Failure to complete job and the work that was completed was poorly doneI'm writing this letter regarding an on going issue that I have experienced with Country Boy Construction (CBC) in Raleigh, NC. The issue involves failure to complete a job (replacing of exterior siding and molding along with adequate painting of material repaired ). I hired CBC in May 2013; [redacted] the owner/head of operations predicted a completion date of approximately 5-10 days. Due to unforeseen weather conditions, such as rain, the project was delayed periodically over a 2 month period which was understandable. In August I began contacting [redacted] more frequently and questioning why work wasn't being performed when the weather was optimum? The home owners association (HOA) contacted me regarding a completion date and codes that were in direct violation. I expressed my concerns to [redacted] and received multiple excuses for CBC's delay and I was assured the job would be completed soon. I was contacted  August 26, 2013 by [redacted] stating the job had been completed. I was out of town till the following month and paid the bill in full with the understanding that I would be back in a few weeks to as the quality of work. [redacted] verbally agreed and assured it would be to my satisfaction. I experienced just the opposite and contacted [redacted] immediately and expressed my concerns of thinly applied paint and failure to replace all the wood that was discussed in the quote. I was told by [redacted] that they would be back in a few weeks to correct the work.  I contacted [redacted] five weeks later regarding the corrections since I had not heard or seen the contractor. It was from this point that I began having my calls avoided and getting the run around from CBC.  The next week we had a storm that resulted in multiple pieces of siding falling off exposing the interior layers of the house. I called [redacted] and expressed my concern and that I would hire someone to come fix the emergent situation at hand, as well as the other issues that they had failed to complete. [redacted] did come out and put the new pieces of siding up and stated he would come back in 1-2 weeks to finish the other issues that weren't finished. I contacted [redacted] multiple times after this time extension and continued to get excuses why he can't get out there to complete the job. On March 11, 2014 I contacted [redacted] and said I was done with the games and he had till the end of the week of March 16, 2013 to finish the job or I was contacting an attorney. He texted me "okay" but never showed up and the weather was optimal to complete the task.Desired SettlementSatisfactory work completed in a timely manor or compensation to hire another contractorBusiness Response /[redacted]/I completed the project to the quote I gave [redacted]. We applied paint as per quote and replaced siding as per quote. We arrived and replaced siding that came off after a tornado came through the area. I agreed to come and replace anything that we may have not completed. We had completed everything on our quote. I was willing to repair some facia boards to satisfy Mr [redacted]. Things such as this that exceed our written quote are my call . I am still willing to replace that facia but I refuse to send my guys in inclement weather to complete any task. We do not have the luxury of an office climate.Consumer Response /[redacted]/As you can see I continue to receive excuses as to why he hasn't completed this job that was started almost a year ago. I have given him more than enough time to complete this work and weather isn't the issue for his lack of professionalism. If that were the case every contractor in Raleigh would be out of buisness! Question is are you or are you not going to finish this job..I will get someone who will at your expense..respone required immediately!

Complaint[redacted] (Country Boy Builder) Charged me for more than our contract was written for.On 3/14/14 [redacted] (Country Boy Builder) and I signed a contract for the construction of a 16'x 20' building with a 8' lean to on one side. The contract stated that I give [redacted] 4000.00$ for materials prior to starting the build, 2733.00$ after the concrete slab was complete, and 2000.00$ after completion of the job for a total of 8733.00$. The contract also had the working hours were to be Monday through Friday 8 am-4 pm. [redacted] stated he would start on Monday 3/17/14. Work did not start, I called [redacted] on Tuesday 3/18/14 to see what the holdup was and he stated that the contractor that was going to do the back fill and grading had mechanical issues with his equipment and he would be there tomorrow. On Wednesday [redacted] starts the grading process that [redacted] and I had discussed. After a couple of days of [redacted] working it was clear that he did not understand what grading was needed for the slab. [redacted] had dug a hole and spread the dirt from the hole to level the lot for the building, this caused the whole grade of the building to be lower than the grade was originally. I then called [redacted] and explained what was going on and he came out to take a look and stated he would come out with [redacted] on Saturday and get the lot graded and that I would not be charged any extra for the unnecessary work that had to be performed.(working on Saturday's is not in the contract). Work was performed on Saturday but still was not to [redacted]'s standards, when [redacted] was working with his equipment he run into a playhouse and cracked the 4x4 corner post and broke the corner trim. [redacted] seemed to be upset with [redacted] I told [redacted] that I did not want [redacted] to perform any more work on my property. [redacted] came out with a couple of guys and had them finish the grade by hand. It rained some more and [redacted] said he was going to get the permits ready while it was raining so we could get the inspections complete once the lot dried out. [redacted] called me and stated that when he submitted the application for the building he put it in my name and that it needed to be in my wife's name because she was the owner of the property. This was going to take 5-10 extra days. This was a perfect week to get some work done and no work was performed due to [redacted] not having the permits ready. After the ground dried [redacted] and his sons came out and dug the footings, framed the pad out, and had some stone brought in. At this point we were ready for inspections. After the area was prepped for concrete we got some more rain. I tried contacting [redacted] and could not get a response from him by e-mail, text, or phone. So I go to the inspectors office in downtown Raleigh and find out [redacted] had not even purchased the permits yet. I requested [redacted] sum up the amount of our 4000.00 dollars we would be receiving and he sent me a itemized spreadsheet with a total amount spent of 4432.00. There is no way this amount of money has been spent on my job. I have not been able to get in touch with [redacted] in any way. I suppose we can talk through Revdex.com.Desired SettlementThe contract states... Project Includes: Grade and bench to accommodate a 16'x20' concrete slab, Pour slab and footings, 10' walls, Hard plank siding, 32" 6 panel entry door,9'x8' garage door, Shingles to match house, and all of the permits. We agree to build the above structure to NC building codes on the site owned by [redacted]. We shall pull all necessary permits and supply all materials and labor and equipment to complete the project. Any additional changes requires acceptance by [redacted] and [redacted]. The changes must be in writing and have signatures from each principle. Hours of work are from 8am-4pm. Total cost of grading = 800.00, Permits = 350.00, and Labor was 3000.00. If I give [redacted] all of the money for the original estimate, 163.00 for the permits( that he didn't pay for) and 25% of the labor and the cost of the trusses that he purchased would total 2538.00. 2538 from 4000 is 1462. This is the amount I am requesting I get back from [redacted].I have given [redacted] (Country Boy Builders) 4000.00$ and all I got was about 3 loads of fill dirt, some stone and trusses, and a lot of aggravation, lies and excuses.Business Response /[redacted] and I had a good relationship prior to this project. If anything would go wrong it did. I took the project with all intentions of completing as I have over the last 30 years but problems grew. First all the information I had on the property was incorrect. The owners name to the previous building removed from the site being permitted as it was shown on the county maps. This just delayed the project. We also had an issue with the benching of the site. I had one of my contractors come in and grade the site to work it level and brought in additional soil he over spread it. I brought in more. The owner made references to the fact that it needs to come up more, so I ended up bringing in 40 yards which was more than I estimated. I did not get that documented so [redacted] ( the Home owners husband) says it never happened. The dirt is there. Than he was getting impatient due to the fact that pouring footings on disturb soil would not meet or pass code as I stated many times during the process. We tamped and compacted all the while the rain interfered with our efforts. We tried to cover the site to no avail as the site was at the bottom of a down hill drive that was 150 feet long at least. I was to meet one of the county inspectors out there as sometimes they will do a courtesy site visit. My inspector did not show but even if he would have I knew he would recommend waiting for the footings to dry out. [redacted] called the county who had stated that I had made no efforts to obtain the permits but was unaware of the fact that that is how I found out he was not listed as the owner. Once that information was corrected then to find out that the previous building had not been permitted and that I would need to involve Environmental to inspect the lot which would or could take up to 10 days. I have had it take longer due to the fact that septic repairs and swimming pools took precedence and new work went to the back of the list. Then I received a correspondence stating for me and my guys not to proceed with the project. I stated my response but Mr. [redacted] was adamant and we pulled of the project. Now Mr. [redacted] would like a refund and he and I are not in agreement with the amount. Where the contract states a material deposit we also are entitled to our labor. We were already in the red on the project with all intention to proceed. It was Mr. [redacted] who cancelled progress and any opportunity we had to create our gain back. The site has been unmanaged since then and he still holds us responsible for the condition of the site. Since we withdrew from the project as directed by the Owners Husband I have taken ill and have not been able to function as the Revdex.com knows as I have notified them months ago that I will not be continuing their service as I am forced to retire from this type of occupation.I am sorry that Mr. [redacted] and I have not come to a agreement as we both have a different prospective on this.
