OK, the fact that there are more complaints re: VA Nat Gas just goes to show how irrelevant and incredulous BBB has become. VA Nat Gas is the worst! They are the only utility company that can't get a hold of the customer for gas turn on. I'm sure they can get a hold of the customer for gas shutoff, and they definitely can for emergency. Well, that same communication system that they have for emergencies, they don't seem to be able to use for gas turn on. They give you a 4-hour window like that's some kind of favor to you, but seem to have no way of letting you know when the tech is on the way. Supposedly, he/she must be out in the field with no way of communicating with a dispatcher or supervisor. Must be nice to have that kind of accountability in a 2000s company. They are liars and jerks. You can't take your kids to school or pick them up. You can't go to work. because they can't get a hold of the customer like Verizon, Cox, Duke Power, TECO, FL Power, Ga Power, Brighthouse, DISHTV or DirectTV does. According to Valerie, the Supervisor, none of the other utilities need the customer to be present. I'm sorry, but are they allowing the supervisors at VA Nat Gas to ingest bath salts at work, now??? Valerie, nice try, but I'm not that stupid, and you're not that clever.

On August 18th 2016 my husband alerted me that the water in our home was no longer getting hot. We started to check the hot water heater and other things around the house.

We are new to the area, so I decided to phone the water company because I thought that the gas was attached to either the water or electrical company. We called the water company and were advised we needed to contact the HOA of our neighborhood, they were the ones charging us. We made several phone calls and finally reached someone on the HOA that explained the gas is actually a separate bill.

Our real estate agents nor did the previous owner pass this information along to us. We called Virginia Natural Gas and explained that we were shocked and confused and just wanted to get everything straight so our gas would be turned back on.

Unfortunately, the person we spoke to was unsympathetic to our situation and it almost felt like she was blaming us. She stated that the owner called in to check on the account sometime in July and then cut it off on August 9th. She stated "She is not sure where the communication failed, but the owner did her part". Had we been informed we would have most definitely called to turn the gas on.

Also, I questioned why wouldn't anyone contact me and she very rudely pointed out that no one had our number because we didn't set up an account. Well of course I know that. But I would imagine the gas company does in fact know we are using gas and would know our address, so why wouldn't the company mail something giving us some type of notice to start an account.

Furthermore, there was not even a notice on our door alerting us to the fact the gas was turned off. We would have called immediately had we known. Why would we not want to start service for a house we just bought??

The representative advised us that it would not be cut on for 24 hours. I told her that it wasn't even our fault we were unaware is there anyway we can do it today and I am 8 months pregnant too. She said the only thing she could do was put us on a wait list.

I just find it absurd that a company would come and turn off the gas and not put some type of notice on the door or send something in the mail. We are new to Virginia and previously our gas was attached to our electric bill and water bill in another place. I felt like the rep didn't believe what I told her, but the real estate agent never advised us that the gas was separate and I am not sure why the owner would not convey that someone new was living in the home when she called about cutting off her service so that the gas company could mail us a notice to start service.

I am also upset there was no notice on the door. I feel like when the previous owner called and advised to have the gas turned off that representative felt that it was unnecessary to mail something to the new owners and that we were apparently thought it was okay to not set up an account! If a person is new to the area they may not be aware that the gas is separate so when the previous owner called it would have been nice for that rep to at least inquire about what to do if the new owners have not set up an account instead of allowing it to be shut off.
