Cooperstown Accommodations Reviews (%countItem)

In October 2019 I put a deposit down on the *** through Patsy at Cooperstown Accommodations for the week of August 22, 2020. I paid in full on March 1, 2020. On March 20, 2020, Cooperstown canceled the entire summer Dreams Park tournaments due to Covid 19. Patsy and the homeowner of the Builders house are refusing to return my deposit is $1140. We cannot travel to Cooperstown per NYS guidelines. The Dreams park website recommends this as one of their rentals, yet now Patsy says they aren’t affiliated and don’t have to give back our money. We are all suffering and would give anything to play in cooperstown, but it is criminal that they are keeping so much money from so many people.

We were coming to Cooperstown for the Baseball Tournament. It was cancelled like everything else in the state. Patsy S stated that the refund policy was changing to get a refund. Patsy was the real estate agent. The owner of the property that we rent refunded 100% of their money. Patsy kept her portion of the deposit ($210). The owner of the property said "Patsy should refund 100% of the funds. Patsy has not and does not return phone calls/etc.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
THE OWNER OF THE PROPERTY RETURNED THEIR $210 DEPOSIT. THE OWNER WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT 100% OF THE FUNDS WOULD BE REFUNDED. COOPERSTOWN ACCOMODATIONS DECIDED AFTER THE FACT TO NOT RETURN THEIR $210 PORTION OF THE REFUND. THE RULES AND CONDITIONS WERE CHANGED DUE TO COVID-19. WAS THE PROPERTY RENTABLE? NO. WE WERE TOLD WE WERE GETTING A FULL REFUND. THE OWNER DID HER PART. IT'S TIME FOR THE BOOKING AGENT TO DO HER PART. REFUND THE REMAINING $210.

THE TELLING THING FOR ME IS THAT SHE WILL NOT RETURN PHONE CALLS OR EMAIL REQUESTS FOR PHONE CALLS. STOP HIDING. DO WHAT THE OWNER OF THE PROPERTY EXPECTED. REFUND THE $210.

This company is price gouging. They are keeping 25% deposit in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. The tournament and travel/gatherings to that area have been cancelled by Cooperstown and the government. A full refund of a deposit made in good faith is the right solution.
Anything else is simply price gouging and stealing from consumers.

On March 12th I made a reservation through Cooperstown Accommodations for a vacation in August. On March 26th I cancelled the reservation because of the worldwide pandemic and the fact that Governor Cuomo was urging people to stay home and stay safe. Since March 26th I have repeatedly tried to contact this company through phone calls and emails. On May 7th I received one half of my deposit back with a statement saying it was "the owner's portion of the deposit". I am still trying to receive the rest of my deposit.

Never in the 20 years Copperstown Accommodations has been in business has there been a worldwide pandemic. New York has been shut down since March, Governor Cuomo has said to stay away, within the last week Governor Cuomo has mandated people from Delaware quarantine for 14 days, there was no service provided that warrants keeping $180. No check-in, no cleaning, no linens provided because we cannot come. Major airlines, hotels, cruise companies, etc. all have cancellation policies that have been voided due to the worldwide pandemic. This company needs to adjust to the deadly virus that is not only destroying our economy but also our mental health worrying who in our families will be infected.

Thousands of dollars is being retained by this unethical, unprofessional and unconscionable company. Take a look at the reviews on their website. None are complimentary. May be time to contact an attorney who will take the case pro-bona and get everyone's deposits back.

We booked a rental home through Cooperstown Accommodations for baseball. Baseball was cancelled due to covid so we contacted Patricia L. Soule the licensed real estate broker who we had dealt with for a refund. She wrote in an email to us that they were rewriting their cancellation policy. After months of effort she refunded all but 675.00. The homeowners refunded all however Patricia kept the 675.00.

The home owner refunded their portion. Patricia sent an email to us stating they were rewriting their refund policy after Covid. There are numerous complaints against them. In addition to this complaint we have contacted solve it 7 news, the attorney general, and lastly if none of these avenues are able to assist us we will move forward with our lawyer. It's not about the $675. This is unethical.

We reserved a house through Cooperstown Accommodations for June 19th-26th 2020. I am so unbelievably disappointed and frustrated that I’m even having to write a complaint about getting the remainder of MY deposit back due to a global pandemic which is $455.00. Cooperstown Accommodations is the only place that is choosing to not refund us full refund. I have been emailing back and forth with Cooperstown Accommodations since March trying to get this resolved. I would send several emails and would not get a response for several days to a week. I called many many times with no answer. The policy stated we would receive our refund if they could re book the house for the dates we reserved it for. WE did not cancel this reservation...THEY canceled the entire summer due to COVID-19, a pandemic that no one ever thought would happen. I just don’t see how they can keep our money under these circumstances that are out of any of our control and was completely unforeseen. I just want MY hard earned money back of $455.00. I will continue to reach out to who I need to so people know how Cooperstown Accommodations operates and to get my money back.

Cooperstown Accommodations refused to refund our deposit of their commissions. When contacted they said they did not care about us informing anyone about them but they would not refund our money. We are a family that was traveling to Cooperstown for a week long reservation August 14-21, 2020.We rented a home via cooperstown accommodations for the week. We paid $2324.80 total. $600 for a deposit on 1/5/2020 and $1724.80 the second payment by 3/11/2020. We were informed via email on 3/21/2020 from Cooperstown Accommodations that our reservations was cancelled due to COVID19 and we would receive a refund. We received a refund on 3/30/2020 in the amount of $1724.80 with no explanation. I emailed that day asking for an explanation on why we were not fully refunded and why they were keeping $600 deposit. The response from Cooperstown Accommodations was to contact the owner for the balance. I did that and Ruth stated she would be sending a refund. Ruth sent a refund that we received on 4/8/202, with a letter a copy of her check stub stating that she had only been paid $301 of the $600 and the letter stated to call Cooperstown Accommodations for the remaining amount. I emailed Cooperstown Accommodations 4/8/2020, they responded with another form letter response that did not answer where the remaining balance of $299 was. They claim that the owner agreed to send back the deposit buy they have not. They also state that it is the CHANGE POLICY they have made after the fact that says they can do this. On 4/9/2020, they refused again to send back the $299. I replied stating that we are not satisfied. That they cancelled our reservations due to COVID19, we did not cancel our reservation. I stated we will not be satisfied until they return the full deposit.
The kept a balance of a deposit was to be kept in case of damages, not due to a pandemic that caused them to cancel our reservation. We would like them to refund the remaining $299 they have kept.

Revdex.com:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and find that the complaint can be closed. They are not accurate in the details. We did not cancel our reservation. After filing this Revdex.com complaint, we requested our credit card company dispute the remaining balance. It was the credit card company who found that CA did not have reason to keep the remain funds, $300, and those funds were returned to us. They have handled this situation in an unprofessional manner from the start. If it wasn't for our credit card company, we would not have had our funds returned. There are many families that are disputing these issues with CA, they are on social media talking about it regularly.

However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic all of the all of the games at the *** have been cancelled for the season, as well as many other regional activities. Due to this unfortunate situation there is no reason for my family to be in Cooperstown. Therefore, on March 25, 2020 (approximately 5 full months prior to the reservation date) I requested a refund of the $2,116.80, which I had paid in advance for these accommodations.
Unfortunately, Patricia Soule owner of Cooperstown Accommodations refused to refund my total amount. Patricia returned only $1426.80 and withheld $690 (approximately 1/3) of the total amount stating that this is their policy. Keeping 1/3 of the money is highway robbery. These are extreme times and I did not cancel on a whim. The town is shutdown. I need to my remaining $690 back.

There are also multiple other families that we have spoken with that are also being refused refunds from this company.

Revdex.com:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Thank you so much for your response, and of course, your assistance in this matter. However, I thought that I had responded on June 18. However when I look at my complaint I see no option to respond to the related messages on the message screen.Ultimately, the issue was not satisfactorily resolved. What really concerns me regarding this situation with Cooperstown Accommodations, Inc. is; even during the global Coronavirus pandemic, which is why we needed to cancel (5 months in advance), they don't care. It's all about the money too Ms Soule . In ordinary times, I could understand their stance. But, we are senior citizens during a health crisis, and all of the other activities in Cooperstown were cancelled. Our cancelling was not a simple change of plans, it was necessary, and certainly not was it last minute. However the business feels a need to keep $690. That is just horrible!Anyway, Thank you again for your help.

Regards

I had reservation with this company Cooperstown Accommodations. We had to cancel not on our request, but the tournament was canceled on March 20, 2020. & the state of NY. I contacted the company to cancel. It took several attempts by phone and emails. Finally they canceled and returned a portion of the amount. They kept $580.00 which was the initial deposit. In the initial contract it stated we would get all but 100.00 refund if canceled, if they could not re-rent. Under these circumstance of the COVID-19 THEY CAN NOT RE RENT. This is not any fault of ours. other agencies or individuals are giving 100% refunds no questions asked.

On 1/14/2020 *** reserved an accommodation as shown on his reservation confirmation attached. She paid an initial deposit of $585 by credit card.
As part of his reservation process, she agreed to the Cooperstown Accommodations Terms and Conditions, a copy is also attached. The cancellation policy, item 2 of the Terms and Conditions states "Reservation Deposits are nonrefundable unless Cooperstown Accommodations can re-rent the cancelled week. If re-rented, the deposit will be refunded minus a $100 nonrefundable reservation fee.
Ms *** cancelled her reservation by email on March 21, 2020. This accommodation has not been re rented.

In addition item 3 of the General section of the Terms and Conditions covers events beyond the control of Cooperstown Accommodations, Inc.
A portion of Ms *** deposit ($293} has been sent to the home owner. The remainder has been retained by Cooperstown Accommodations as a real estate commission.
We have been notified by the owner that he wishes to refund his portion directly to Ms *** and we believe that has happened. This is a voluntary action and not a Cooperstown Accommodations refund.
The Cooperstown Accommodations portion of this deposit remains non refundable as per the Terms and Conditions.

We were coming in for the week long baseball tournament for my son this year and reserved a house from this group. Because of the COVID-19, the tournament has been canceled. When we got our refund check in the mail this week, it was short $600 which was the deposit amount. I read the part of the contract where it said if canceling the reservation in a certain time period that the deposit would not be returned but this circumstance is out of our control and the only reason why we are canceling is because the whole tournament got canceled. There is no reason why the full amount of the reservation should not be refunded by this group.

We rented a house through Cooperstown Accommodations on October 1, 2019 for August 2020 in the amount of $4202. We found out on Friday, March 20 that the *** tournament was canceled for the summer due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At that time we called and emailed Cooperstown Accommodations asking for a refund. We heard back on Tuesday, March 24 saying that we we would receive a refund but not receive a refund for our initial deposit of $1140. That is 25% of the total expense lost due to something beyond our control when we canceled over four months in advance. In addition, we were initially told verbally by Cooperstown Accommodations that the deposit money was already given to the homeowner and we would need to reach out to that individual. When we did, we were told Cooperstown Accommodations was responsible for all accounting and to reach back out to them. We are requesting assistance from the Revdex.com to help recover our rental fees and the many other families that booked through them for this summer.

Customer Response • Mar 30, 2020

We did receive a check back for $3062 in the mail today. We are still requesting a check back for the original deposit of $1140.

Cooperstown Accommodations Response • Apr 23, 2020

In the Customer's complaint he attached a copy of his reservation confirmation. The Cancellation Policy for this reservation is stated on that confirmation and reads that the reservation is non refundable unless the accommodation can be rebooked. The Terms and Conditions are agree to by the guest at the time of booking.

In light of the extreme circumstances we face this year and in order to provide an equitable solution to both our property owner and their guests, the property owners have authorized us to modify the terms of the non refundable policy to allow a refund of the final balance payment which includes any taxes. and security deposits paid. That payment was sent by our office and was received by the customer.
Enclosed is a letter sent to each guest explaining in detail the policy modification.

In addition paragraph 3. Of the General Terms and Conditions discusses other aspects of the guests complaint.

Thank you,
Cooperstown Accommodations, Inc.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

The deposit was $1040 for services that were never rendered. This is an extreme cancellation fee that is completely unacceptable. There are many families that are seeing these excess fees for many properties surrounding ***. We would have never cancelled if the baseball tournament was being held this summer. Unfortunately, the nation is in crisis during a national pandemic. The tournament itself made the decision to cancel. For Cooperstown Accommodations to keep 25%+ of rental fees in exchange for no services/goods exchanged is irresponsible and wrong.
