Before Mr. [redacted] agreed to his iMac purchase on June 26th, 2017, our sales associate Simon was careful to go over the specifications with him line by line. This sign clearly states the model he was purchasing did indeed come with 8GB of RAM.   Simon did suggest that we upgrade the iMac from 8GB to 16GB or RAM for an additional fee. This is a standard option we offer all our customers. It may be possible Mr. [redacted] misheard Simon in some fashion.   When Mr. [redacted] came back to return the system five (5) days later on July 1, 2017, we informed him we are unable to accept returns of Apple computers without charging a 15% restocking fee. This is spelled out in in-store signage, and in detail on the Terms of Service page on our website (http://connectingpointonline.com/store/price-matching-returns-refunds/), stating as follows:   “All Apple computers may be returned within seven (7) days for a refund less a 15% restocking fee. When an Apple computer (laptop or desktop) is first used, it prompts the user to register the product under their unique Apple ID. Once that has been accomplished, it can never be undone. It is technically no longer a new computer, and cannot be treated as such by authorized resellers like Connecting Point. If we accept the return, we may not return that system to Apple or any Apple distributor. Instead, we are forced to sell that computer as a used or returned computer. For that reason, we must charge the 15% restocking fee.”   This was explained to Mr. [redacted], and Simon offered to sell him an upgrade to 16GB of RAM at dealer cost, and waive the installation fee. He declined, returned the system, along with an HP color laser printer, minus the 15% restocking fee for both items. An Apple accessory item and a keyboard cover were also refunded in full. We were unable to refund the price paid for AppleCare extended warranty service, since it had already been registered to the iMac he had purchased. Again, this is something that cannot be undone. That AppleCare serial number can never be re-used for a different computer.   Mr. [redacted]’s request for a refund of $4000 is puzzling. His original purchases totaled $3589.93 (invoices available on request). We have already refunded this amount, with the exception of $189.99 for AppleCare and the 15% restocking fees for his HP printer and iMac. We feel we have acted in good faith and in a logical and consistent fashion. However, as a gesture of goodwill, we will cheerfully refund Mr. [redacted] the restocking fees in full, in the form of in-store credit, which he may apply to any goods or services at Connecting Point within one (1) year of the original purchase date.
