Master bath remodel and laundry room
We engaged Counter Dimensions after a lot of research, as they were well reviewed for the type of remodel we plannedWe needed to update our "90s" master bathroom, take out the shower walls for a more open (glass) concept and update the attached laundry space with additional storage
The designer we worked with (Tracy ***) helped us with the planning to realize our vision from the ideas and pictures we provided, but we were very surprised that she did not provide design ideas beyond the actual construction requirements We were referred to vendors for the lighting, faucets etcbut she did not accompany us to the appointments, so we really felt on our own, and to be honest, somewhat overwhelmed (although it all worked out well!) We never had the impression that she could envision what we were working toward for the whole space, beyond the tile and cabinets It felt more like a Lowes / Home Depot experience than the "HGTV" experience we thought our budget would warrant
The general contractor that was hired to do the work for counter dimensions was called ***, and whilst his team did great work overall on the construction and tile work, the project experience itself was terribleSome of the issues we experienced were:
* The all white cabinetry and tile floors were installed early in the project, but then not covered whilst the rest of the work was done Obviously, they then got very dirty and scuffed (of course we understood it was a construction environment, but this was symptomatic of their apparent lack of attention to care or detail) It took us days after they left to get them clean
* There were two water leaks behind tile in shower, after the new plumbing was put inLuckily they were able reach the pipes through a garage wall, but we had to insist the designer brought in a professional plumber, as each time we reported it to them we were met with skepticism!
* The shower floor was initially so badly installed that it had to be completely dug out and redone We had pointed out the problems days before, and were reassured by the contractor, and the designer, that once the tile was grouted "it would be fine", even though it was obviously not going to be
* Our Brizo fixtures were taken out of their boxes and left mixed in with the tools and construction, so several were so damaged they had to be replaced Additionally, we really got the feeling the Team had not worked with these type of high end fixtures (one piece was installed upside down, twice! and they all had issues which required the plumber to come back and resolve)
* The brand new washer and dryer got badly damaged being moved back and forth from the laundry room (The Counter Dimensions Owner did replace them without question)
* One of the key changes we wanted was to remove the wallpaper (the space was fully wallpapered) The contractor insisted that they would have to paint over it, as it could not be removed "without damaging the walls" (even though this was a line item in the contract) They tried three times to paint and fix the peeling paper, with the designer reassuring us each time, until we demanded that the Owner come and look at it She immediately agreed it was appalling and instructed them to remove it It only took them a day and actually looked great when it was done!
* The French doors took nine weeks to arrive, and the contractors had already started another project, so the Team had to rush installing them They were installed well, but were very stiff to open and close (they apparently did not have time to adjust them as they had to leave before the paint was dry!) It took us a full day of adjusting and planning to make them fit properly
Given the scope of the project we had moved everything out of the master bedroom, so there would be space for the Team to stage and work We expected to be out for the estimated three weeks ("maybe four"), but it eventually took a very frustrating ten weeks In the end we just paid the invoice and completed the punch list ourselves (with our own plumber), as it was getting unproductive trying to get the designer to act on the remaining issues
Whilst our project was very frustrating, we did end up with the bath remodel we wantedIt was just not the experience we had expected from Counter Dimensions
