Complaint3 year old roof leaked, causing damage in my garage. Company would not accept responsibilty. This letter I am sending to the company describes the situation, I have left off my name, etc for privacy.Dear [redacted],I am writing because of the problem with my roof installed by your company in May 2012. To refresh your memory, last fall I asked you to come to my house because there was major water damage and mold in my garage. Although I believed the damage was caused by a problem with the roof, you stood on the driveway and insisted that it was not the roof. You told me that this was a problem that occurred often and was common in houses designed with the roof line I had; leaves building up in an area and water getting underneath the flashing. You continued by telling me that there were things that could be done to prevent problems in the future, including making the flashing higher, redirecting the water, installing additional gutters, and constantly keeping the roof and gutters free from debris. When I asked why (when I hired your company for the job) if you knew this was a problem just waiting to happen, you didn't tell me about the remedial measures that could be done to prevent the potential problems, you flippantly said, "You didn't ask." How in the world was I supposed to know to ask? You are the professional, and just as I go to a doctor and expect him to guide me, I would have expected the same from you.I continued to have the leaking problem and, at my expense, had another roofer come in to evaluate and assess it. He found several issues, including flashing installed improperly. On January 30th, 2015, I met with you again at your office, shared the assessment and evaluation of the roofer and not only did you continue to deny any responsibility, you also tried to discredit the roofer. You did tell me that you would have someone come out and install a rain/water diverter. You also gave me the names of a drywall person and gutter installer, whom you called and asked them to take care of my garage, at my expense. No one ever installed the diverter and your people never returned my calls. I did have the gutters professionally cleaned again and they are clear. On April 14th we had a heavy rain, causing flooding in local areas. The ceiling in the garage leaked and water ran down the wall. Because you have refused to address the issues caused after your company installed my roof, I was forced to hire another roofer to fix the problems. We've had several heavy rains since the work was done and there is no leaking. And now I must find someone to fix the garage wall, ceiling and repaint everything. My roof is less than 3 years old and this shouldn't have happened.I am lodging a formal complaint with the Revdex.com, requesting that I be reimbursed for the work needed on the roof and the necessary repairs in my garage. If we are unable to resolve this now, I will consider other means.Cc: Revdex.comDesired SettlementI am requesting that I be reimbursed for the remedial work needed on the roof to fix the problems and the necessary repairs in my garage to restore it.Roof work $1,137.50Garage repair not yet done.Thank youBusiness Response /[redacted]/Contact Name and Title: [redacted] Sr PresidentContact Phone: XXX-XXX-XXXXContact Email: [redacted]@crstoroof.comMay 4, 2015I am in receipt of the report #XXXXXXXX from [redacted]. With [redacted]'s home, like so many in this area, when the home is built and a transition valley is directed into a wall, there is a potential of water hitting the wall and running under the siding and over the step flashing. In [redacted]'s home she has not one roof but (3) three roof lines that dump water onto one area. Taking this into account, if you have any leaves, pinestraw or debris settling in this area it will form a dam over a period of time, thereby compounding the problem.Taking this into effect, [redacted] took a job up north and left her home for over one year. Upon returning she found her entire house had flooded. Now all of a sudden not only does she have severe plumbing problems she gets upset with Consolidated about the above roof area. It was very clear that debris had been laying on this area for some time. You could still see the stains on the shingles.I told her then and will continue to tell her, we will come out and preform a water test to force it to leak. If the problem is our workmanship we will gladly fix it. We even told her how to solve the problem area. With that she said, "Let me think about it since I have so much going on with the plumbing problem".I never heard another word until she came into our office several months later. We talked again about the problem and how to fix it. Again I said we would do a water test and I could change the roofline on that wall at her expense; which she declined. I then told her we could put a "band aid" on the problem by putting a rain diverter at the corner, but with three roof lines coming down to that point it would only be a temporary fix at best. Not once have I heard of this other roofer of who I would be more than happy to speak to; as to who he is and what he has done.As for her garage; it is very evident that her garage has leaked in many places before this occurred. Anything that has happened due to any of our workmanship will be assessed and corrected as we have and always will. In 37 years we have had very little call back on our work; but when we do we stand behind that work.Again I am willing to meet with the roofing company that she hired, go over any work they corrected on our work and, if we are at fault, fix that work or pay for the repair caused by our work. As for the garage, the roof did not cause all of her problems but again if we are at fault and the roof work was the problem we will repair that damaged part.I am sorry for Mrs. [redacted]'s frustrations; she had much larger problems caused by leaving the home for over a year with the plumbing flooding her house. I will wait to hear from Mrs. [redacted]'s roofer and/or her.Respectfully,[redacted], Sr.RVS/slpConsumer Response /[redacted]/Mr [redacted] is reporting misinformation. I was gone from my house for 3 months, not a year as he states and it was not left unattended. A neighbor was hired to check in. An original toilet on the second floor leaked, not a new roof, and the neighbor didn't notice it until there was damage on the first floor. This has absolutely nothing to do with the roof, I said it, and he knows that. Mr [redacted] is trying to distract from the issue at hand. Shame on him. After talking with him in the fall, I took him at his word, still skeptical, but wanting to believe him about the cause of the problem. I had the roof and gutters professionally cleaned. Since he had unequivocally told me it was not the roof and/or his company's work, when I continued to notice the leak and water damage in the garage, I paid for an independent roofer to assess the situation. I then returned to Mr [redacted] with the pictures and evidence. At this point when I visited Mr [redacted], he again flat out refused to accept responsibility and/or repair the problems. I never refused to have a water test, and just as he said, that he would have someone install a water diverter, etc. this never happened. After another heavy rain and more leaking, I had no other choice but to hire someone else to do the work. I have additional pictures from the roofer from before the work was done and then completed.Mr [redacted] knew there were problems and ways to solve them, he states that above, and yet he did not inform me of them before installing the new roof. I could have had him solve the problems at that time and avoid all this.I'm shocked to hear Mr. [redacted] say he has never heard of the roofer, when in fact he told me that the roofer had worked for him. I fear, inspite of his words, his actions demonstrate that he doesn't have any intention of standing behind his work. Now, he says he would do the work, when he knows that the roof has already been repaired. At this point, I have lost confidence in Consolidated Roofing, their work and their word. I continue to expect them to pay for the evaluation of the roof and repairs, and the garage repair.I am prepared to seek alternative ways to remedy this situation. It's been said that 1 unhappy customer can cause more ill will and damage to a business than 100 happy ones. Final Consumer Response /[redacted] 2015/05/12) */[redacted]Document [redacted]If Mr. [redacted] truly followed his words, "We experience a negligible number of call backs on our work but when we have them our goal is to solve the problem and maintain our customer satisfaction." we wouldn't be in the situation we are in now. I spoke with him 3 separate times, (with documentation in hand, and he saw the water damage in the garage) to give him the opportunity to solve the problem. He refused to accept responsibility and again made it clear to me, in no uncertain terms, that "it was not the roof."I will not ask the roofer who repaired the damage to meet with Mr. [redacted]. I don't think it's appropriate, nor will I subject the roofer to Mr. [redacted]'s dismissive ways. I have attached the invoice and pictures.Thank youFinal Business Response /[redacted]/ May 13, 2015Revdex.com Case #XXXXXXXXReference #XX-XXX-XXXXXXXX-XX-XXXXWe are in receipt of [redacted]'s last reply dated May 12, 2015. Where she stated "I will not ask the roofer who repaired the damage to meet with Mr. [redacted]" and "Nor will I subject the roofer to Mr. [redacted]'s dismissive ways". With those remarks she sent an invoice for $1,137.50, which I have attached. As you can see a roof inspection and gutter work were included in her figures.I called the roofer, who I believe to be an honest, reliable roofer, Mr. [redacted] In discussing his findings with regards to Mrs. [redacted]'s home, he immediately said, "I told Mrs. [redacted] that, if all of the pine straw and debris were not in the valley, and it had been kept clean, she would not have had the problem". Also after he removed the shingles in the valley, he confirmed with Mrs. [redacted] that we had done the work correctly and installed everything according to our contract. He confirmed what we told her on day one. The valley design on her roof is not good and requires you to keep the pine straw, leaves, and debris out of the valley or it will cause a damning effect and water will back up causing a leak. After reviewing our files and speaking with her roofer, who inspected our work and found no errors in workmanship on our part, we are declining to pay the invoice. I hope Mrs. [redacted] realizes if you neglect the home maintenance inside or outside it can cause problems. I understand she's frustrated but we did the roof work correct and her roofer confirmed that. Sincerely, [redacted], Sr.
