014, & stopped work from continuing on Oct.[redacted], 2014. In just that short amount of time, he managed to get me to pay him $30,250, & I don't consider myself a person who trusts others easily. The estimated time to complete the job he said would take 3-4 weeks. I am a senior, a widow, a woman living alone in a big house, & this contractor took advantage of that! I trusted him as the expert he kept claiming he was with 35 yrs of experience. I cooperated with him, even when I didn't want to, because I didn't want to cause any problems unnecessarily so the work could be finished as quickly as possible. I have medical problems, & could not sleep upstairs due to the amount of dust & dirt from the demolition. So I had to sleep on a narrow couch downstairs. it was horrible for someone with [redacted]. So this is my complaint. I really hope you can do more than just file this complaint. He needs to be stopped before he does this again to some other unsuspecting person. Don't want to talk to this guy by phone or in person. He can email me if he need to say anything to me. He's had time to make things right, but he hasn't. & Frankly, I don't trust him!Desired Settlement: Money paid, refunded immediately, Complaint filed & easily accessible to the public, strict action taken against his license i.e revoked or suspended with a fine.
