I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and find that this resolution would be satisfactory to me.

It has taken me a bit of time to speak out regarding the issue I have with this business due to the great amount of hurt and anger that was caused. I'm not filing a complaint simply because the business end of the dealings with this company was handled by my boyfriend and is in his name, not mine. Last month (June 2015), my boyfriend and I unexpectedly lost our unborn son and we selected Conkle Funeral Home in Speedway, IN to handle our son's final arrangements. Conkle retrieved our son from the hospital and my boyfriend met with them alone the next day to finalize everything, obviously considering my condition. We chose to forego a service and to have our son cremated. The staff member my boyfriend spoke to (I wasn't provided with any names) assured him that our son would be returned to us in a decorative box. Both my parents were cremated so I'm aware that this is normal, but my boyfriend was completely new to this. He told me they attempted to sell him an urn, but he thought it would be best to wait for me so that we could select one together. About a week or so later, Conkle called my boyfriend to pick up our son's remains. He'd received the call while picking up my daughter from school and went straight there. While there, my boyfriend placed a very disturbing call to me informing me that when he arrived, our son's remains were handed to him in a "Crown Royal like", velveteen sack along with the paperwork. Clearly not what we were expecting. We were devastated to say the least. He explained our expectations and asked how the staff would they feel if their loved ones were handled the same way. He told me the staff's response was to look at him with a straight face, say the crematorium changed their policy which they were unaware of until they received our son's remains and to, again, try to sell him an urn. It hurt both of us considerably to have our child handled this way. Furthermore, it angers me that my daughter, who accompanied my boyfriend to the funeral home, was also disturbed and brought to tears by this. It took a while for me to finally view my son's remains. Sadly, my boyfriend described the sack perfectly. No one should ever have to experience this. Conkle's website states: "We believe that the success of any business requires dedication and professionalism. In funeral service, in particular, it also requires a great deal of kindness, compassion and attention to detail." While I agree with this statement, I can not agree that any of this was shown to us. Some of our grief could have been eased by a simple courtesy call to inform us of this change prior to my boyfriend's arrival to collect our son's remains. We were re-traumatized by this event and received no solace. Conkle was extremely careless and unprofessional in their handling of this situation. My hope is that no one else ever experiences anything remotely similar to this again.
