I hired Smith Iron works to sand, prime and paint gates as well as put bars on so my dog could not get out of the back yard In addition, I paid them to put custom locks and handles which were supposedly going to be special ordered First, on two of the gates, the bars that they added were not high enough to keep the dog from trying to get through them and were a safety concern as she could have impelled herself They initially put dead bots on that all you had to do was reach around and unlock them defeating the purpose of having them at all MrSmith also told me that he was going to make custom hinges which he did not do He put the same hinges back on and they were barely painted over When I called MrSmith he was ever so nice as he had not had time to go to the bank and cash my check My husband did some research and found that there was a similar incident and we knew if we did not cancel the check we would probably not see him again as he told us it would be a week or so before he would come back Once we canceled the check, he sent his guys the next day However, after they left the locks were still not catching and about to fall of the next day We only noticed this after going in and out of them several times When I called him back, he had cashed my check so the pleasantries were out the window and he was screaming at me He told me that he had put the most expensive locks and handles on my gate That was a lie I took them off and took the to ***'s where they were the cheapest thing right there off of the shelf I had called around to find the brand ***s was nice enough to take them back and let me pay the difference to get a better quality MrSmith told me he put these in million dollar home I doubt it It cost me about $more to have a locksmith put on the good locks so my dog would be safe However, the dead bolts still did not catch as they were custom and not made to fit properly At least I could lock the handles now After about a day, it rained and my gates started rusting They had not been primed and painted properly When I called MrSmith about this he sounded intoxicated to me and screamed at me and told me that women like me could not be pleased and hung up on me He told me that he took $off of the over $3,to make me happy No, he did this because I said I wanted to be compensated for the hinges that he did not custom make like he promised That was before I realized that the priming had not been done and the painting was sub par He has not sent anyone back as he promised to prime and repaint the gates
[redacted] the owner is a very vulgar man, inconsiderate and very rude. He and his workers work out of a shed behind a duplex, throw cigarette butts into people's yards. Work from 6am to 12 am sometimes, banging and cutting, not caring for families in their neighborhood. They paint outside having the paint fly everywhere into people's faces, into children's play area. Wielding and grinding metal outside, the stench is unbearable. I wouldn't do any business with a man who disregards the health of families or children.
