Review: In the process of performing repairs to my vehicle, Corvette Repair Inc. damaged the engine of my vehicle either through incorrect process or work performance. The damage caused by Corvette Repairs resulted in a bent engine valve and had to be repaired at a separate automotive shop at a cost of $1050. The repair shop that ultimately repaired the engine damage confirmed the damage could only be caused as a result of the work performed at Corvette Repair, Inc. in Valley Steam.

In addition to the above, Corvette Repair charge over $2500 for work performed at their shop yet failed to provide a detailed receipt indicating where they spent over 25 hours of billable labor.Desired Settlement: Corvette Repair Inc. should be made to pay (refund to me) at least the $1050 cost required to have the additional needed repair work caused by their actions.

Response:

When [redacted] brought his 1973 Corvette to Corvette Repair, Inc. the problems were no horn, the heater and hard starting. We first trouble shooted the horn problem which was bigger than first thought, and there were many other problems including broken and incorrect parts which [redacted] tried to fix himself. With all new customers we automatically place it on a lift for a “safety examination” and do a thorough inspection. We have been in business for over 30 years specializing in antique and classic Corvettes, with many being neglected for years, we always make sure it’s safe and reliable for the road. If there’s anything that’s worn, damaged, not working or leaking we inform the owner about our findings good or bad at no charge. That has been our motto since day one. We made note of our findings and contacted [redacted] gave us a “verbal approval” to do only certain items that needed to be repaired or replaced to keep it within his budget. We kept him informed of the progress on a regular basis. Once the car repairs were completed the technician, service manager and owner double checked the repairs and road tested the vehicle to everyone’s satisfaction, the car ran perfectly. After the Car was cleaned and detailed I called [redacted] went over the invoice and gave him the total amount due, he let us know that his son will be picking up the car. When his son Michael came to pick up the car I personally went over the old parts that were replaced, he told me that they have no use for them, left the premises and drove off. We kept his old parts for any future questions. We received a call from [redacted] and told my service manager the car ran great on the way home and for some unknown reason it is now running rough. We informed him to bring the car back so we can look into it . We did notice instantly an engine miss and running on 7 cylinders we also found a crack spark plug in #5 cylinder, did a compression test in all 8 cylinders and noticed no compression in #5 cylinder, further diagnostic with a bora score we found a bent exhaust valve in the cylinder head and also noticed the valve hit the top of the piston. We contacted [redacted] and told him what we found. I can understand why he would be upset but the car ran perfectly when it was in our care, and after it left with the son driving away, we have no control once it leaves our shop. Someone “over revved” the engine and bent the valve which is the most common cause, there also could be a very good chance the timing chain is also worn. There is nothing we did that caused what happened and cannot take responsibility for someone else’s actions, on how they wish to drive the car after it has left our facility.
