Cook Remodeling and Custom Construction Reviews (6)

The guidelines established by the [redacted] allow the contractor the opportunity to come back and do the repair work as needed. We would like that opportunity. The drywall repair is a fairly simple repair and would include painting as needed. Regarding the streaks in the laminate floor, I had difficulty seeing the streaks when they were pointed out to me by the customer. Before proceeding I would request that an impartial licensed flooring contractor approved by both parties inspect the floor and determine if the steaks were caused by water damage. If they were then we will definitely arrange and pay for the needed repair. Would like to get this done quickly so both parties can put this behind us. Sincerely,[redacted]

Mr. [redacted] did not make any attempt to cover our roof-He put a small piece of plastic on the side. It is false that he tried to prevent water damage. The workers admitted to us the morning after the flood that they did not cover the roof. Mr. [redacted] had warned us that water could come in, a few days prior, if not covered. But, he did not put any cover on the roof for that rain storm. This was fully preventable. After the flood we demanded an insurance adjuster on his policy come to the home. We have a saved email of this conversation also, where he initially said he'd make a claim. We complained a few days later again-no response. He gave some credits on other damages caused due to the company's negligence-we just guessed on the dollar amounts to cover those items since he refused to bring in his insurance adjuster. [redacted] did repair other areas of drywall and flooring but not all of it. However, we never got credit for the drywall damage, nor the laminate floor damages left unrepaired. He was aware of these additional damages-again he had no response. When he closed our job on Oct. 17th we clearly stated we were unhappy and would never use him again. He again never responded. He never said "What can I do to make you happy?" His flooring contractor noted it would cost at least $900.00 in labor to replace the damaged floor. At $40.00 per box to replace with new product it would be an additional $400.00. The drywall and repainting repairs noted in the family room would probably be in the $500.00 range. This leaves a total dollar amount due to us of $1,800 plus taxes. We are expecting to be compensated for this amount so that we can proceed to fix with another contractor, back to the original condition.

Yes we did build a covered patio attached to the home for this customer and did have some significant water damage in the home due to a hard rain. We knew there was a chance of rain that night and installed plastic on the roof in the transition area between the existing roof and the addition in...

the areas that normally would be most susceptible to water leakage but we did miss two areas where most of the water came in. It is difficult to completely prevent water infiltration in situations like this but we do take full responsibility for not doing a better job of protecting their home. I met with the owners and immediately after the damage occurred and started the process of cleanup, replacing sheetrock, insulation, flooring, repainting, etc., with the goal of restoring their home to it's previous condition. After everything had been done I met with the homeowners. They mentioned several items that they weren't completely happy with and suggested that I give them credits for these items. I agreed to that and also to the dollar amounts that they suggested. I left on what I thought were good terms.

Sincerely,

Review: We hired above contractor to put in a covered patio. During one week of this job there were several days of predicted rainy weather. The contractor had cut into the roof to connect the patio. On one of these predicted rainy days, the contractor left the site without any roof covering-it rained hard and flooded the adjacent family and living rooms due to a lack of covering. It damaged an expensive sofa chair, caused our laminate floor to bubble and it is still full of water streaks. Also, the entire drywall in the family room was engulfed in water damage. The contractor fixed most things. However, during his final walk-through we noted the floor had streaks from the water damage, the family rm. drywall on the south and east walls still had cracks, indentations due to water damage.Desired Settlement: Refund floor damages and repair drywall damages
