Cooper Palm Moving & Storage Reviews (%countItem)

Reading the other reviews, it seems that they routinely under estimate jobs to get you to sign, then end up charging you significantly more. I originally purchased a deal on groupon, and when I called to set up my move, it was determined that my groupon deal wasn't valid for my move. I asked the person on the phone to quote me an estimate and he immediately started spitting out numbers, I asked him if he could send me a written one, he said only a salesperson could do that, and he would have one call me back. (That should have been enough of a clue to run away but I was already $290 in the hole with Groupon deal).
A couple of days later I called back, they asked about the size of the house, number of bedrooms, etc. Then quoted me a 4 hour move with 2 hours of travel time.
They then called me back about 2 weeks later on the 11th and said that if I didn't confirm that I was moving on the 17th they were going to cancel me. I then searched through email, found a lone email with a link to sign the estimate, signed, confirmed with representative that we were all set and thought I was done.
The Saturday before my Monday move they called my home at 10am, and left a VM that I had to call them back by noon to pay them or they were going to reschedule my move. I was not at the house at the time and did not get the message until I checked my email Sunday night to determine what time the movers would arrive, only to find out that it had been rescheduled! It is important to note that the estimate had a 10% deposit on it only, and they had more than that through groupon. There was no mention of having to pay BEFORE THEY ARRIVED or performed any services.
Monday morning I called them in a Panic (as we were packed and had no way to live in old home) and they sent 2 movers out to start at 10am. I had everything staged for them, with 3 lines of stuff in garage, beds disassembled, and furniture in bedrooms facing door for easy carryout. The 4 hours they quoted me ended up taking 12 hours! that is a 300% error. They understaffed the move (sending 2 movers), who had to spend an excessive amount of time playing Tetris with my furniture because 45 sq feet of the truck was taken up with blankets (after they wrapped up the furniture). There was literally 2 stacks taller than both movers and a third box.
In the end, despite not having a dinning table, no desks in study, 1 bedroom with only a bed, they still left stuff most of my tools in the garage, because they needed the room for their pads rather than my property. Having exerted so much energy loading the truck, the two movers struggled and were dragging unloading it... taking as much time as it took to load.
I would highly recommend finding a more reputable mover that will come in do an inspection and give you a firm quote. This one routinely under estimates jobs, then makes you pay up front and has you sign an hourly agreement that is more than original cost (in my case $720 estimated, $960 in extra hours, for a total of $1680 to move 50 miles.

Company did kind of a bait and switch scheme. Quoted 7.75 hours and fuel surcharge of $110 for a total of $1600. "EST PRICE RANGE: $1550 - $1650"

ACTUAL COST came in at 7.50 hours and fuel surcharge of $150 for a total of $1950. In my opinion, that is consumer fraud.

Also, they have not returned four bed post toppers and have kept an expensive 4' pottery vase.

Thank you for the opportunity to respond to this complaint as we were just reviewing the negative review placed by the customer. The customer was provided with a non-binding estimate for services that detailed the hourly rate and corresponding travel/fuel charges for a move that is considered to be intra-state. The signed Bill of Lading shows the final billing will be incomplete as there was not a set number of hours of work. We operate at the sole discretion of our customer and their requests.

There were 2 additional stops included for one large piece purchased in Fischer, Tx and the 1st stop at a storage facility in Austin picking up a bed and an armoire. The large piece was actually a concrete statue that needed to be thoroughly wrapped for protection. We loaded out considerably more from the storage unit besides the bed and armoire. From the original house, we loaded out items and furniture, as directed, and the boxes that were ready and suitable for safe transport. Many items were left at the house because the house was simply not move-ready or packed properly.

At the unload 1.5 hours away, the crew was asked to not park on the new driveway thus giving the crew a much longer carry for all the items in the truck.

An estimate for services is the common practice in the industry and we kept the BOL open since there were so many variables that could and did change the scope of work. It was the change in the scope of work that accounts for the adjustment in the final price. The additional hours needed to complete the job were due to the changes requested by the customer.

We feel our charges are completely justified and welcome a scheduled mediation with all parties involved.

Thank you again for the opportunity.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:

Please see attached documents. As *** and *** were speaking on a speaker phone for the approval of the second stop....*** told *** he was getting paid by the hour and it was approved. ***, look at the attachments and notice actual hours were less than bid and the fuel surcharge was higher than bid. Charging more than the bid, both hourly and for fuel is consumer fraud. Plus, the moving company has some of our items. That is theft.

Regards

I contracted for a local move in July 2018. I contacted the company after the move was completed the very next day because of issues with the move. The move was to include providing wardrobe boxes for me to pack my hanging items. I requested a few extra of those cartons when I paid the deposit for the move. When the movers arrived, they DIDN'T have any of the wardrobes as promised. The mover did then take the moving blankets and placed my hanging items in them and "folded" the blankets over the items. This move broke five of my plastic hangers.
In addition, I call the very next day because of how the movers "stacked" the boxes. The boxes were stacked floor to ceiling (and I am 5'2"), so it would be impossible for me to get to those items to unpack. At that telephone call, I requested the form to submit the claim because of the damage sustained by the movers. I again requested that information about 3 weeks later. I never received the information on how to file a claim until I again reached out to the company for the claim for. The last time, they did respond stating that the claim was outside of the window allowed. Since they never provided the information for me to file the claim timely, I feel that they need to allow the claim to be filed.

The mover's did acknowledge they would send the information on the day after the move because they had to send out a mover to correct where the items were to have been moved into, as well as moving the boxes, etc. that were stocked floor to ceiling.

The movers did a terrible job. I was told that the floor lamps would be packed and loaded by the movers. The one floor lamp with the glass shade was taken apart by the mover, and the glass shade was packed in a mover's blanket, but the shade broke. This is part of a three pack of lamps. The exact items are no longer available, but a somewhat similar set was on line for $195.00.

In addition, the movers took my outdoors swing. This item had a canopy that attached to the frame. The movers removed the canopy and put both items into their trucks. After the trucks were unloaded, the hardware parts for this item were not provided. The movers "couldn't find them".

The movers also broke both my leather seated wooden rocking chair and my computer work desk.

The total cost of the damage is $1,000.00 based on the prices gather to replace the broken lamp set, the repair of the rocking chair and computer desk and the repair of the outdoor swing.

We are very sorry to hear that you had a problem with your move. We do recall sending a mover over the next day to lower the stacks but our office manager does not recall any other issues that needed our attention. We would be happy to send out our furniture repair technician to handle any damaged furniture as well as the damaged lampshade reimbursement. We apologize for your inconvenience and we strive to intercept and handle any problems promptly but we simply don't have record of your calls or emails other than November 12th. Please let us know the best contact number to have the repairman contact you and set an appointment. Thank you.

This is one of the worse experiences I have had with a business. The actual cost of packaging and moving items came to more than 250% than the original quote.
Some items were not packaged properly and they were misplaced. We had to have a pendulum for a clock custom made.
The very worst was the loss of a remote control for a fan in our bedroom and the owner says there is no proof that they lost it. I followed his instructions and took photos of out items. We did not move it.
We spent all summer, which was brutally hot, without a fan in our bedroom.
The insurance we purchased was worthless. We now have purchased a new fan and face additional expenses of installation and work by an electrician.
We only spoke to the owner, Blake, when he made the sale. When we had issues, he had different employees respond. Some of his employees are poorly trained and they have high turnover. I would not recommend this terrible company.

This company scammed my fiance and I. One of their employees came to our apartment in May and took inventory of our things to move across the country. He sent us several incorrect quotes over a few weeks (which should have been our first red flag), but we had spent so much time trying to get it right we wanted to move forward. Right before our move (with no time to find another moving company), they called us and said they had entered "peak season" and would have to significantly increase our cost in order to move our apartment. We tried contacting their owner Blake to explain the situation, but he never called back. Even though we had agreed on an amount in our contract, they just refused to move us unless we paid them more.
Apparently this is a trick they use in the industry, but we wanted to warn others about this company.
