Conrad Williams & Associates Reviews (1)

Review: Mr. Williams was contracted to complete remodeling of the bathroom and kitchen at my residence and run new pipes and drains throughout the home for more then $16,000. When the work was completed, we had to invest another $1000 clean up the filth, unsafe dust and dirt that his crews left behind. That investment is not the primary reason for my complaint. Mr. Williams has be called repeated about leaking and improperly installed plumbing fixtures and pipes that leak both inside and outside of the home. He is either incapable or unwilling to complete the contracted which began in early October and continued until several days before Thanksgiving in November. Now, in late December, he has made no effort to correct the problems that have the potential to create areas where mold will grow and present additional problems (health, damage to new fixtures, and additional cost).Desired Settlement: I shall need a refund of the plumbing costs, immediately, to pay a reputable plumber if Mr. Williams unwilling or unable to repair the areas of his faulty work.

Response:

Thank you for the opportunity to respond to this complaint. I obtained a signed contract to perform plumbing repair work for the house on October 12, 2013. The complainant wanted some additional work performed which resulted in a change order which updated the contract on October 14, 2013. I am providing a copy of the contract for your review with the relevant work to be performed and the cost quoted. The complainant has been informed multiple times from October to December to have the sewage drain outside of the house repaired. Failure to repair this drain means the lines leading into her house have the potential to back up. All work was completed in accordance to Virginia plumbing codes. While the home was over 50 plus years old my workers noted the interior of the home was not well kept. In order to even begin work my crew of about 6 persons had to remove about 30-40 bags of materials (we had to come in on a Saturday to do this before we could even start on the plumbing work) in order to reach the kitchen sink and floor. The kitchen sink was falling through the primary floor as well as the sub floor. The floor condition was so unsafe I was concerned my crew members might fall through. We tore the flooring and sub flooring up, removed all rotted wood beams, rebuilt the sub floor with new wood, applied backer board and then laid the primary linoleum floor. The kitchen walls were of such poor condition (covered in tack paper and paneled wood) that my crew and I had to install ¼ inch drywall upon completion of the floor. Permits were obtained and the work was inspected and certified upon completion by the City of Danville building inspector. Regarding the dust and dirt: all dust and dirt from the plumbing, new floor installation, and new ceiling installation (removal of the damaged ceiling areas) was cleaned up successfully over a three day period. The second floor received new pipes for the sink and tub. I left a crew member to vacuum the floors upstair and downstairs (I physically came on site to monitor his progress). The crew member ended up working for a total of seven days given the complainant asked him to do some additional painting and washing of dishes that were not in keeping with the work we were contracted to perform. Please note, my crew member to my knowledge did not receive any additional compensation from either myself or the complainant for the additional work. Again, thank you for allowing me the responding to this complaint. I have been a Master Plumber in the state of Virginia for over 40 years. I have received many letters complimenting me on my work and professionalism (can be provided upon request). I was named 3rd best plumber in the Pittsylvania County and Danville area in 2013 (Sunday March 3, 2013, www.[redacted]). Very Respectfully, Lee Williams Conrad Williams

Response:

I wish to clarify statements of untruth that Mr. Williams and associates have attested to in his response to the Revdex.com, as he is at my house, presently, attempting to repair a plumbing line that he said he had done correctly in November. When we returned from Christmas vacation just last evening, a leak had destroyed the wall between the bath and bedroom, destroying the carpet in the bedroom and creating additional concerns about the possibility of damage due to mold and other interior walls. This time, as apposed to other occasions, Mr. Williams and an assistant arrived near the time that they said they would arrive (8:00 am). It is now 2:19 pm, and he has not returned to complete the work, and we have no idea when he will return. This has been a pattern with Mr. Williams. He does a part of the work, says he will return to complete it at a latter date, but he never does complete the work. Outside plumbing drain lines have yet to be completed, the bathroom shower is still out of order, and now a bedroom (for the second or third times) must be put back together. This is poor business practice and dishonesty at the highest level. It appears, in my view, that this firm is unwilling to honor the contract, of which I, too, have a copy. If the City of Danville, indeed, inspected the firm's work, then its credibility, too, is under question. If the firm accepted the agreed upon payment from the consumers, then there is no reason for the consumers to accept sub-par work from one who claims he is a licensed professional. Can you advise these consumers on our next courses of action?

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID 9844817, and find that this resolution would be satisfactory to me. I will wait for the business to perform this action and, if it does, will consider this complaint resolved.Regards,[redacted]
